According to Think Progress, in a draft of its platform, the Republican party is taking a stand on the point of the persecution of gays on the African continent.
But it’s for the countries persecuting gays:
Recently, the Republican National Convention accidentally leaked a draft of the party’s foreign policy platform. The subsection on foreign aid contained a rather peculiar criticism of President Obama’s policy in the area:
The effectiveness of our foreign aid has been limited by the cultural agenda of the current Administration, attempting to impose on foreign countries, especially the peoples of Africa, legalized abortion and the homosexual rights agenda. At the same time, faith-based groups — the sector that has had the best track record in promoting lasting development — have been excluded from grants because they will not conform to the administration’s social agenda. We will reverse this tragic course, encourage more involvement by the most effective aid organizations, and trust developing peoples to build their future from the ground up.
Think Progress points out the truth of the matter:
. . . while it’s true that the Obama campaign has worked to protect gay rights internationally, foreign aid dollars aren’t going to marriage equality campaigns — U.S. money is being used to finance legal and journalistic efforts to protect LGBT Africans from being murdered or jailed for their sexual orientation, a point the President made clear in an official memo on the topic:
I am deeply concerned by the violence and discrimination targeting LGBT persons around the world — whether it is passing laws that criminalize LGBT status, beating citizens simply for joining peaceful LGBT pride celebrations, or killing men, women, and children for their perceived sexual orientation…Agencies engaged abroad are directed to strengthen existing efforts to effectively combat the criminalization by foreign governments of LGBT status or conduct and to expand efforts to combat discrimination, homophobia, and intolerance on the basis of LGBT status or conduct.
Think Progress is also quick to the point out that the claim that the Obama Administration imposing “legalized abortion” is wrong.
However, I am struck by how the Republican party is standing up for the perpetrators of anti-gay persecution. In speaking against the Obama Administration on this, the GOP is giving tacit support the wholesale persecution of gays in African countries such as Uganda, Nigeria, and South Africa. The video below features how lesbians in that country are victims of an awful practice called “corrective rape.”
Whether you believe homosexuality is a sin or not, I think we should all agree that those who call themselves Christians should not lend any support – no matter how large or how small – to this mess.

Doug Coe and his “Family/Fellowship” of “Christian businessMEN” has been working long and hard on these homophobic efforts in Africa. I’ve been aware of it for years. I “get” that the “Christian businessMEN” are there to rip off Africa in whatever fashion to enrich and enhance themselves, alone. But I’m unclear on why Doug Coe & his evil tribe feel the need to support draconian legislation against homosexuals in African nations, such as Uganda (as highlighted often by Rachel Maddow, at least in the past).
My educated “guess” is that Doug Coe’s “Family/Fellowship” is doing “try outs” in Africa to see what they can accomplish in terms of brutal oppression of all citizens. After all, say what you will, even if you happen not to be gay, guess what happens to you if someone decides to accuse you of being gay.
The most vitriolical homophobe is living in a fool’s paradise if they don’t think such oppressive legislation won’t have an impact on them. Then again, we live in the land of the unfree and totally teh stoopit, where many citizens are *quite willing* to have government agents storming into their homes unannounced at 3 am bc they foolishly believe that they “have nothing to hide.”
Info re Rachel Maddow and the anti-gay legislation in Uganda. More info. More.
Yeah because when they young girl is gang raped to make her straight you cant have her aborting her baby
As stated, it mainly IS US “Christians” who are working feverishly behind the scenes to promote this.
Democracy Now info.
Yeah, I noticed that the GOP/Doug Coe/whomever is promoting this notion. Where’s the link to that? It doesn’t exist bc it’s not happening.
That won’t stop millions of the “flock” to snap in line and reliably be ginned up about Obama “forcing” women to have abortions.
It’s clearly a move to shift the spotlight from Akin to Obama, which is easily done with certain segments of the electorate.
If only the divine purification would begin at home. It never will. Are Kwistian apologists the more insane?
And after giving the Nobel peace prize to Obama, who has fired more drone missiles than every other president combined, they give it to the president of one of these third world toilets.

True enough, and no surprise.
However, recall a few months ago. Hillary C made it explicitly clear that tolerance of LGBT issues would be a major consideration for approving foreign aid going forward. If I recall correctly wasn’t it even paired with a waiver authority assigned as high as the Secretary, herself, rather than to some underling?
It sounded serious at the time for a day or two. It was a watch closely moment, see what they really do, and why. Since then, nothing but chirping crickets.
Again, no surprise.

The same could be said of the Obama administration with all the money they’ve given to Uganda, Nigeria and South Africa amongst many other countries:

Party platforms are just words – talk is cheap – this is going by what a President actually does. What Obama has done isn’t mere tacit support, but actual support.
This is the worst. I detest these vile. . . people.
I agree, and would add Egypt (plenty of others too).
By not acting on her own pronouncements on this Clinton is giving tacit approval to what’s been going on in these countries. It would have been better for her to have remained silent.
This isn’t a case of an imperialist US telling other countries what to do, nor is it meddling in their own cultural prerogatives. The US has every right to channel US aid toward locales which respect human rights and away from those that don’t.
Our own shortcomings are fair game for criticism as well, but not cause for demanding US aid for abusers overseas.
