Today GetEQUAL, the headline-making, pro-equality social justice advocates staged a peaceful, ardent protest near the White House to urge President Obama to sign an Executive Order to ban workplace discrimination by fed contractors.
Fifteen activists came from around the country to participate in the demonstration, staged the day after the President declared his support for marriage equality. There was a strategic decision to engage in a manner that would not result in arrests. From the organization’s statement:
Rather than organizing an arrestable action at the White House as planned, we shifted course — still believing that we need to push the president to create real, concrete change for LGBT Americans. After a significant amount of soul-searching, we decided as a group that we can be grateful while still asking for our full equality — no compromises, no excuses. We considered changing our target, but decided that the power to change LGBT lives across the country lies in the hands of President Obama, and we would take our case back to the White House.
So we headed to Pennsylvania Avenue, posters in hand, to send one clear, simple message: “Thank you — and we’re more than marriage.” Our signs read: “Thank you, and sign the Executive Order!” “Thank you, and stop deporting our families!” “Thank you, and pass ENDA!” and “Thank you, and stop LGBT bullying!”
This action lifted up a voice that hasn’t been heard since Wednesday afternoon — an unrelenting, uncompromising call for full LGBT equality. Evolution on marriage equality is fantastic, but it’s not everything. We want to be fully equal under the law — and we’ll keep taking action until we get there.
As you can see by the black-and white-photos by C.D. Kirven, the action harkened back to classic protests of the past.

In what world does a Constitutional Law Professor think Gays should marry but Gays should not have equal Job Protection?….Has Obama been reading Scalia’s legal theories?
Harry Truman signed an executive order that integrated the Army. Today Gays can serve they can die for America but some little turd draft Dodger like Mitt can deny them work on a federal contract?
Way to look out for Gay Vets coming home Obama.
Given that Mitt and friends ( he lacked the guts to get in a one on one fight something every Dark Person who went to a White school can relate to by the way Racists and Gay haters do have that in common that they are freakin cowards) attack that Gay kid because they were denying their latent homosexuality can Mitt and Bain Capital be denied Federal contracts or is it only Gay workers who are getting the shaft?
Its nice Obama supports Gay getting Married but how many Gays in this economy can’t get Married without a job? A half loaf just leaves everyone unsatisfied Obama.
Obama is in trouble because he went half loaf on jobs, on healthcare ( O thought Healthcare would be his crowning achievement ), the housing crisis, bank regulation etc etc.
Getting a law passed is nice but not if it is not big enough does to do the job its supposed too.
Half Loaves the Failure of the Obama Presidency sounds like the title of a book. that Or Surrender despite overwhelming Public Support The failure of the Obama Presidency .
It’s eleventy-dimensional chess. He wants to wait till Congress passes comprehensive ENDA for all of us LGBT folk. (You know, they’ll get to that on the tenth of never.) Then he’ll put his John Hancock on it. Mission accomplished.

Quoting: “We are not approaching this at this time through executive authority,” Carney said repeatedly. “We are, however … aggressively pursuing passage of ENDA. And that requires working with stakeholders and building a body of persuasive evidence that this is the right thing to do. And that is what we’re committed to doing.”
So DONATE NOW, stakeholder!

Much like Mitt being threatened by the Gay Loki claimed Sif was having an affair with him, the rape of the locke Also shows attacks on hair are of a sexual nature.

I know its off topic but I do believe that Mitt does not want to be compared to the Norse God of evil. That and I believe Loki ended up getting his lips shown shut by Thor at the end of the tale so he would not lie anymore.
Given Fox News and Rush’s recent troubles Loki er Mitt’s lips very well maybe shut soon:)
Its funny when a Mexican from Public school with grammar problems makes Literary and Norse Myth catches that tv talking heads who hate immigrants from Ivy league schools don’t catch:)
I really expected George Will to have caught at least one of these parallels. Now then just who says public schools suck and pay for private or corporate schools are better:)
Like he aggressively pursued Health care? Job Stimulus etc if Obama is for something expect at best a law to be passed that arrives with much fanfare but little actual effect.
Obama laws are full of sound and fury but in the end they often signify nothing or make things worse.
Cripes I just wrote a great Mitt Romney campaign theme.
Got a question for you, Pam.
Would you support a move by Gay people and progressives to try to force the democrats to pull their convention out of Charlotte and move it to a state that unequivocally supports equal rights for Gays?
Seconded
Actually, Democratic campaigners remind me a lot of Tom Friedman and friends during the height of the Iraq War. Sure, things are going tough against the enemy. But our side has the bad guys on the run. Just give us four more years…. Four more years…. And then we’ll deliver to you the ponies that we keep promising.
I signed the petition for that, but it is late to move a big convention, they were dumb to have it there in the first place!
That’s my friend, Brittany, from (un)Occupy, leading the charge in your top photo, Pam. We went to jail together, and we are sistas forevah!
Good for you, BG.
And thanks, Things’…
…whatever the practicality of demanding a physical move; the thing is, to flex our muscles a little, since, about 24 hours ago, when Obama crawled out from under his desk to, as usual, try to have it both ways, it was good evidence that we, too, can move him around some. (The republicans found this out in a matter of days after he raised his hand and took the oath.)
The question is, are Pam and her protective-of-Obama ilk willing to help us?
So, Pam, the crickets are chirping.

Tiffani & Iana from Get Equal Texas, who are allies of the Occupy Austin OccuQueers, are in those pictures! Our action yesterday in Austin which I posted about on MyFDL today was in solidarity with their trip to DC. They’re definitely not afraid to get arrested (I was there when they got arrested together on Valentine’s Day) so I am sure the group made the best decision for the political climate & the situation they found themselves in. I’m proud of them going all the way to DC to amplify this message that we can’t wait any longer for equality — beyond marriage!
Obysmal’s position just boggles the brain. Are there enough undecided voters that support workplace discrimination based on non-workplace life situations?
Is he really this much of a plonker?
And will said undecided voters ever vote for such a plonker? I think not.
Right on, Kit. We know these folks are going to do their best in DC.
