Sanity in NC: ‘Choose Life’ license plates ruled unconstitutional

By: Tuesday December 11, 2012 10:56 am

Before we begin to celebrate, note that in 29 states, these state-sponsored “Choose Life” plates are actually available. But not in North Carolina — only after the ACLU sued to halt the launch of the plates in the state after it was approved in the 2010-2011 legislative session. The plate was permanently blocked because the state failed to offer a pro-choice alternative plate to drivers

The President goes on Leno and says: ‘Rape is rape. It is a crime.’

By: Thursday October 25, 2012 7:03 am

A simple statement. And it’s tragic that in a presidential race in 2012 any candidate has to state the obvious. But the right of a woman to make medical decisions of the most personal and private nature is on the table because of the insistent qualifications of rape by the GOP led by Mitt Romney.. [...]

Rep. Joe Walsh continues the idiocy of anti-choice ‘new science’ and reproductive freedom

By: Friday October 19, 2012 11:32 am

It’s bad enough that we had the spectacle of states passing laws getting into the doctor-patient relationship by probing women’s ladyparts to check on the status of fetuses to deter a woman’s legal right to an abortion. Now the the “pro-life” crowd has realized that bible-beating is not the way to convince the mighty middle that [...]

Paul Ryan to American women: All Your Ladyparts Are Belong To Us.

By: Friday October 12, 2012 12:06 am

There is plenty of post-veep debate around the Web to digest, but what stood out for me was the incontrovertible evidence that a Romney/Ryan administration is hell-bent on womb control, despite desperate maneuvers by Mittens to play all sides on an issue where there is precious little middle ground. I’m glad that Paul Ryan made it [...]

Rev. Irene Monroe: Nothing new in GOP’s anti-woman, anti-gay platform

By: Friday August 24, 2012 7:00 am

The GOP’s anti-abortion platform hasn’t changed—it is identical to that of its 2008 platform, allowing abortions only in cases of rape and incest. The GOP’s anti-gay platform also hasn’t changed—it is identical to that of its 2008 platform, allowing marriage only between a man and a woman. The Grand Old Party’s future, which includes a [...]

Leah McElrath: Let’s Be Honest: Akin’s Not Alone in His Ignorance

By: Wednesday August 22, 2012 3:10 pm

I’m so glad Leah McElrath was enthusiastic about cross-posting her piece on Huff Po here on the Blend because it hits so many spot-on points about the Akin dustup that weren’t seeing the light of day. The fact is, too many Americans of the male persuasion have no clue about the female body, and it [...]

Wisconsin state senator pushes bill classifying single parenthood as child abuse

By: Sunday July 8, 2012 8:11 am

I’m so sick of rule of the wingnuts. In legislatures around the country, low-life teabaggers, bigots, know-nothings, and deeply insecure individuals managed to get elected. Now they are empowered to be full-out womb controllers, to attack the rights of low-wealth residents to vote, to rile up fear of black and brown people…the list goes on [...]

Colorado House passes ‘First Degree Homicide of the Unborn Child’ bill

By: Sunday March 18, 2012 9:00 pm

The womb-controlling fixation continues. While the state Senate may kill this atrocity, njcronk at DKos points out, it’s just the latest in the unending effort by the uterine control police, a.k.a Teabagger legislators – 135 bills attacking reproductive freedom have passed nationwide. Here’s the lunacy of Colorado’s HB-1130, as described by State Rep Daniel Kagan [...]

The anti-sex (for women) brigade is woefully deficient in critical thinking skills

By: Saturday March 3, 2012 8:46 am

Exactly how many times can a woman have sex using birth control to prevent pregnancy before she’s a “slut”? I really would like to know after reading this latest defense by Dana Loesch of Rush Limbaugh’s “slut shaming” of 30 year-old woman Sandra Fluke. Fluke testified before Congress that 1) she chooses to use birth control, 2) [...]

DENIED: Wife says ‘no nookie’ to VA Delegate over transvaginal ultrasound bill

By: Friday February 24, 2012 6:41 pm

Ho, ho, ho — now that’s activism, friends. Virginia Delegate Dave Albo (R-42) describes how his wife denied sex with him after the vaginal ultrasound bill was discussed on The Rachel Maddow Show. (Huff Po): Albo’s remarks — which he delivered with laughter — were aimed in particular at that TV-talking colleague, Del. David Englin (D-Alexandria), [...]
