Garth Kant of World Net Daily posted an article yesterday about a current bacterial meningitis outbreak in the gay community in Los Angeles.  The title, “Another killer disease striking homosexuals”, plays off of the anti-gay industry’s claim that gays are diseased cretins deserving blame rather than compassion.

Anti-gay activist Scott Lively quickly promoted the article on his website with a Bible quote. Mr. Lively appears to be stating the opinion that when gays get sick and die, they deserve it.

Another killer disease striking homosexuals

Romans 1:27 “and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”

If the gay men currently sickened by or dying from bacterial meningitis are somehow getting their due, as these men seem to be implying, I wonder if Mr. Kant and Mr. Lively are willing to say the same for all 1,500 Americans who contract the disease annually, including the 150 who die from it?

“Adolescents and young adults have an increased incidence of meningococcal disease compared to the general population, accounting for nearly 15 percent of all U.S. cases annually,” the National Meningitis Association tells us.

“Infants are at higher risk for bacterial meningitis than people in other age groups,” the Centers for Disease Control reports.

All human beings are prone to disease.  Only bias can lead to the conclusion that the gay casualties alone are “receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”
