This AM Kate and I early voted – North Carolinians can vote from now until May 5, or on primary day May 8. At around 9:30 AM we went to the Durham County Library (South Regional), one of six sites in the city where you can vote early. We have optical scan machines where you fill in the oval by pen and send it into the receiving scanner. It showed that I was voter #447, and there was much more activity and cars in the parking lot than I expected — that’s a good sign, since Durham is one of the cities we need good turnout in to defeat the Amendment.

But Pam… what if you change your mind?
“Experience might lead us to be cautious about the certainty with which moral positions are built with biblical support.
“Before Wilberforce, Christians in this country saw slavery as having biblical support for what was the God-given in the ordering of creation,” Holtam said, referring to the great 18th-century abolitionist, William Wilberforce.

Pam — As an election official, I can say without a doubt I’d rather have optical scan rather than those damned touch screens.
Maura — This is historical fact. Unfortunately, the religious reicht are *never* interested in facts, only those officially approved by their pulpit masters.
