Times change, but the tenets of bigotry don’t.

Racist bigots used to say “there goes the neighborhood” to express their view that black families tainted the white neighborhoods they moved into, decreasing their desirability for white inhabitants.

Today, heterosupramecist bigots express the same sentiment:

“I just think that that word ‘marriage’ is ours. Two-gender couples, for all and ever. And I don’t want that diminished,” Jim Ramseth told CBS News.

In other words, don’t taint the civil marriage neighborhood by moving in.

Racist bigots tried to keep their neighborhoods “pure” by instituting racial restrictive covenants. Heterosupramecist bigots try to keep civil marriage “pure” by propping up laws and constitutional amendments that forbid access to civil marriage licenses by gay and lesbian couples.

Bigotry is bigotry. Only the target changes.
