We’ve seen epic denials from pols that are hall-of-fame worthy when they are caught in a sex scandal with someone of the same sex — think Larry “ I never have been gay“ Craig , or Bob “black gay panic” Allen come to mind — but we’ve got a real winner today. Not only do we have a rare case of a female politician in the maelstrom of a lesbian sex scandal, but she’s (ahem) coming out of the box swinging away with an UNBELIEVABLE reason why the story cannot possibly be true.
A political scandal in Florida has become the stuff of soap opera, with a former aide to Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll claiming that she caught her boss in a “compromising position” with another female staffer.
The accuser, Carletha Cole, was arrested in October and charged with releasing an illegally taped conversation to a Florida newspaper reporter. In the recording, published by The Florida Times-Union, Carroll’s chief of staff is heard complaining about Florida Gov. Rick Scott and others. If convicted, Cole faces up to five years in prison.
But the criminal case took a turn toward the bizarre this week, with the Associated Press citing court documents that claim Cole walked in on Carroll and a top aide, Beatriz Ramos, engaged in a sexual escapade in the lieutenant governor’s office.
Alrighty then. You always expect a haughty denial, particularly in this case since Carroll is married and kids. And there are charges of retaliation since Cole has been fired (she passed a polygraph about this incident, btw). BUT…protect thy keyboards for this racist, homophobic statement by Carroll that is not to be believed — apparently she is the kind of black woman whose looks couldn’t possibly have her mistaken as a lesbo.
Carroll says, “The problem is that when you have these accusations that come out, it’s not just one person you’re attacking. It’s an entire family. My husband doesn’t want to hear that. He knows the type of woman I am. I mean, my kids know the type of woman I am. For twenty-nine years - I’m the one that’s married for twenty-nine years. The accuser is the one that’s been single for a long time. So usually black women that look like me don’t engage in relationships like that.”
1) What does a black woman who has a lesbian sexual encounter look like?
2) What does ANY woman who has a lesbian sexual encounter look like?
3) And did marital status ever stop any of these pols from swinging out?
The list of logical questions could go on and on, but we’re talking about a stone-cold bigot on the Sunshine State payroll allegedly caught with her knickers down with her travel aide. Feel free to watch her giggle away at her pathetic homophobic defense.

Dayam! Y’all got the mark of Cain on ya or a great big scarlet “L” emblazoned in a prominent place? I always though that lesbians all just looked like all the other women. Certainly all the ones I know do.
Is she a bad Lt. Gov.? Is her personal business detrimental to her being able to do her job? What was Cole’s motive for taping and then releasing the tape? Has Lt. Gov. Carroll worked against the interests of the GLBT community? What’s up with this supposed ‘outing’?
Hate to say it , but many Trinidadian “blacks” don’t consider themselves African-Americans. They look down their noses at African-Americans and conveniently forget their own slave history. This chick served 20 years in the Navy. Hmm…Bring on the polygraph.
Talk about a non-denial denial. Is anyone really surprised though? After all, who’d want to be on a ticket with a known crook?
Look who the Governor is. And ask yourself if you could be the Lt. Gov on a ticket with Lex Luthor(or Skeletor).
It is sad that a homosexual relationship is considered scandalous. The real surprise is that a black woman who may be a lesbian is a member of the homophobic, racist, lesbianophobic Republican party. It is scandalous that she is married and may be engaged in an adulterous relationship, and further that she may not be telling the truth about her sexuality or her relationship. Does is seem strange that these situations seem to involve Republicans so much more than Democrats? Should she be impeached ala Clinton?
She’s a Republican. In Florida.
I think that answers all the required questions about her working against the interests of LGBT citizens.

Well, that certainly may be true, but I’d sure like some evidence. I don’t know who the accuser is and whether or not she has an ax to grind. Just wondering. Kinda surprised, really, that folks are so happy to go after this woman (who seems to have done many good services over the years and seems to have raised 3 kids, one of whom is a professional athlete)….. just wondering. I think Gov. Whatever his name is is loathsome, but I would like to know more about the Lt. Gov’s history of ‘wrongdoing worthy of being castigated.’
Being a lesbian does not make her evil. But if she is then she should not allow another to go to jail for five years. So the truth has to come out.
So the quick research I did says that Cole walked in on the Lt.Gov in a compromising position. Then the Lt. Gov. fired Cole. Then Cole taped something. Then went public.
Cole sounds like a decent person…..gave up a chance to go to Harvard in order to work for Lt. Gov. (She must have thought it was worth doing.)
All kind of nasty, really. Why doesn’t everyone just leave everyone else’s sexual activity alone (unless, of course, it involves the unwilling! and especially children!) How did this incident get everyone in such a mess?

What a woman looks like seems a poor defence against this charge. This is a charge. Not because of her choice of partners, but because she vowed to “…cleave only unto…” But what the hell, Mark Sanford served out his full term.

Engaging in a sexual escapade at work does not represent good judgement period.
It sounds like a syllogism, not a matter of physical appearance:
Major premise: Married with three children, husband and kids know who I am.
Minor premise: Accuser is (sadly) unmarried.
Therefore: Social appearances and situations would suggest I’m not the gay one.
Nonsense nonetheless.
She’s bisexual. Her error is in cheating on a monogamous relationship.
There is nothing inherently unusual abut being bisexual., Cheating on a committed relationship, however, is dishonest at the least.
I think most people have missed the point. Work is not the place for sex. I know people that have had heterosexual sex at work and got fired. Anyone that has sex at work is stupid and whether or not it is heterosexual or homosexual, deserves to be fired. I do not know the facts and can wait until the matter is resolved.

I am bisexual and I have slept with many, many more straight women then I have bi or gay women. And presently, I am in Tallahassee. Hmmm…maybe I will take a walk up to the Capitol tomorrow!!!
