The clip above is the first time I have ever seen an interview with the National Organization for Marriage chairman John Eastman.
He was on Fox News today criticizing the National Cathedral because of its decision to offer services to gay couples. To me, the points he makes are irrelevant because they emphasize his hypocrisy as well as that of NOM.
We have heard ad naseum from NOM about how marriage equality would interfere with the “religious liberty” of churches and people with faiths which tell them that homosexuality is a sin.
In an interview last year, Eastman identified himself as a Catholic. The National Cathedral is from a different faith, i.e. the Episcopal Church.
So why is Eastman and NOM meddling into the affairs of those who practice a different religion which chooses to welcome gay couples with open arms?
That’s a question which should have been asked during the interview and needs to be asked of Eastman in the future.
Does NOM really believe in the concept of “religious liberty,” or does the group want to dictate its beliefs to those of other faiths in regards to marriage equality?

Silly question — NOM’s goal has always been to market Roman Catholic doctrine under a veneer of civilization — although now that Brian Brown is the president, the veneer is slipping.
He obviously doesn’t understand how the Anglican church works. There is no Anglican Vatican telling all local churches exactly what to do. Anglican sub groups have a large degree of autonomy.
NOM is simply following the lead of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. As I wrote last Feb, with regard to ACA and its provisions on contraception coverage:
The argument that I don’t think anyone has used on them is simply that employer-provided health insurance is compensation. What the bishops seem to be doing is trying to establish the idea that they can dictate how their employees spend their wages.
I’d love to see Cardinal George’s reaction if someone hit him with that one in a news conference.
The head NOMzi Joan Eastman would deserve to have a toilet plunger suctioned over his mouth and then pushed up and down until all of the gay-bashing bigot shit had been flushed out of him. How hilarious that he says that the National Cathedral’s decision shows that there’s no need for a “one size fits all legal decision” on marriage equality and that it can be left up to individual states, after HIS NOMzi group proposed a “one size fits all” constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage throughout the country! His hypocrisy on that same issue is evident where he talks about people who are not strict originalists with the federal Constitution. The original Constitution did not ban same-sex marriage.
