GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform
The Republican Party is once again set to enshrine into its official platform support for “a human life amendment” to the Constitution that would outlaw abortion without making explicit exemptions for rape or incest, according to draft language of the platform obtained exclusively by CNN late Monday.
When will America wake up and see the GOP in 2012 has become nothing more than a pro-rape culture endorsing, womb-controlling, misogynist entity?
The freaking hypocrisy of those in the party calling for Akin’s head because his over the top comments blew up in their faces today. Leading lights of this party have been working overtime in the states trying to curtail (or kill) easy access to contraception (for poor/working women) and to legalize state-sanctioned rape of women seeking an abortion. This party’s mission surely has nothing to do with its full-throated proclamations about “individual liberty” — if there are Republicans out there who want to take their party back from these extremists, they haven’t done anything of consequence to take power and influence away from them.

H.R.212 — Sanctity of Human Life Act
To provide that human life shall be deemed to begin with fertilization.
January 7, 2011
Mr. BROUN of Georgia (for himself, Mr. AKIN, Mr. ALEXANDER, Mr. BARTLETT, Mr. BISHOP of Utah, Mr. CARTER, Mr. CHAFFETZ, Mr. COLE, Mr. CONAWAY, Mr. FLEMING, Mr. FORBES, Ms. FOXX, Mr. FRANKS of Arizona, Mr. GARRETT, Mr. GINGREY of Georgia, Mr. GOHMERT, Mr. JONES, Mr. KING of Iowa, Mr. KINGSTON, Mr. KLINE, Mr. LAMBORN, Mr. LATTA, Mr. MANZULLO, Mr. MARCHANT, Mr. MCHENRY, Mr. MCKINLEY, Mr. MILLER of Florida, Mrs. MYRICK, Mr. NEUGEBAUER, Mr. OLSON, Mr. ROE of Tennessee, Mr. ROGERS of Kentucky, Mr. ROGERS of Alabama, Mr. ROONEY, Mr. SCALISE, Mr. SCHOCK, Mr. TERRY, Mr. THOMPSON of Pennsylvania, Mr. WESTMORELAND, Mr. SAM JOHNSON of Texas, Mr. HERGER, Mr. BURTON of Indiana, Mr. RYAN of Wisconsin, Mr. GARY G. MILLER of California, Mr. ADERHOLT, Mr. BACHUS, Mr. CRAWFORD, Mr. LONG, Mr. PEARCE, Mrs. BLACK, Mr. GIBBS, Mr. HUELSKAMP, Mr. LUETKEMEYER, Mr. ROKITA, and Mr. WITTMAN) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary
He and other “Christians” think women are committing murder when they have an abortion.
When a person kills another person in this country can be charged with murder and thrown into prison for life (or executed).
Will 1 million women be thrown into prison a year in this country because they had an abortion?
Americans want to know what every politician running for office will do to women who have abortions? Do they think they should be charged with murder?
Being pro-rape and pro-insider trading is OK if you’re a Republican white male. Or at least that’s what THEY think.

An OT question, Pam; where do you stand on male circumcision?
What bill “redefines rape,” and what new definition does it propose?

