‘Out of touch’ doesn’t even begin to describe Mitt Romney. I can’t believe this country is thisclose to electing lying sociopath that is so obvious his handlers do little or nothing to stop the blatant horrors coming out of his mouth. In fact he has to have a team of like-minded people in order to unleash a continual stream of blunders and unmitigated falsehoods. That only makes it worse.
So today Mittens holds his wholly off-the-mark (what’s new) “Sandy Relief” sideshow, collecting groceries at an Ohio campaign event for the Red Cross, which, along with other private charities has been clear that monetary donations to the orgs are the best way to assist those in need by getting relevant resources to victims of natural disasters. (Salon):
It’s impossible not to see that this storm has devastated Mitt Romney’s presidential candidacy. The response to the hurricane has seemed like one long dramatic Obama campaign commercial, a lesson in “We’re all in this together,” while Romney, the man who said he’d dismantle FEMA, flails on the sidelines.
Romney’s “relief” event outside of Dayton, Ohio, was surreal enough to be a campaign parody, with the candidate comparing the federal government’s hurricane relief efforts to the time he and some friends had to clean up a football field strewn with “rubbish and paper products.” It was supposed to be a parable of how Republicans handle disaster – with private charity, not government intervention – as Romney told his audience, “It’s part of the American spirit, the American way, to give to people in need.” The Republican went on to talk about the time some Hurricane Katrina survivors were rerouted from Houston to Cape Cod and the good people of Cape Cod responded by donating food and, yes, television sets.
But who cares — he’s looking for the optics of caring, a quality the guy doesn’t remotely project, and undermines with his own words in public. He’s also having a hard time selling his “dump FEMA” and leave disaster relief to the states policy when one of his supporters, Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, is not only praising the President, but thinks very little of Romney’s stunt.
Romney promised to put the goods on a truck to where they’re needed, “I think New Jersey,” he said.
That was a funny choice. Maybe it had to do with the fact that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has all but endorsed Obama in the last two days, repeatedly praising his “leadership.” He told the crew on “Morning Joe” that “It’s been very good working with the president. He and his administration have been coordinating with us. It’s been wonderful.” He told “Today” that FEMA’s response has been “excellent,” and he’s repeatedly tweeted his thanks to the president.
Reporters would not let Mittens off of the hook about his plans for FEMA.
“Gov are you going to eliminate FEMA?” a print pooler shouted, receiving no response.
Wires reporters asked more questions about FEMA that were ignored.
Romney kept coming over near pool to pick up more water. He ignored these questions:
“Gov are you going to see some storm damage?”
“Gov has [New Jersey Gov.] Chris Christie invited you to come survey storm damage?”
“Gov you’ve been asked 14 times, why are you refusing to answer the question?”
Romney won’t answer because he can’t.

Game Over for the Climate
Me neither. BUT, it’s the very same country that had the wisdom to elect Obama and give him majorities in both the House and Senate.
Re Romney: Just recall the Ann Richards refrain: “He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.” Do not forget, and very little sense.
Maybe Romney guessed the groceries were going to New Jersey because when he thinks of Chris Christie, Mitt thinks of groceries.
he’s a sociopath
LOLOL
I hope that someone can find out what actually gets done with the food collected. Mitt hates the poor so it probably won’t end up at a homeless shelter.
Rafalca.
Can Willard still talk.
Willard does not want to appear on TV talk shows.
Willard does not want to answer reporters questions.
Willard is applying for a job but doesn’t want to answer any questions re what he would do in that job.
I guess I’m the one who has to say it: Props to Christie. He’s a teabagging manatee who usually only cares about those in his income bracket or higher but he’s really stood up this time. Leave it to Doocy and FOX “News” to be talking about photo ops for Rmoney while people are dying.
Wanker.
Yep. It would be like me applying for a job by filling out only the top sheet of an application and refusing to answer the interview questions beyond, “You should give me this job because the other person sucks and ponies”. I think this storm might be the end of the road for him as he’s incapable of making anything about anybody other than himself.
I recommend watersports.
