WTF? Anyone up for some gun control yet?
A man in Ohio was arrested Saturday night after entering a showing of The Dark Knight Rises with a loaded gun, among other weapons.
According to police in North Ridgeville, Scott Smith, 37, had in his possession a satchel containing a Glock 9mm handgun, ammunition clips, and three knives. He had an additional knife strapped to his body.
Jeremiah Bullins, an off-duty police officer moonlighting as theater security, became suspicious after seeing Smith enter the Regal Cinema theater 30 minutes before the movie was scheduled to screen. He followed Smith into the theater and asked to search his bag.
“When Bullins asked why he carried the weapons into the theater, the man said, ‘No problem. I’ll put them in my car.’ But it was too late for that,” Lt. Ray Arcuri told the Plain Dealer.
Smith, a married father of one, was booked into the Westlake jail. Arcuri said he is not legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon.
And in this report from NewsNet5, Smith didn’t just “OOPS” forgot he had that bag:
Police said Smith was the first person in the theater at the time of his arrest but up to 80 people would have been there 20 minutes later. He was sitting in the last row in a middle seat. This was a “tactical position,” according to officers, his back to the wall and facing out.
“If he chose to do something there, all his potential victims were in front of him and he would have an advantage over them,” Westlake Police Detective Lt. Ray Arcuri said.
They said Smith made no threats and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities also said Smith told them he had the weapons in self defense, but police aren’t buying it.
When they searched his home, they found seven rifles, five or six handguns, lots of ammo, gas masks and bulletproof vests.

If I were a marketing executive for “The Dark Knight” (or an official with the NRA), I’d be thanking my lucky stars for that observant off-duty police officer.
Whodda guessed that something like THIS woulda happened.
Of course, it’s all the fault of CommieNaziSocialist liberals who are claimed to “oppose” Second Amend rights. Or something…
Nothing to see here (white man with guns). Move along now children…
Beam me up Scotty. These fucks are crazy around these parts.
Yes we need some gun control!
Oh wait, he is not legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon.
If we only had another law, a really, really sternly worded one, that’s the answer.
I’d lay odds the NRA will instead be screaming about the violation of this idiot’s “right” to carry these instruments of mayhem into a closed public space, to protect himself in the uncivilized desolation they intend for this country.
By your logic, if he had walked in carrying the gun openly he would have been legal.
You wouldn’t want any gun control, strongly worded or otherwise, because bullets deliver the only strength to your arguments.
Self defense he says? You can’t make this shit up.
Gun Laws make as much sense as Drug Laws.
If you follow the law you won’t get busted. This guy didn’t follow the law. He didn’t do anything or hurt anybody, but he broke the law, lock him up.
Slow down, cowboy.
The NRA last year was lobbying to weaken states concealed carry laws:

You know, the kind of laws that allowed the cops to arrests this nutbar and get him away from the movie patrons before he was able slaughter any of them in “self-defense” The kind of laws that have been pushed by the gun-control advocates you are trying to mock. The kind of laws that the NRA is lobbying like crazy to eliminate.
Your argument – Hey the gun laws worked here, so they must be a bad idea – is one of the lamest I’ve heard.
Who needs laws? My gun is my peacekeeper.
Is there ANY credible effort gathering opposition to the NRA? I don’t even know of a website to go to for info. None of our “leaders” has the balls to even say “gun” in any kind of adverse tone.
It is so frustrating to hear about people intending to collect more and more arms for alledged “self protection”, even in this “enlightened” FDL (Yeah, right, that’s intelligent,) and I can’t offer any option that tries to make sense.
No more guns, period, unless you can prove a need to hunt. Then you get a single-shot muzzle loader. 1 per adult limit in the household that proves the need.
No more police with guns. No more citizens with guns. No more criminals with guns.
It will take decades to enforce, but it will be worth it.
I don;t about that Kris.
IMO he was grossly under-prepared for an attacker who had an assault rifle, a shotgun, and two pistols.
One semi-0automatic handgun and a couple of knives???? That is NOT what I would take to movie theatre. /s
Maybe to dinner. BUt not to a movie or the post office.
Hey Pam – he was illegally in possession of a gun already. You got that part, right?
It is also known as “THE place to sit, if you will be attending a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises”.
Me neither. Better have a rocket launcher in reserve.
Doesn’t sound like anything was concealed. Just give him a warning.
Next the supremes will expand on the theme that guns do not kill people, people kill people, by declaring the discharge of a gun to be free speech.
Bullets are free speech, because only people kill people, and following you constitutional right to bare arms (which to me mean you have the right to wear a short sleeved shirt), then the discharge of your gun is an expression of free speech.
Bullets are legally equivalent to words.
Because only people kill people.
The knives were for the snack bar hot dogs. The gun was needed because the price of popcorn was prohibitively expensive.
LOL! Besides, what could possibly go wrong with a shoot out in a dark theatre?
