There are many, many people of faith, progressive houses of worship fighting out and proud against Amendment One in solidarity with their LGBT neighbors who will be hurt by it, should it pass. On the other side? A man reveling in shooting up an anti-amendment sign, and now this news of a pastor in Fayetteville, Sean Harris, of Berean Baptist Church, whose loving message for parents of a child who might be gay — just beat it out of him. Sickening. (Via JMG and Good As You):

That’s it, these people are officially insane. First there was the story about that guy who thought that the father’s friends should rape the gay out of his daughter because there’s nothing like a little violence and being violated to make women finally realize that guys are just awesome to have sex with and now this “reverend” thinks that violence is the answer as well. There’s no logic or reason to believing these things, they just get off on it and are wrapping it in religion as an excuse to do it and think that they can get away with it.
I have sent this info to Raleigh’s News and Observer, WRALTV, WTVD and News Channel 14 (Time Warner Cable’s news). Let’s see if it gets any NC coverage. This is the kind of behavior that flourishes when elected officials push for laws to legally define a group of people as “less than” and not deserving of the full rights of citizenship.
When Ronnie Paris, Jr. was 3-years-old, his father thought he seemed gay and beat him to death. These monsters instructing parents to carry out domestic violence against their own children MUST be held to account.
The diagnosis you are looking for is “antisocial personality disorder”. Otherwise known as sociopathy.
It fits an astounding number of pastors and church leaders to a T:

Here’s one thing I’m seeing with everything that’s happening in NC right now: the homophobes have come unhinged in a very big and very public way. I understand that their connections to the hinges were shaky at best, but with Amendment 1 on the ballot next week, we need to get all their insanity in front of the public as much as possible.
Because it worked so well for Kirk Murphy. Oh wait…
Tim – While you’re sending it to the media, go ahead and send it to whatever NC’s version of Child Protective Services is. They need to be on the alert for some nitwit parent taking what Sean Harris said to heart and acting on it.
I smell another self loathing, closet case……..
Ah yes. NC: state of Virginia Foxx who said that the murder of Matthew Shepard was merely a “hoax,” and not a hate crime, while Mrs. Shepard was present in the audience.
Is there something in the NC water table that culminates in citizens being sociopaths? I get that NC is in Dixie… once again flourishing “home” to bigots and bigotry writ large.
The south hardly has a corner on bigotry. By far the most intolerant place I’ve ever lived was San Diego, California.
My condolences to those who still want to claim “Christian”. But excuse me, I have to throw up now.
True. Although my experience of San Diego is not like what’s being written here about NC. I may have a false impression.
No, it’s a different flavor of bigotry but does it really matter who they are hating on?
It’s way past time for those who follow the actual teachings of Jesus Christ to call out this man, shame him and take back the word “christian”. I’m not a christian, but neither is Sean Harris, and anybody who endorses what he says or defends him ain’t no christian either.
Pardon me for wandering from the topic.
Is anybody else seeing on the main PHB page an ad which looks like an iconic classroom blackboard (i.e. green with white chalk). Scattered stick figures of children holding hands: all of them male-male or female-female couples, with pink hearts scribbled above their heads.
And the text, with a handwritten look. First line in large white letters. Then a link in pink letters, a bit smaller:
Homosexual Sex Acts Taught in Elementary School?
Say NO! Sign the Petition
the usual suspects, I suppose
(those scribbles don’t look frightening to me, but I’m hardly their target audience)
oops, that should read “line in pink…” not “link”
(wouldn’t ever click on such a thing. feels like encouragement.)
What a douche…..
He got this idea from the Landover Baptist Church parody site.
“What to Do With a Sissy Boy Who Says “No” to Sports”
http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news1004/nosports.html
“Enroll Your Sissy Boy in Vacation Gun Camp”
http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news0703/biblecamp.html
And my favorite: “Sissy Boy Caught Playing with Dolls”
http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news1099/sissy.html
From the latter:
It’s getting to the point where you can’t tell parody from reality. Which is the more ridiculous, really?
This is a good passage too from that last Landover link:
From Science AGOGO: “Empirical evidence for homophobia’s link to repressed same-sex attraction”
http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/20120309012352data_trunc_sys.shtml
I’m not sure whether this is parody or biography!
(If the latter, who wrote it? Sister-in-law probably.)
The statements aren’t even accurate. The word homosexual in the passage they are referring to isn’t even present in the original manuscripts. The word used meant either male prostitutes or sodomites. Many christians try to equate sodomites with homosexuals, but there are huge differences. Sodomites(according to the bible) ran around group raping anyone they could get they’re hands on.
I’m a homosexual, but I’m not a prostitute, and I sure as hell ain’t a sodomite.
Hey isn’t this the place the DNC is holding it’s National Convention??????
I’ll bet this guy likes to fondle large north american pit vipers, too!
Which makes him SOOOO relevant and interesting to american voters.
You GO, Pam.
And while you’re going, why don’t you give us a little teensy thread on how Barack Obama STILL refuses to stand up for the right of gay people to marry? For some strange reason, the stand of the preznint of the United States on this, or to be accurate, the LACK of one, seems a little more relevant to me than some hardshell Baptist talking more gibberish.
But if you’re heavy into covering Obama’s feckless ass, I guess your mileage can vary, right?
)
Actually, according to the Bible, the Sodomites hoarded wealth and luxury, were lazy and arrogant, and refused to help the poor or observe the appropriate treatment of guests and strangers.
While we’re sharing and reporting, feel free to report this go-preacher to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office SVU for advocating child abuse. http://www.ccsonc.org/SVU.htm
That’ll put a stop to him.
In case you hadn’t noticed, Pam is very busy working on the bigot ballot marriage amendment in her own state, North Carolina, and this took place in North Carolina. As happens, Obama has determined that DOMA is unconstitutional, meaning, he thinks the gay married couples in states with marriage equality should have federal recognition of their marriages. Is there anything about that which is difficult for you to understand?
Wow, this is the worst thing I have seen in awhile. What is with all this hate the churches are spewing? Every time I see a church sign that says Vote For Marriage, I get so sad. I prefer to equate churches with love, not hate. Their signs really mean vote for marriage as we define it, aka let’s not have separation of church and state, and we’ll say we’re on God’s side so we don’t seem to be prejudice haters. Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but this goes further than opinions. This is a personal attack against people that just happen to love, respect, and commit to someone of the same sex. This is an attack against marriage. I have quite a few friends that are gay and in committed relationships (some are married to their significant other and have children). They are some of the best people I know. They are educated with good jobs, pay their taxes, good citizens, and are good to their families. I know quite a few heterosexual couples that are disrespectful, greedy people that are verbally abusive to their spouses and neglect their children. How come their love is more valid than gay couples? Why do they somehow earn more rights (basic rights that we all should have)? And if someone else says sex was created for man and women to have children – I guarantee you there are lots of straight ‘active’ people actively trying to not have children. Should we make this illegal? Or should we not interfere with what consenting committed adults, that respect each other, do behind closed doors? I don’t believe in a God that promotes judgement and hatred. I firmly believe in a God that is compassionate and loving, and wants everyone to respect and love one another.