Isn’t that a telling line? Not even any of the fake “concern” that the plastic heads scoop out of a bucket and spread across the media with a trowel. Just “storm-related events”, oh boy! Let’s get some photos of Rmoney looking concerned and while we’re at it, he can show his convention speech again and gather “relief supplies” that the Red Cross et al can’t use and doesn’t want.
Oh wait, he already did that…
Let’s see him do it without federal money.
They have to be “storm-related” but “non-talking” photo-ops — preferably in Ohio.
Chris Christie is angling for a job in O II. Maybe jobs talks are already underway. How about the new Secretary of Business gig?
Just speculatin’.
he just wants to get away from the stench of Mitt
Romney had one good night in Denver presenting his dishonest case and that erased all memory for many Americans of his blunder politicizing the Benghazi attack and the 47% remarks. (It’s not just Romney that suffers from amnesia.) However, there remains six more days for Romney to self-destruct.
Yes, he can! Easily.
Large swaths of the U.S. public prefer their politicians be sociopaths. Someone they can identify with.
“…in order to unleash a continual stream of blunders and unmitigated falsehoods.”
He is telling his people what they want to hear. Truth is irrelevant.
Consider this: Romney doesn’t care what happens in the relief efforts in the Northeast. We aren’t going to vote for him anyway.
On Facebook, they are displaying a picture of Romney loading a truck with supplies. The caption reads something about while Obama sits warm in the White House giving speeches, Romney is out actually doing something about the crisis, the way a real President should.
What a crock…. I am ticked that this disaster is getting politicized by a bunch of pea brains, thinking this would sway a vote or two.
(I think this fits this post about today’s Republicans exploiting disasters for political purposes. “bobbybluetoyou” posted the following reply to Raw Story’s article “Bush’s disgraced FEMA director (Michael Brown) stunned at (President Obama’s) Sandy response, “Why was this so quick?”.
“A COMPARISON OF PREVIOUS HURRICANE RESPONSES:
President Nixon — August 1969 when Cat-5 Hurricane Camille hit roughly the
same area as Katrina, President Nixon had already readied the National Guard and ordered all Gulf rescue vessels and equipment fromTampa and Houston to follow the Hurricane in. There were over 1,000 regular military with two dozen helicopters to assist the Coast Guard and National Guard within hours after the skies cleared.
President Clinton — September 1999, Hurricane Floyd — Cat-3, was bearing
down on the Carolinas and Virginia. President Clinton was in Christchurch, New Zealand – meeting with President Jiang of China. He made the proclamation that only Presidents can make and declared the areas affected by Floyd “Federal Disaster Areas” so the National Guard and Military can begin to mobilize. Then he cut short this meetings overseas and flew home to coordinate the rescue efforts. All one day BEFORE a Cat-3 hit the coast.
President Bush (41) — August 1992 — was in the midst of a campaign for re-election. Yet, he cut off his campaigning the day before and went to Washington where he martialed the largest military operation on US soil in history. He sent in 7,000 National Guard and 22,000 regular military personnel, and all the gear to begin the clean up within hours after Andrew passed through Florida.
George Bush (43) — August 2005 — Cat-5 Hurricane Katrina bears down on New Orleans and the Mississippi gulf. Both states are down nearly 8,000 National Guard troops because they are in Iraq — with most of the rescue gear needed. Bush is on vacation. The day before Katrina makes landfall, Bush rides his bike for two hours. The day Katrina hits, he goes to John McCain’s birthday party.”
My replies to “bobbybluetoyou,” to expand on what really happened during Hurricane Katrina:
“Great post.
One of the little reported stories during Hurricane Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans was the one about the two U.S military helicopter pilots from Pensacola Florida who flew their helicopters into New Orleans to rescue people from rooftops, returning back to their Pensacola base only when they ran low on fuel. They were both reprimanded by Donald Rumsfeld after they go back to base, because Rumsfeld had issued an order that all U.S. search-and-rescue fitted helicopters stand down during Hurricane Katrina.
