The Role of Clergy as Agents of the State

This video shows, not only how each of our freedoms are under attack and are threatened, but how segments of the organized Church are more than willing to be used to lead the way (Citing the Bible, of course!) in removing each of our freedoms, and justifying that removal in the name of God.

So, as I’ve so often written, if we don’t fight for the freedoms and full and equal civil rights for LGBT people, we are shooting ourselves in the heart, as the rights and freedoms we have taken for granted can be erased by the stroke of a pen with the all too willing help of clergy who will justify that erasure as being in “God’s will.”

Just as all too many clergy have “justified” the prohibition of access to full and equal civil rights for LGBT people, many are more than willing to “justify” the removal of all of our civil rights, and condition the masses to accept the suspension or removal of those rights, as the agents of the State that they really are, all the while sanctimoniously telling us that they are being Godly in so doing.

Please read this post in conjunction with the post I did earlier today, in order to see how the rapid move to fascism in our country is part and parcel of much of the organized Church being party to setting the tone for, justification of, and facilitation of, hate against “the other,” as most recently seen in its demonization of LGBT people, from which far too many clergy and politicians handsomely profit psychologically and/or materially.

NOTE FROM PAM: A WingNutDaily article outlines the government official plan to use clergy in times of an emergency to quell dissent. Can you imagine some of the kooks in the pulpit we talk about here tossing their weight during a state of emergency? Of course you can.

Sandy Davis, director of the Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said there are several advantages, but primarily, “these clergy would already be known in the neighborhoods in which they’re helping to diffuse that situation.”

So government orders to abandon homes, turn over guns, leave livestock behind, or whatever would come to the minds of various officials during an “emergency,” would be easier for people to accept, the report indicated.

The report said one of the biggest tools the clergy members would use would be the Bible itself, specifically Romans 13, where Tuberville said the Bible states “the government’s established by the Lord, you know. And, that’s what we believe in the Christian faith. That’s what’s stated in the Scripture.”

Civil rights advocates have raised questions about the idea of using clergy in such a fashion, noting the balance clergy would have to maintain when asked to do what the government wants under color of their status as a religious leader.

A blogger for the Christian education site, Chalcedon noted that the training has been going on in secret for over a year already.

“The clergy are being advised to use Romans 13 to encourage parishioners to submit to the sudden and massive expansion of government control that takes place during martial law,” the writer said.
