“I love being home, in this place where Ann and I were raised, where but the both of us were born,” Romney said after introducing his wife, fellow Michigan native Ann Romney. “No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place where we were born and raised.”
…Donald Trump, the most prominent birther in America, is a prominent Romney backer and is scheduled to play a public role at Romney’s national convention in Tampa next week. Romney has said he doesn’t agree with Trump’s continued skepticism that Obama was, in fact, born in America but has declined to strongly repudiate him.
The Obama campaign read Romney’s comment as a hat tip to Trump’s theories and hit him for declining to put real distance between himself and some of his more incendiary supporters.
“Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them. It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff [Joe] Arpaio, and Kris Kobach,” Obama spokesperson Ben LaBolt said in a statement. “But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”

Probably because age and nationality are Constitutional requirements, whereas income is not.

You can say the same thing about African Americans and Hispanics going to prison more and being unemployed more and getting screwed with higher interest rates for home loans more.

IIRC, at the time of his birth Obama was a natural born citizen because he was born in the US. Since his dad was a British citizen, and his mom was a US citizen but not “old enough” under the old law. If Obama’s dad was the US citizen parent, Obama would have a double claim to natural born citizen.
I’m not if any legal precedent there would be to fix illegal loopholes that discriminated against the offspring of young mothers but not the offspring of young fathers.

I read widely and I don’t know of any blog where the regular posters pat each other and the blog itself on the back as much as FDL. It’s embarassing to watch. If FDL were that great it wouldn’t have banished so many dissenters–and there have been many–nor would there need to be the constant choir singing how great FDL is. Truth is FDL represents a rather pathetic orthodoxy that is slightly to the left of Chris Mathews and still begins its day looking to the MSM. True progressives don’t look to the MSM to find out what to talk about.
