Is it any wonder that the NRA is working overtime to stop any kind of sane conversation about the issue of violence, guns and culture? As if on cue, CNN was reporting on the Vice President’s commission to discuss gun violence in the United States, and the network had to break in with news of yet another act of violence near a school. (Think Progress):
[B]efore Biden could finish his presentation, CNN cut into his remarks to report on another school shooting. This morning, “at least two people were shot at Taft High School” in California at 9:00AM and the shooter has reportedly been taken into custody…A local NBC affiliate reports that a teacher and a student had been injured and are currently receiving treatment in hospital. The student’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
While rest of the nation ponders how we can curb the violence, there’s no evidence that the hardcore advocates are even attempting to look sane at this point. In fact, I think law enforcement needs to look into James Yeager. He’s the owner of a Tennessee company that specializes in weapons and tactical training called Tactical Response. Despite the fact that the President cannot ban assault rifles or close any gun loopholes – that’s the province of Congress, this man has come completely unglued. (Crooks & Liars):
“Vice President [Joe] Biden is asking the president to bypass Congress and use executive privilege, executive order to ban assault rifles and to impose stricter gun control,” Yeager explained in his video message. “Fuck that.”
“I’m telling you that if that happens, it’s going to spark a civil war, and I’ll be glad to fire the first shot. I’m not putting up with it. You shouldn’t put up with it. And I need all you patriots to start thinking about what you’re going to do, load your damn mags, make sure your rifle’s clean, pack a backpack with some food in it and get ready to fight.”
The CEO concluded: “I’m not fucking putting up with this. I’m not letting my country be ruled by a dictator. I’m not letting anybody take my guns! If it goes one inch further, I’m going to start killing people.”
Watch it:

Do us all a favor and go for it. I would be thrilled to see just how long you last against a trained company of National Guard with a few attack helicopters thrown in for good measure. Considering the way local PD’s have been stocking up on military weaponry, I don’t think you could hold off a well trained SWAT team for an hour.
Come on, make my day.
This is very interesting. So this person is calling for an armed response. Is that treason?
Coach Bill, Then of course he will be come a martyr. It will prove that he was right.
This is really a war of ideas. They want to turn it into a shooting way, by conflating straw men actions.
I don’t want a martyr. I want him to be discredited. It might be good to let his customers know what other kind of sick background he has. Maybe he shouldn’t be able to purchase guns legally? Maybe he has a history of violence or is a felon?
He wants to be a test case in blase of glory, but you don’t give him that.
You figure out a way to make him look not like a tough guy, but as the irrational person he is.
So I guess Biden’s pathetic little PR stunt didn’t solve a thing….
He could just disappear.
I think this is the BEST way to handle this guy.
Take him to court and force him to take a psychiatric exam to prove that he’s sane.
My guess is that once the government took him into custody, he would REALLY go off the deep end.
Reads like a Terrorist threat to me.
Call in the Drones.
Can we call the NRA “Al NRA” now?
This nutbag is exactly the reason WHY we need a very strong assault weapons ban. And I hope the police pays him a nice friendly visit over his threats to murder people possibly unknown to him. Wow. These people really are just totally tinfoil batshit ape-upside-down on a rocket ship crazy. Really.
That was good Coach.
Countdown in 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 to the Conservative Conspiracy Kaka that the Taft HS shooting was actually staged by that kenyan dictator usurper.
“Take him to court …”
Have to find something to charge him with first.
Court ordered psych exams are pre-loaded to find the accused “competent to stand trail and aid in his defense”.
They are not intended to uncover actual mental illness.
“…he will be come a martyr.”
Kinda like David Koresh?
And the greedheads at BigGun & BigAmmo rub their greedy paws together greedily & salivate with greed: another shooting?? CHA CHING!!! At a school?? Double CHA-CHING!!!!!!! w00t.
A banner day for the NRA, BigGun & BigAmmo. Lock ‘n load, hombres!
I have always though anybody who wants to be a martyr should be allowed to do so.
Sometimes you just gotta thin the herd.
This guy has government entities take his classes. Paid for by taxpayers. I wonder if we really should be sending out sheriffs and police to this crazy person?
