Had to mention this choice moment during the inauguration…

And, better yet, the First Lady’s reaction to House Speaker John Boehner.
I am all for throwing shade at nasty people, and Michelle Obama does it with grace and class here. This piece of gold is courtesy of Tumblr blogger Mattyrab.
Now, some might say that Mrs. Obama could have stopped short of her obvious disdain for Boehner, but, on the other side of that, he could have shown some respect for her husband, which, as far as I can see, he has never done. He certainly didn’t today, as anyone who watch the inaugural events knows. Now that President Obama is sworn in, signed, sealed, and delivered for a second term, I think she deserves to be able to relax a bit more and show what she really thinks. Further, it isn’t like everyone doesn’t already know how she likely feels about the man anyway.

I’m sorry, but what makes the First Lady rolling her eyes at the Speaker of the House on camera during an Inauguration lunch classy and full of grace?
If Laura Bush had done something similar to Harry Reid during the 2004 Inauguration luncheon, would the reaction of Democrats have been to praise Laura?
I don’t believe in double standards.
If Harry Reid had behaved toward Bush the way Boehner has behaved toward Obama, Laura Bush might have had some justification.
Someday you’ll learn the difference between apples and oranges.
I think the perplexed look on Cantor’s face was his disbelief that Richard Blanco was gay. It was as though he has some preconceived notion of what a gay man looks like, and Blanco didn’t fit that notion.
I think it’s much more likely that Cantor just doesn’t get poetry — besides, Blanco’s work doesn’t rhyme.
Eric “Creep Vibe” Cantor and Paul “Zombie-Eyed Granny-Starver” Ryan are running neck-and-neck for the coveted prize of being the sleaziest dirtbag politicians in DeeCee. As for Boner? No wonder there’s an orange paint shortage in the country.
The Tea Party hacks that Obama has to put up with, and by extension Michelle, make another case for calling the b.s. on fair and balanced or the false equivalency of the nat’l media out, loud and proud. There is simply no left like the Tea Party in Congress or in the country. The right has the Aryan Nations, the Secessionists, the John Birch crowd, etc. Gun nuts and wachos shouldn’t be let off the hook by serious public officials. Boehner and Cantor represent the worst of America. Michelle’s disdain is real and a nice counterweight to her husband’s bipartisan baloney, methinks.
I’m afraid there’s an awful lot of projecting going on about this. Obama and Boehner are obviously in a rather friendly-looking conversation and Michelle is just a side show to it and — if I may project a little — O seems perfectly at ease with whatever the joke is.
Are we supposed to dispense with all the insider reporting that O and B really like each other? (and like Michelle didn’t have a say in who she would sit next to, protocol notwithstanding). And are we supposed to just forget, now that O is, for the rhetorical moment, so down with teh gays, that these guys are basically on the same side of the “f–k the 1%”
OK, I’ll wait a few days for all the ruh roh Obama-is-really-a-progressive trapped in a Wall Street suit gushing to die down. Then we can remember all the torture perps walking free, the finanacial perps walking around free, the targeted assassinations and ‘collateral damage, the whistleblower prosecutions, the chained CPI ruse, etc etc.
I can’t imagine Michelle Obama acting badly; I’m going to assume that Boehner made a dumb joke. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
Unfortunately, she isn’t pres.
Well, they weren’t feasting on peanuts and cheese whiz, as others invited to the ball did, his rank-and-file supporters.
Michelle’s response seemed quite restrained and civil. Also, it is nice to see a first lady who actually appears human in public, rather than as a tranked out zombie with a fake smile stitched on her face.
Also, she is probably three times smarter than Boner and is just making a restrained, but human response to whatever inane, condescending BS he was flinging at her husband.
“Unfortunately, she isn’t pres.”
Pray tell why? Do we have reason to believe she isn’t as big a fraud as the O man? And if she isn’t she just stuffs it all to stand by her man?
Sorry, but all this gushing (or is it gossip) over stinking pols really bites. I know, I’m probably just envious.

EDIT upthread at #7. What I meant/i> to say was “And are we supposed to just forget, now that O is, for the rhetorical moment, so down with teh gays, that these guys are basically on the same side of the “f–k the 99%”. 99% not 1% !!!
I agree, this looks like boehner told a sort of funny joke that Obama enjoyed, and judging from Michelle’s reaction, that’s usually when it’s a pun
Well, as JTJT pointed out, she isn’t a zombie.
We just don’t know much about her; at least, I don’t.
” Boehner and Cantor represent the worst of America”
Obstructionist! No different from the obstruction manifest by slaveowner?
A classy and gracious person also doesn’t put her elbows on the table or wave her food around on her fork.
Well said. I totally agree.
“Did you hear?! Michelle gave Boehner a dirty look! Couldn’t you just die?!!”
“Oh, I know! but what did you think of her bangs? Tell the truth now!”
“Sleaziest dirtbag in D.C.”?????? Indeed. Very close race. OTOH, let’s not forget Mitch McConnell, ol turtle face himself. Perhaps, to be fair, we should have two winners, one in the house ansd one in the seante. In my 61 years nobody comes close to these three exzcept Newt Gingrich.
Betcha we find out a LOT when she writes her book. Which she will.
You’ll find out how wealthy she is before writing the book, so then she can write another one telling you how much more wealthy she became as a result of the last one….If she wants to hang with Jay Zee and Beyonce, she will need the Benjamins….
Unless you know the real context of this. . . total fail. She may well have been agreeing with something he said. Not necessarily disdain at all. These guys play golf together.
Do we have reason to believe she isn’t as big a fraud as the O man? And if she isn’t she just stuffs it all to stand by her man?
Jesus, what is your problem?
I did catch some of the inauguration’s aftermath, at least, on TV (it was hard to avoid). In particular there was a parade, or mostly the Obamas watching a parade. Apart from the fact that the CiC is a gum-chewer I observe that Malia did not follow certain advice to cover her forehead with hair. She looked fine, at least to me.
honesty, and a fair dose of cynicism
I presume you were addressing me, not Jesus
Agree… I don’t see an eyeroll there. I see her eating her lunch and alternating between eye contact with Boehner and watching the remainder of the ceremony.
Much ado about nothing, methinks.
I’m with you all the way; I just loved that.
I don’t know what the hell you people are watching/smoking but Barack is talking to Boehner behind Michelle. She is reacting to Barack, not to Boehner.
You are creating your desired narrative out of whole cloth.