H.R.3
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/04/redefine-rape-hr-3-abortion-stealth
They’re doing it again: After jettisoning controversial legislative language narrowing the definition of rape for the purposes of abortion law, House Republicans are attempting a backdoor maneuver to ensure that solely victims of “forcible rape” are eligible for federal funding if they seek abortions.
Now, once this has died down, can we direct some of this indignation at the president’s drone assassination program?
You know what? I’m actually already getting tired of hearing about peanut-brained Akin and his bizarre, evil “spiritual mentor.” Akin the vicious clown is not running for preznit or vice preznit. Akin is just a disgusting sideshow.
We have two equally lunatic thugs running for preznit & vice preznit who follow two completely other religions, one Mormon, one Roman Catholic. Why don’t we find out what Romney’s Mormon “spiritual mentors” think about the duty of a woman to give birth to a baby conceived in rape? Why don’t we point out that Ryan’s Roman Catholic (RC) “spiritual mentors” wholeheartedly support Ryan’s supremely fucked-up “Sanctity of Life Act” which outlaws artificial fertilization, contraception and abortion under any circumstances?
Why don’t we have the guts to confront the RC pope and the RC bishops who are trying to use Ryan and the GOP Congress to completely gut women’s rights and drag them into 21st century serfdom? It’s time to denounce all the elected officials acting as stooges of the RC bishops. This is not just a war on women, this is the Roman Catholic church’s war on democracy. Fuck the Catholic Church.
Sadly: Never.
Hate to say it, but we ain’t done yet. I fully expect things to get much worse, all with the willing joyful compliance of women who’ve been carefully taught to buy into this heinous oppressive controlling misogynistic crap.
Thanks for the post. Keep talking about it. Won’t see that much in the so-called MSM really spelling it out, although there was a good political cartoon in my nooz paper today.
Agree.
Fuck the Catholic Church, the Mormon Church, the Evangelicals, and on and on. Amen.
These are the true spreaders of hate in the world.
For our own sakes we must start thinking of breaking away from these hateful, crazy, misogynistic, war-mongering nut jobs.
Dear Trolls, Sorry, Wrong Way Ryan has been unmasked. every facet of his life is rad, rad, rad…
Republican Party is rad, white…and on election day, blue.
With a tip of the hat to Think Progress, here are the original sponsors of the Sanctity of Life Act:
And his call to Akin to quit is another example of his hypocrisy.
He knows all of American women finding out how extreme he is threatens his chances of living in the #2 Big House
Women voters need to call these politicians and demand to know if they will be sending women to prison for having abortions. Or sending doctors to prison for performing them.
That piece of shit bill now has a total of 64 co-sponsors, nine more since it was introduced in January 2011 at the beginning of the current Congress. I can’t immediately spot any Dems on that list of 64, but I would be astounded if there weren’t at least one. We could crowd-source the statements on the 64 members House websites to show how they invoke their particular “spiritual mentors” as inspiration for their sponsorship of that trash.
As we learned with Obama’s Rev. “GD the United States” Wright, nothing to see here.
Cut that guy Akin a break. He did clarify things:
http://my.firedoglake.com/cranestation/2012/08/21/todd-akin-apologizes/
(spoiler alert: satire)
The bill says the government has:
The bill doesn’t require the government to do so. No need for anyone to be thrown into prison.
I see nothing that stops them from throwing women in prison for killing a “human being”.
Not sure which bill you’re referring to, but the Sanctity of Human Life Act has this constitutional authority justification:
No ambiguity there. The intent is quite clear to “enforce” the 14th amendment’s prohibition against deprivation of “life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”
jeez, I skipped right over your opening comment with the whole list of sponsors of the Sanctity of Human Life Act. Pays to read from the beginning ….
Sorry if this has already been posted…
Brutal satire from The Onion
Pregnant Woman Relieved To Learn Her Rape Was Illegitimate
http://www.theonion.com/articles/pregnant-woman-relieved-to-learn-her-rape-was-ille,29258/
Well, what do you know? Another 'small government' libertarian-type who endorses vast federal intrusion into the personal well-being of full-grown autonomous agents and the decisions that profoundly affect their heatlth and lives. . .how freedom-loving of them!
Just to wrap this up, here is the (surprisingly short) text of H.R. 212, the Sanctity of Human Life Act, as introduced in January 2011:
It hasn’t gone anywhere since it was referred to a subcommittee on Jan. 24, 2011. No amendments.
I see that the dem faithful have a new meme to dance with for a while. The Bain, tax return attacks didn’t do too well and i doubt this one will either.
Willard is still leading in the Gallup poll and the dems have zero-nada positives to counter him with. Obama is getting ready to go to the dark side on Syria because they got them nasty WMDs, that should help his numbers.
???
What color is the sky where you live?
I take it’s the “life begins at” part that you don’t agree with.
How and why any woman in this country could purport to be or vote republican is waay beyond my meager sensibilities. Any person, male, female, or otherwise, with h alf a brain, and I speak from experience here, should be able to see the GOP is a cancer on Amerian and needs to be eliminated as a social and political force.
I remember the republican party of Eisenhower and Dirksen and Scranton and even George Romney. They were honorable men. Ths republican party has devoilvced into a bunch of knuckle dragging lying, misogynistic, capitalistic pillagers intent on looting the country for their benefit and the benefit of their friends and, in turn, destroying the middle class.
Down at Hooter’s, we all know is the center of the political universe, over 60% of those still capable of raising their hands last night said they would not vote for Romney unless he released his tax returns.
That’s pretty damn definitive to me, Sherri, Amnber, the other Amber, and the other Sherri.
Oh, and I forgot Myshelle.
Thanks. I mighta missed that.
I do agree with the article. How could this asshat Akin do that type of damage to a party that has for years been so supportive of women’s rights and even wwent so far as to nominate a woman (a genuine hockey mom who could field dress a moose in under 20 minutes) to be just one 70 year old heartbeat from the presidency. Look at all the women who hodl priminent roles in the GOPP. There’s……….uh……….hmmmmm……..well, no not her……….I’m sure there’s some I’m overlooking.
This could be the Repugs bone to the private prison industry. 1 million women a year. They must be salivating. Good thing there’s no insider trading in Congress because these prison stocks are going to go through the roof.
Are you kidding or is that a real incident?
If real, why the vote?
The sky is a beautiful Reality Blue today here in NM i hope it’s not too cloudy and gloomy where you reside.
Just came up in the course of the conversation. Most of those guys there are republicans and I like to yank their chain. ‘Specially when they’re drunk. But, they ARE pretty miffed that Romney won’t tell THEM how much taxes he paid. Even more pissed off at his wife, Marie Antoinette. Some of these guys make a pretty fair wage and most pay waaaay more than 13% in federal taxes.
You guys MUST go the the link Surtt posted at #24.
So now the Hooters demographic are going to be the deciding factor in the election and i thought we couldn’t fall any lower.
I’m sure they think they do.
Problem is Romney’s too stupid to point out he’s talking about his “effective” rate, and every shlub at Hooters is talking their perceived “marginal” rate.
Start with base salary, subtract $11,900 standard deduction for a married couple, subtract $4800 for kids under 17, subtract itemized deductions like home mortgage interest, etc. That’s almost nothing to Romney, but can cut away half our income before we pay a penny in taxes.
http://www.cpasitesolutions.com/content/calcs/TaxMargin.html
I plugged in $50,000 income, 1 kid and $10,000 in itemized deductions and got an effective rate of 4.26%.
For the high rollers, I put in $120,000 income, 2 kids and $18,000 in itemized deductions and got 10.22%.
No one at Hooters is paying 13% effective rate.
“How and why any woman in this country could purport to be or vote republican is waay beyond my meager sensibilities.”
I think it’s a combination of faith in some set of shared Republican beliefs (not that there necessarily are any such – just that they believe in them and that they believe they are shared, at least to some degree) and viewing their party as a “team” (as in a sports team) that they want to win regardless of what they do or how they do it.
Convincing someone that their “home team” is actually working against them can be difficult, even with hard evidence. Perhaps the best people to ask are some of those who have made the transition.
