Wheaton College ‘professor of Christian education’ slapped with child porn charges

“Most of my research has involved children either in school or church contexts. I am particularly interested in family nurture of children’s spiritual experiences and development.”
— from the bio page of Donald Ratcliff, Ph.D., Price-Lebar Professor Of Christian Education at Wheaton College, charged with two counts of aggravated child pornography.

Is there a Pervert 101 template out there that requires the guys busted to hold pious positions in society, and whose professional life revolves around children? When a story like this breaks, you just shake your head.

Carol Stream Police Cmdr. Ken George said detectives opened an undercover investigation two or three months ago after they observed Ratcliff’s computer trading child pornography online. The probe culminated Wednesday morning, when police executed a search warrant at Ratcliff’s home and seized computers, discs and hard drives.

…A spokeswoman for Wheaton College had no immediate comment on the allegations Thursday but said Ratcliff is in the process of being placed on administrative leave. Rev. Kurt Gamlin of Aldersgate also declined to comment, but asked that church members pray.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement, “The allegations against Mr. Ratcliff are very disheartening. Child pornography is not a victimless crime. The sad truth is that thousands of images depicting child pornography are distributed over the Internet each day. Each one of these photos is a victim of child pornography.”

Yes, what about the children, isn’t that what they always say about law-abiding gay folks who want to adopt kids, for instance? The accused child porn devotee and “lay leader” at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wheaton sadly fits the perv template like a T:

A graduate of Moody Bible Institute and the University of Georgia, he received a masters in educational psychology at Michigan State. Married with three children, he has served as the pastor of a Southern Baptist Church and worked for a missionary Christian radio station for several years.

What we won’t see is coverage on professional anti-LGBT sites making blanket assumptions about Christians as perverts — nor should they or anyone else — but they will be silent about cases like this, while demonizing the entire LGBT community day in and day out, often charging them with wanting to destroy marriage, children, society, and bombastically, even civilization.

Perhaps they need to look into the mirror. What about the children?