They’d been on a resupply mission to a base close to NO, heard calls for help over their radio, and responded. A NY Times article several days afterward quoted one of the helicopter pilots as saying that while they were flying westward toward NO, passing over the devastated Mississippi and Alabama coastlines, they saw a flurry of emergency response activity (state and federal) on the ground and in the air of these Republican governor states, but when they passed into Louisiana…NOTHING…in the air or on the ground. Why? Because Louisiana at the time (before Jindal) had a Democratic governor, Kathleen Blanco.
IOW, the entire Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld administration played politics during a disaster. Americans died. American suffered for days. Gov. Blanco was literally on her own. Several days after Katrina, she even had to call fellow governors to ask for help, asking them to send national guard units and equipment (not in Iraq) to assist her and the citizens of her state. Why? Because the Bush/Cheney administration literally withheld federal disaster assistance from Louisiana during that first week.
BTW, “heckofajob” Brownie, the head of FEMA, was side-lined as soon as NO flooded, as top Bush/Cheney officials, following the advice of Karl Rove, did their worst. Read what Brownie said in that Washington Post article again. He tried to get the attention of top Bush/Cheney Republican officials, including GW Bush, but they brushed him off, didn’t return his calls, because they were going after Democratic Governor Blanco and the Democratic Party in Louisiana. Remember the day NO flooded? Remember when Republicans started spreading the vicious lie that Gov. Blanco hadn’t requested federal emergency disaster assistance before Katrina hit, a “rumor” spread by Fox News and Bush/Cheney officials? She had!!! FEMA, days before Katrina hit land, even setup a FEMA command center in Baton Rouge, where Gov. Blanco, state officials and the FEMA disaster coordinator were all stationed the day NO flooded.
And after politicizing the federal disaster response during Katrina, Bush/Cheney Republicans politicized the clean-up afterward, awarding no-bid clean-up contracts to crony Republican companies and individuals, so they could profit off the disaster afterward, just like the Bush/Cheney Republicans tried to profit during the disaster. These type of Republicans aren’t just bad for our government, they’ve crossed over into just being evil. And Mitt Romney wants to complete what they started, dismantling FEMA and turning over disaster response to private for-profit companies and individuals, so they can make a quick buck off the suffering and deaths of people. Christian? Hardly!!!!”
And after “David”‘s response to my reply,
“I’m not standing up for Brownie, but please read my reply to “bobbybluetoyou” above. The day NO flooded, top Bush/Cheney Republicans (Karl Rove, etc) saw an opportunity to politicize the disaster. The two Pensacola search-and-rescue helicopter pilots were eyewitnesses. Brownie (head of FEMA) as well as the FEMA disaster coordinator assigned to the FEMA command center in Baton Rouge days before Katrina hit, were bypassed completely. A smear campaign was launched against Gov. Blanco (D-LA) that she hadn’t officially requested Bush/Cheney administration help before Katrina hit, but the official documents proving she had requested such help about 48 hours before Katrina made landfall were on the White House’s official website. To try to make their flagrant lie stick against Gov. Blanco and other Louisiana Democrats (Mayor Naggin of NO), the Bush/Cheney administration decided to make matters worse in Louisiana and New Orleans by deliberately withholding federal aid from Louisiana and NO, even redirecting aid already in place to Mississippi and Alabama, two states also hit by Katrina but with Republican governors. This is what the two helicopter pilots saw when heading west from Pensacola toward New Orleans!!!”
(Note: the NY Times article was on Sept. 7, 2005. The helicopter pilot interviewed and quoted said he was shocked at what he saw while flying westward across Alabama and Mississippi into Louisiana. Both pilots were reprimanded. I later read that one resigned his commission. I saw very little (to none) news reporting about this angle to the Republicans criminal handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster).
Mitt Romney is a liar, the worst of the worst. Need to know more?
Need to link to Walsh’s article and credit her if you simply recycle her piece. Bad form.
well, chris puts out a pretty good stench of his own. but if you reference specifically the stench of Mitt’s impending failure, I think you are right on target.
Here’s your link: NYT article
No problem, just don’t pay into the pension funds of the first responders, like he already has.
