Early voting in North Carolina runs from October 18 through November 3, so Kate and I jumped at the chance to get it done, driving downtown, first to the Farmer’s Market, where the Durham People’s Alliance had yard signs available. Then we went the short distance to the main early voting station at the Durham History Hub. During early vote, North Carolinians can register and vote at the same time at any early vote site in their county.
Today there is a big festival encouraging folks to early vote — there are even cars shuttling those without transportation to the facility, and there will be a plethora of Durham food trucks out with tasty fare.
Those who aren’t fans of the President probably wouldn’t pick this bumper sticker up…
The Democratic National Committee still considers NC a swing state, focusing on Get Out The Vote, since Barack Obama won only by a sliver here in 2008. The DNC’s and Obama for America’s “Gotta Vote” Bus Tour will finish the North Carolina swing today in Rocky Mount, Raleigh, and finishing up in Durham at 1:30 PM.
The important message here is please VOTE. Regardless of what you think about the top of the ticket, there are essential races downticket in many states for Governor, Lt. Gov, state house races, judicial races and other offices that will profoundly affect your day-to-day quality of life and civil rights.
Some new pix:
Durham Mayor Bill Bell
Academy Award winning actress Octavia Spencer (“The Help”), Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.
State Teacher of the Year Tyronna Hooker.
With State Rep. Larry Hall (dist 29), who is a great advocate for LGBT rights here in NC.
Oh noes! OK, so the Prez wasn’t there to take any questions at the Early Vote Festival downtown, so I just mugged for a pic next to the cardboard cutout (it needs an update with a salt & pepper-haired Barack Obama) when the “Gotta Vote” Bus arrived.

Hopefully you feel as good as you look … no early voting here in CT unless you do absentee ballot … wish we had early voting .. heck we have voter ID.
Yes, the important thing is to vote.
Just recieved my absentee ballot here in Calli and will mail it back on Monday.
Voted last week by absentee ballot. Sent it out the day after I got it.
Yeah I voted for Romney; just so all the fake liberals will suddenly find their liberal conscience again once a Republican is back in office. Looking forward to it.
Mailed my absentee ballot back to Hillsborough Co, FL this past Monday.
I just finished voting my absentee ballot and will mail it to Florida.
I just worry about the chain of custody when it arrives and is opened.
As unhappy as I am about Obama’s sorry performance, he is a shout in the forest far better than the nutcase the republicans are offering!
I just prey that Barak goes up on the mountain and finds some balls and another attorney general, hell maybe Liz Warren could be AG and loan him hers!
Yeah…cause that worked sooooo well in 2010…. Know what I call liberals who vote for Republicans “so all the fake liberals will suddenly find their liberal conscience again once a Republican is back in office”? Conservatives. Save it for somebody with a two digit IQ.
Sorry, duplicate comment.
Excellent report, but I am also gonna take this as an addition in the all-too-rare-now category of Fashion Update post, and comment: Lookin’ good, lady!
… wondering why you other 48 states don’t get with the Great Northwest Program and emulate Washington and Oregon with 100% vote-by-mail. What’s the problem?
After voting straight Democratic tickets from 2004 to 2008, I actually did do in 2010 what I am going to do in 2012. And I have absolutely no regrets. Because I have too much self respect to ever support anyone who betrays me.
I know! I won’t mail by ballot in until Fri. 2 Nov – that way the fucking sell outs will keep phone banking me to vote!
I have 2 state legislators to vote for who are good, and maybe Kathleen Drew for Secretary of State and Attorney General Fergeson won’t be MORE diaper pissing “moderate” or liberal cowards, unable to (politically) knee cap the Joe Liebermans, Rahm Emmanuals, Arne Duncans and Rodney Toms stinking up the Democratic Party –
WHY is inslee being attacked with the latest version of tax and spend liberal? WHY can’t the wishy-warshy Dems of WA. silence such bullshit?
Ding ding ding !! cuz if they’re not lying sell outs, they’re fucking incompetents, or, a mix of each.
WHY is The Dim Message “Lessor Of Two Evil” ?? Cuz after AHIP-Care and after AIG-Care, after Secret State – Care, most people are fed up with their incompetence and their fucking lies to keep their jobs?
Good riddance to bad trash and I ain’t voting ‘trash’ just cuz fascists … yawn … are running!
Keep calling Jay & Jim & Mary L. & Maria to tell me to vote vote vote, or a radical fascist will beat your sell out ass!! The Democratic Party is fucked until all of your are unemployed, and, by the way – I’ve voted for all you for decades!
I’m PROUD to ditch your asses.
rmm.
She’s just Is so cute, isn’t she? Sometimes I go click on her blog to to see a Genuine Smile. TMI?
good luck. I’ve despised the fascists since … I was 8 in ’68? I can’t check off their names …
My wife voted for me for Governor … maybe I’ll vote for me!? While, YAWN, McKenna is a lying fascist toady, I’m done with political incompetents, sell outs, and those who are a mix.
rmm.
By all means, vote for whomever you please. I’m not faulting you for that. I just would appreciate the respect for you to not piss down my back and tell me it’s raining. You can justify it in your own mind all you want but again, please save your rationale for somebody who will believe it.
Or, you could act in kind, reciprocate, and vote for her this time.
Thank you, Pam.
I just have this need to go down to the park in my neighborhood on election day. I stand in a shortish line because I arrive in the morning and talk to people in my community. It’s kind of a tradition for me. And, then sometime in the afternoon I return to the polling park with goodies. You know, food.
But, I also think that those who vote early, my daughter and mother included, vote their conscious and the way they want.
Pam!

Thanks, Teddy. It was a long day for me, given my health woes. I walked quite a bit downtown and took all of those pix in the beautiful weather. Now I’m slathered in Icy Hot after taking a shower and in my jammies. It’s 6PM. Sad, isn’t it? But it was a fun day.
More fashion to come…
Yes, I have. Voter #229 first day, South Regional Library, Lowes Grove. According to reports turnout is still going strong.
Yes… for Jill Stein and other progressives… in FLORIDA.
I might vote if I lived in a swing state.
Tomorrow Oct 22 starts “Early Voting” for me in Illinois, and I can hardly wait. President Obama and Dick Durbin here I come…)))
