It’s only fitting that this incident took place at this convention, encapsulating the Republican Party’s core values in a campaign full of dog whistles and outright racism from Romney surrogates to Mittens himself diving into Birtherism. The news broke in a Tweet from David Shuster:
And now TPM confirms:
An attendee at the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Tuesday allegedly threw nuts at a black camerawoman working for CNN and said “This is how we feed animals” before being removed from the convention, a network official confirmed to TPM.
…In a written statement, CNN addressed the matter but divulged few details: “CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”
TPM’s calls to RNC and convention officials were not immediately returned.
As one Facebook commenter noted on the “removal” -
Gregory Gadow: Removed from the convention, as in kicked out from being a delegate and replaced with an alternate? Or removed from the convention, as in taken to another room and given a cold beer and a slap on the back?
I’m sure party officials will underscore that the person was ushered out, as if the comment itself isn’t an issue and has been “addressed.” There may be only a handful of black folks attending the convention, but you can best believe there are quite a few working the event at the venue. Perhaps this bigot finally realized that on their way out to the parking lot.
Update: From the Convention: “Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”

Yet we all know that this is going to be spun that she was angry at the (imaginary, but they believe a lot of nonsense) evil liberal main stream media and her doing this had nothing to do with the camerawoman being black and that the leftists are playing the race card. Unfortunately, stupidity seems to be the law of the land and a lot of people will believe that in the same way that they believed that Dan Cathy was being persecuted for his religious beliefs and not due to his actions which actually hurt people.
Did any Uncle Tom Republicans go over and congratulate the bigot on contributing in that manner to our great society?
Let me know when you wake up from your nap. YES that person did that because the camera person is black and a female. But more do being black. Republicans/tea party people is racist. All the way from the top of the ticket Mitt down to the attendee.
Let me know when you actually read what I posted, and maybe next time try not to be a jerk? It’s obvious that you didn’t read it or you aren’t good at reading comprehension. Either way, not my fault or problem. Pay particular attention to the word “spun” and the words in the parentheses. The words “unfortunately” and “stupidity” are used in there too, I was perfectly clear in what I wrote. I even used an example. C’mon, this isn’t rocket science!
Actually, it shows some signs of progress in the GOP if only one delegate committed this racist act — usually it’s dozens.
They still have two more days to show their white sheets to the public.
As Rev Jesse Jackson Sr once said, “I’m more concerned about the racists ts that wear Brooks Brothers suits and Gucci pumps than the ones who wear white sheets.”
As Dr. Dick said in yesterday’s Late Night thread, we’re past dog whistles and on into air-raid sirens.
Rest assured it was the latter rather than the former.
I was watching CNN this morning just with one ear and one eye while doing other stuff. I heard nothing about this — maybe missed it — seemed all hurricane news.
Anyone else have a report on what CNN’s saying? May be worth tuning in this afternoon in earnest.
From what I have heard, CNN has not said one word about this incident. Figures.
Yup. Between this and the increasingly, infuriatingly, numerous (and blatant) admissions that the whole Republican “voting reform” drive is all about suppressing the votes of key Democratic demographics (like blacks and Latinos), the GOP’s making it harder to deny with a straight face that they’re not fanning the flames of race hatred for electoral fun and profit.
Well the GOP’s got nothing, frankly. It’s gives no real pleasure to say that bc I would actually like to see decent people from either party running for office. Instead we’re being offered the choice of RMoney or DMoney and STFU.
RMoney is very loathsome to most of the GOP party FAITHFUL. There’s always been that air of desparation surrounding the Tea Party, no matter how much they are pandered to by the 1%. This brand of out loud & proud racism has been on display since the 2008 campaign and became even louder after Obama was elected.
Rightwing emails are riddled with racism (plus the other all-time hit parade favorites of sexism & homophobia), including degrading photoshops of the Pres & the First Lady.
Frankly, the wonder here is that there weren’t MORE such incidents so far at this “convention.” But never fear: there’s still time…
Somewhat interesting article in today’s Sacramento Bee written by a Latino talking about the outright racism exhibited by the GOP. FWIW.
My MIL stopped behind me to read the title then commented that it must have been a democrat poseur. She’s a staunch,old-school republican & pretty broadminded.
Frauds are rife with excuses.
You can probably make good money on a wager that they did not send her back onto the floor of the convention, and that no other black person replaced her.
Where was Chris Christie when they were throwing peanuts around?
Jabba the Gov missed out. It would have taken too long to summon his personal helicopter to take him to the other side of the convention hall.
He was on the floor behind trying to catch them with his mouth the way a trained seal catches fish.
How long before the lunatic right begins exercising their beloved “2ns Amendment” option?
I understand the meaning, but, I’m now stuck with an image in my head of Mitt Romney in a suit and Gucci pumps. Ugh.
Folks what seems a blatant disregard for what happen is this:”CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”
CNN don’t want to talk about it anymore…..sheeeeeesh,sheeeeeeesh if we keep quiet racism will just go away.
Condoning racism….some network eh!
“…if we keep quiet racism will just go away.”
It worse than that BMcGrath. What America is witnessing is not racism. It is defacto fascism. And what we term racism is actually, Brown-shirting!
It is this same type of exception. We call heroin addicts, drug addicts. We call individuals addicted to alcohol, an alcoholic. The proper term is substance abuse, where people are, “drug addicts,” just as racism falls under the general heading “Brown-shirting.”
The larger problem is many “brown-shirters,” are substance abusers, drug addicts and their choice of drug is alcohol, decimating neurons, hence greater sustainability of mind control, when your c. cortex is compromised?
To bad they don’t check the IQ’s of those who drink alcohol?
Keeping quiet enabled fascism and its dysfunctional scapegoating!!!!
CNN’s too chickenshit to be willing to piss off the GOP. That’s why they had their employee say that it could have happened anywhere when she and we all know full well that it couldn’t and wouldn’t.
