Bwahahahahahaha…can you believe it (of course you can)?
The Tea Party Patriots, which describes itself as the nation’s largest tea party organization, called on the actor “to apologize for his divisive and irresponsible comments” in an email sent to reporters on Wednesday.
On the “Smiley and West” radio show, Jones recently said, “I think I have figured out the tea party. I think I do understand racism because I was taught to be one by my grandmother.”
Right. No reason for the acclaimed actor to make those remarks or to see the Tea Party as rife with extremists. None at all. How about some of the merch being hawked at actual Tea Party and right-wing websites (via Samuel Warde):

How dare you point out our racism?!?

Hmmm . . .I almost hate to say it, but I love like the _Rooftops_ and the _Any White Guy_ shirts, both are wickedly satirical and the latter seems to be the voting strategy of some. Having said that, the sock monkey and Oreo items are irredeemably racist; not funny at all. I guess I know some people of color that would probably say O is _white on the inside_, but thats not for me (a caucasian) to say and is something I dont believe anyway.
Can you believe? Meaning how completely disgusting that stuff is? I must be terribly over-protected. At least I have not been seeing that sick display…yet.
Ah, come on, they are not racists, they have Allen West!
I’ve seen a little bit of that kind of thing but not as much as I had expected to.
Page 23 of the Right Wing Debate Tactics Manual: “Accuse your opponent of the very thing you’re guilty of.”
Page 24 is: “Then rely on the mainstream ‘liberal’ media and ‘fact’ checkers to draw false equivalencies and tell people that ‘everybody does it’”.
Nabisco should sue them for copyright/trademark infringement. The only thing missing is a noose, ’cause I’ll bet that’s what they’re thinking. How do people learn to hate so, and can’t they see wrong when they’re repeatedly told?
Well, that “Any White Guy” t, cheerfully worn by the tatooed moran (sic) is pretty cheerfully damning, isn’t it?
The “Oreo” t-shirt, on the other hand (appropriating Black cultural comment as it does) suggests a more nuanced–not entirely untrue–view, at least to the extent to which Mr. Obama has internalized the values of an essentially racist society and is effecting such racism through a brutally racist foreign policy, squashing the legitimate aspiration of people of color in places like Honduras and Paraguay, bombing exclusively brown people (whose dead and exploded children often look heart-breakingly like my own*) in four or five countries.
*I know, I project… How objectionable to project.
P.S. James Earl Jones, U Michigan grad and one of my heroes.
Hey, Baron…those two are NOT “satirical”…they are just as bad as the other two, and if you don’t think so, I question your reasoning powers! The “Any White Guy” is clearly and undeniably racist, and the “Vote From The Rooftops” seems to call for assassinating anyone you don’t agree with. Please explain your “satirical” comment.
Poe’s Law.
Sorry, Pam, but I’m calling this bull shit.
I Googled “tea party merchandise” and clicked on six or seven actual TEA party sites. I looked at page after page of merchandise. Some of what I saw was stupid, but none of it was racist.
There was another link under the title “26 shocking photos of merchandise from tea party and right-wing websites.” Notice the conflation of “TEA Party” and “right-wing.” So a white supremacist site and a TEA party site are considered the same. It was on that NON-TEA Party site that I saw all of the racist merchandise you attribute to the TEA Party. That would be like grabbing photos from a communist site and saying “shocking photos of merchandise from Democratic and left-wing websites.”
I value credibility and am very disappointed to see this blog on this site.
White supremacist are “right wing”.
Hey nonpartisianliberal
I notice that you always defend the baggers -too close to home for you?
Racist ….
I’m guessing you bought the oreo tee shirt and the sock monkey ….
“liberal” indeed…
Id be happy to:
_Any White Guy_ is a far more damning critique of internalized racism than it is some sort of overtly racist statement itself. In fact, I have a hard time believing that is not the real intent of that piece. Would you have me believe that you don’t know people who would vote for any white guy over O? If not, is MR really the best possible candidate that the opposition can offer?
_Vote From the Rooftops_- I think is a far more visceral depiction of the Kennedy quote ,,Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable,,. It just so happens that the current waffler-in-chief is a person of color, which brings up all sorts of gross racial context, I must confess. It is unfortunate that I share a sentiment or two with the clowns in the Tea Party, but what is true is true regardless of who says it.
Just to make myself absolutely clear: I do not think that any one _should_ be assassinated– ever. Merely that I would repeat the Kennedy quote; those who make changes impossible at the polls may one day reap bitter grain. I am not making a normative judgement.
Oh, go eat shit and die. How can you notice that I always defend the TEA party when I don’t even remember the last time I mentioned them? And I don’t always defend them. I think they are simplistic and out of touch with reality.
I’m just not as tribal as you. Apparently you don’t care if something is true or false, right or wrong, as long as it’s “your” side doing it to the other side. And now you tell a lie about me. Up yours.
ADDED: Why don’t you link to the actual TEA party sites that sell that crap?
