The Rhode Island House passed the marriage bill Thursday night by a huge margin: 51 to 19. Among those voting for the bill was House GOP Chair Brian C. Newberry (R-North Smithfield).
The bill now moves to the Rhode Island state Senate. Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed (D-Newport) is an opponent of marriage equality but has promised that the bill will receive a vote in the Senate Committee on Judiciary.

paiva-weed. it’s a shame that one woman may be able to scuttle the hopes and dreams of so many. she’s the chris christie of rhode island.
Waiting to see how much pressure NOM can muster to scuttle this….
Is there a chance it’ll clear the Senate committee and get to the floor, though?
