Man, scanning headlines on the weekend can result in pulling up some cray-cray stuff. It’s hard to believe that the fossilized Religious Right televangelist Pat Robertson is still alive and kicking. It was even more interesting that he was scanning Maxim mag, saw a query from a teen about the distant relationship of his parents, and decided to offer up some sage advice. The question:
“I’m 17 years old and I’ve noticed that there has been a change in my father’s behavior,” he wrote. “He spends too much time at the computer playing a war game. I’ve noticed how alone my mom feels. I just want my father to spend more time with my mom. What should I do? How can I talk to my father? I feel shame for him. Please help.”
Good thing this 17-year-old didn’t personally ask the 700 Club host for advice because he would have received the following in its full misogynist glory (via Alternet’s Laura Gottesdiener):
“The romance is obviously going out of the marriage…You know, it may be your mom isn’t as sweet as you think she is; she may be kind of hard-nosed. And so, you say, it’s my father, he’s not paying attention to mom, but you know mom …” he trails off and offers a spiteful little chuckle.
…He launches into another story: “A woman came to a preacher I know — it’s so funny. She was awful looking. Her hair was all torn up, she was overweight and looked terrible …And she said, ‘Oh, Reverend, what can I do? My husband has started to drink.’ And the preacher looked at her and he said, ‘Madam, if I were married to you, I’d start to drink too.’”
It was also noted that Robertson had no data to back up how women (and attractiveness or lack thereof) are to blame for failed marriages, save his own experience that “comes with 58 years of marriage, so I know what I’m talking about.”

The other bout of right wing lunacy comes from the man who lost his seat in Congress in November and he apparently has no plans to slip into the shadows of private life and media silence. Allen West, conspiracy theorist and owner of spectacular retro fade, has something to say about gun violence — and what he believes is common sense advice…Gun Control Is ‘Your Index Finger‘ (Huff Po):
Former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) said gun control comes down to the finger you pull the trigger with, calling the larger discussion on gun violence part of a “political agenda.”
“This is your gun control, this finger right here — your index finger,” West said in aninterview with Newsmax TV. “Nothing happens with that gun until you put that finger into the trigger well and you pull it. So my concern is that we’re not talking about the real issue, we’re talking about a political agenda.”

Pat the number of men who let themselves go around middle age is much higher than the number of women so if anything I would expect the women to complain.
But tell me Pat for richer for poorer in sickness and in health etc etc where is the get out of marriage ugly clause in the marriage vows?
I assume its there because all of Rush Limbaugh’s wives have used it.
If you want data well women live longer than men physical attractiveness in part relies on physical health.

There are lots of google mentions of Sarah Palin having GOPers who paid money to see her being forced past metal detectors.
I doubt that Allen West has not ever gone to any GOP event where there was not a metal detector looking for guns set up.
Outside the beltway we 99%ers don’t live in a world screened by metal detectors, private security, fenced in communities etc.
Really is hysterical, isn’t it? Makes me think Mr. Pat thinks he is pretty cute and quite a catch. Of course he does…rich white male. Of course, Rush thinks he is pretty cute, also, never mind he’s a racist, probably druggie….There’s a hint of that, so to speak. Yet, he seriously makes most sincere, smart people gag.
Given the number of Tea Baggers who are racist doesn’t Allen worry that someone who had a few drinks won’t recognize him at a Tea Party event?
I bet Allen is terrified that the next time he goes to a tea bagger event someone will yell hey look it’s President Obama.

Given the crazy Pat and Rush keeps saying even if they were good looking they would scare the women away if they were poor.
In my experience as a volunteer at PADS for 3 years Homeless crazy people yelling on street corners do not get the ladies.
All the difference between them and Pat and Rush is a suit.
At a Tea Bagger event where they sell targets with Obama’s face to raise money? Heck I bet he goes to Tea Bagger events wearing a bullet proof vest. If Sarah Palin has to screen for guns at her paid to get in events then imagine how nervous Allen must feel.
I agree as far as looks go Allen loses to Obama. Heck as far as sanity goes it seems the more pro gun rights a GOPer like West is for example the less likely anyone thinks they could pass a sanity test and keep their guns.
Reagan closed down the metal asylums and put the homeless on the street crime went up, gun deaths went up and I suspect that many got suits and started running for congress with the GOP.
West “apparently has no plans to slip into the shadows of private life and media silence.” We certainly should permit West to do so. Let the right spend their resources to amplify this crap. We already know West is sick and crazy.

I think West has hit on a strategy that we all can get behind. You may have a constitutional right to bear arms, but it doesn’t say you’re entitled to an index finger. So you can have as many guns as you like, but we’re gonna need that finger first…..

I don’t know about keeping something long term together, but after losing 100 pounds, becoming a vegetarian, working out every day, buying new clothes, and using plenty of skin care products I’ve had a lot more luck with getting dates. Well, with the nice looking people I’d want to do date anyway.
Recently, during a brief trip to a supermarket, I noticed that 75%+ of those I saw there were morbidly obese. So if you yourself are that way you can take comfort from the fact that there are plenty of others out there in America who are right on your level. I’d imagine that two such individuals would have no reason to complain about each other and so their relationship might be quite enduring.
Wow, I mean, just, wow. Pat Robertson is really, really, really unattractive. If he thinks that marriage and companionship is based on physical attraction only, then I feel very, very sorry for his wife. Again.
