Pat Robertson echoes the beliefs of supporters of the current war on the reproductive freedom — and quite frankly, any autonomy at this point — by many on the GOP fringe, which is currently in control of the party.
Yeah, the 700 Club impresario has been barely tethered to reality over the years — with his insensitive, heartless, and apocalyptic rhetoric – but in this clip he has no problem saying that one Christian Broadcasting Network viewer is basically SOL if he wants to control his wife in the appropriate fashion unless he can move to Saudi Arabia and beat her @ss into submission. People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch:
[T]oday on the 700 Club’s “Bring It On” segment where viewers ask Robertson questions, one man wondered how he should go about repairing his marriage with a wife who “insults” him and once tried to attack him.
“Well, you could become a Muslim and you could beat her,” Robertson responded. “This man’s got to stand up to her and he can’t let her get away with this stuff,” Robertson continued, “I don’t think we condone wife-beating these days but something has got to be done.”
He later said the woman is a “rebellious child” and pondered if she has psychological problems.
How is what this fool is saying different than anything uttered by Paul Ryan, Todd Akin or Rush Limbaugh recently?

Pat Robertson never fails to find the most disgusting things to say about nearly everything. People who send him money should be ashamed of themselves.
“How is what this fool is saying different than anything uttered by Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, or Rush Limbaugh recently?”
It obviously isn’t, the difference is, Rev. Pat knows the proper grip when handling snakes.
Robertson has always been a disgusting con artist & outright flim-flam artist charlatan, but that has only enhanced, not diminished, his credibility with his devoted “flock.”
Get a picture of Mitt standing next to Pat
Not one word of what the guy might have done to deserve it? Sorry Pat parents and police either ask both kids or adults why they were fighting or they just say I don’t care why just stop fighting.
Pat is simply reflecting the mindset of the Republican Party, Islam and Christian Religions.
How any woman can subject herself to Christian/Catholic/Moslem religion and/or be a Republican is a mystery.
Some say that women do it to please men.
Women are beneath men as stated clearly in the Religious Texts.
At a recent Catholic wedding in Canada, the couple used the familiar wedding scriptures:
A woman must be subservient to the man, etc.
The priest, being more liberal than normal, said that he thought it unusual for the couple to use those verses (Someone had read a great deal of the text as part of the ceremony). He remarked:
“I am surprised that you chose those verses. Women often take issue with the subservient role as outlined, etc.
But I want to point out that the man has the most arduous responsibility in the marriage – He must love his wife as Jesus loved the Church.
That means that, if called upon to do so, he must lay down his life for his wife.
Probably a good thing. Would you assume a wife-beating victim deserved it?
I think Pat Robertson would be more effective wearing clown makeup.
Rebellious child is a Biblical dog whistle, that the man would be justified in killing his wife.
What about the part where he doesn’t reminisce about his good old days but indicates the guy could become a Muslim and beat her today?
see my response @3.
You mean we gotta stop…. O never mind.
It’s in the good book.
Eph.5:22-24 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.”
Pat “the Gargoyle” Robertson looks like he escaped from the walls of some medieval church. His brain certainly has that’s for sure.
Preceding verse:
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Following verse:
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
Sounds better in context.
There were [are?] indigenous Alaskan tribes [Inuit?] that put their old people on an ice floe and sent it out to sea.
Just a thought.
Yes, but not if you recall the full context. Women were not allowed to speak during services, nor were they allowed to sit on the same side of the temple as men.
If they had a question, they had to wait until they were home and ask their husbands. And they were considered unclean and not to be touched when they had their periods.
And, when you look at it in the context of how it is preached and put into action by many neo theos today, it sucks scissors even more.
One of the greatest misfortunes of Christianity, IMO, is that letters written by a murdering Zealot who never even met Jesus and who many think had his own gender and sexuality issues, got more ink in the New Testament than did the words attributed to Jesus.
BTW, which translation are you using?
When a girl of about sixteen wrote Robertson asking if it were okay for her to date a twenty one year old man, Robertson started spouting off about Heloise and Abelard. Thank heaven we have learned nothing since the 13th century! Besides, that ended so well for Heloise.
I thought the dolt would at least suggest she speak to her parents or her pastor about it, but nooooooo.
P.S. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention the bit about having no rights whatsoever and being the property of either her father or her husband, like a goat.
