You may remember her standing on the Washington state House floor in February during debate on the freedom to marry bill, speaking in reference to her lesbian daughter: “some day, by God, I wanna throw a wedding for that kid.”
Today this amazing pro-equality ally, advocate and Republican Washington state Representative is featured in the Approve Referendum 74 TV ad “Freedom” by Washington United for Marriage.
I was married for 23 years to the love of my life. And he died 6 years ago. And I miss him every day.
I think to myself, how could I deny any couple, whether they’re gay or straight, that incredible bond of marriage?
Allowing marriage for same-sex couples is a question of fundamental fairness.
We’re all God’s children. Who am I to pass judgment on others?
As a Republican, I don’t believe that government should anyone who they can or cannot marry.
Rep. Walsh co-sponsored the Domestic Partnership Expansion Bill of 2009. For that she was criticized by some in her party and even officially censured by the Franklin County Republicans. Then she proceeded to win reelection by a landslide (78% to 22%) against her anti-gay Republican challenger.