Might be useful to find out. Hitting people in pocketbooks always makes them think. I’m not trying to take away your guns, just the revenue you get from your gun fetish.
I recently saw an essay on the second amendment that detailed how its original purpose was to allow the Federal Government and the several states to raise a militia for the sole purpose of putting down rebellions.
Perhaps a little “Original Intent” is in order.
You know the part of the 2nd Amendment that nobody talks about? Slaves and slave owners. There was a paper put out a while ago that examined how the plantation owners wanted to make sure they could have guns to control their slaves. I’ll try and find the link.
The influence of slaves and slavery permeates much of the constitution, well beyond the 3/5 compromise, notably the US senate.
1787
Yep, a bunch of gun fetishists with really bad cases of paranoia. What could possibly ever go wrong?
The NRA’s extreme position against any and all forms of gun control is like saying laws against rape and child molestation are attempts to outlaw sex and human reproduction.
There can be respectable limitations.
Article 3, section 3 of the US Constitution states:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
More likely, our nutcakes will be guilty of murder in the first degree, or felony murder, perhaps. But if they do it with a certain kind of style, then yes, they could be guilty of treason.
Especially First American rebellions, which were really resistance movements against encroaching Europeans.
Definitely. The British had offered emancipation to slaves in exchange for joining the Crown Forces. Many had taken them up on it, far more than with the Continental Army. When the Brits departed, a lot of these African-Brits were left here, and their emancipations were not recognised. Bad faith lead to a potentially very dangerous situation in the South.
The Republigun Party strikes again.
(Hey, I’m hooked on phonics. “Republigun” sounds a lot better when said out loud. It almost sounds like one’s saying Republican.)
They talk about how easy it would still be for a psychopath to get a gun if guns were regulated, then they rant about needing a gun to combat the imaginary “tyranny” (the democracy that won’t surrender to them) that they fear. If it would be so easy to get a gun illegally, then they shouldn’t worry about getting a gun under such regulations when the “tyranny” approaches. That CEO is not a law-abiding citizen, but a potentially dangerous person with a gun; he has already made a threat to cause mayhem in the community. He should be detained.
Yes. It’s just like saying that, with laws against rape and murder, rapes and murders still occur, therefore we should rescind the laws against rape and murder.
More details on that “Gun trainer”.
From TPM
Seems he ain’t all that.
Also from the comments, it looks like this guy was a contractor that wet his pants. From Time
Assuming this is the same guy.
It’s ironic that the people most paranoid about an authoritarian government are the ones with authoritarian mindsets and that support the most authoritarian political party. However, projection is one of their defining characteristics, so they assume that whenever their side loses an election, the FEMA concentration camps are coming. Obama is such a fascist, though, that it is hard to criticize their paranoia.
It is illegal under the Smith Act (1940) to advocate the violent overthrow of the US government. However, to my knowledge, the only times the US government has taken action against people for sedition (earlier laws were the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Sedition Act of 1918) it was against LEFTISTS, such as socialist Charles Schenck, socialist Eugene Debs, anarchist Benjamin Gitlow, and communist Eugene Dennis (all separate cases taking place from WWI to 1948).
The right-wingers always get a pass, even though they are the most paranoid and are the only ones to go beyond speech to actually forming militias. That’s because they are given cover by the Republican Party. Remember how the Republicans heavily criticized and suppressed an FBI report in 2009 that warned of the threat of domestic terrorism from right-wing extremists?
…and it’s maddening when he and other Dems like him are touted as “liberals”.
I forget the statute, but it’s also against federal law to form paramilitary units.
Agreed! Of course, the socialists get justifiably angry when Obama is called a socialist–and that is the more common misnomer, though Republicans like to conflate “liberal” with “socialist.”
States make laws governing militias. Some states prohibit the formation of militias that are not organized and regulated by the state itself (such as the National Guard), others do not. If such a grassroots paramilitary group is formed and is not advocating the violent overthrow of the federal government, then it is in the clear. Militias traditionally were meant to assist the government in fighting invasions and putting down insurrections.
