It’s nice to see a bigot get a taste of his own medicine. As you may have heard, the “don’t say gay bill” legislator in Tennessee, State Senator Stacey Campfield, was booted out of a restaurant in Knoxville, The Bistro at the Bijou, by the owner for his recent remarks about gays and the origin of AIDS.
“When I saw him at the front door, I told him to leave,” [Owner Martha] Boggs said Monday. “It’s just my way to show support for the gay community and stand up to somebody I think is a bully. He’s really gone from being stupid to dangerous. I think he needs to know what it feels like to be discriminated against.”
Campfield responded with a blog post comparing himself to Jesus Christ and to the civil-rights demonstrators of the 1960s.
“Unfortunately some people do not let facts get in the way of their prejudice,” he wrote. “I guess some people still support segregation. Just segregation of thought.”
Wow. That’s balls. Nice touch for a lawmaker trying to ensure that LGBT Tennesseans don’t have the same rights that he has.
David Pakman had Campfield come onto his show to hear how he felt about his “civil rights being violated.” Like Patrick ‘glory holes/diaper pastor’ Wooden, Campfield breezily confirms his obsession with butt sex, as if this has anything to do with things like, oh, equality in public access for LGBTs, civil marriage or employment non-discrimination laws. By the way, NOW, after his incident at the Bistro at the Bijou, Campfield thinks LGBTs shouldn’t be denied public access. How big of him. David:
I just interviewed TN state senator Stacey Campfield. He said an incredible amount of stuff:
1) He admitted to getting kicked out of lesbian-owned restaurant and is saying he MIGHT BE PROTECTED BY CIVIL RIGHTS ACT;
2) He says so-called homosexuality in the animal kingdom is just “dominance,” kinda like S&M, and not real homosexuality;
3) He goes into detail about anal sex, and explains why he is obsessed with it when I ask him…
The bad press about Campfield really started heating up last week after an interview with Mike Signorile. As usual, Mike let the bigoted guests expose the fact-challenged foolishness on the air.

I had an email exchange with this guy. He is not a moral person. He’s quite aware that the information he’s putting out there is completely false, and without any rational or scientific support. In addition, he is aware that it’s all irrelevant to the issue of equality. He doesn’t directly address any of these concerns to me, or anyone else, just keeps repeating the same old canards and red herrings wherever he goes. He’s a christian conservative who has been well schooled in the principle of lying for jesus.
more like segregation of LACK of thought.
He has the right to his opinion, but facts outweigh opinions. They are not equals, they are not interchangable, they are not both equally valid.
if the religious right tries to make a fuss of this situation, then they would be hypocrites. You see in opposing pro-gay laws in terms of employment and such, they argue that business owners should be allowed to make decisions based upon their “deeply held personal beliefs.” And in this case, it may be that a business owner had a “deeply held personal belief” that he/she wouldn’t serve homophobes.
His civil rights were violated????? Let him please explain what rights of his were violated. Was he evicted from the restaurant based on his race, creed, religion, national origin or gender? No, not at all. And, those are the only choices. If a place of business can legally post those signs stating rules like “No shirt, no shoes, no service”, then I see no reason why someone can’t be denied service for bigotry.
Jesus Christ ,really ?
Clowns like this think JC was some blond haired, blue eyed white guy among all the brown people of the Middle East.
Should also read No Brain. I loved it when I first read this. Thanks Pam
“He says so-called homosexuality in the animal kingdom is just “dominance,” kinda like S&M, and not real homosexuality.”
OK, and so? Humans are part of the animal kingdom. We have dominance, S&M, as well as homosexuality. I guess I’m missing the point where we shouldn’t recognize this rather than trying to suppress it. Seems kind of obvious to me — and pretty fun, if you’re into it. You know, like anal sex.
Here’s the sick part about his claim that he might be covered under the Civil Rights Act. It covers discrimination based on religion, and he’s going to claim that it was his religious beliefs about homosexuals that was the basis of his being denied service.
The obvious response is that it was not his beliefs or his profession of his beliefs, but his legislation (that is, his behavior) that was the basis for his treatment.
Will this action really help turn this guy’s constituents against him? It will likely help him get reelected. Besides, booting someone out of a public place because of his or her views doesn’t seem like a good idea. There’s got to be a better way to deal with narrow-mindedness.
Knox, maybe it isn’t ABOUT turning constituents around. Maybe it is about a business owner refusing service to someone they cannot in good conscience allow into their business.
Kind of like how I would turn away Fred Phelps, Rick Santorum or Herb Cain or $arah Palin, if it were my restaurant.
You’d turn them away? You wouldn’t ask them, “Do you want that with spit, or without?” And just leave them wondering. Not that I’d encourage that, of course.
And you’d likely be turned away from their restaurants. Now that’s the kind of country I’d like to live in, one in which we’re all ejecting each other from restaurants based on others’ personal views.
There’s got to be a better way of dealing with an elected official who knows he can get reelected by saying over and over that he loves guns and hates gays.
Wrong. People who actively encourage hatred and bias need to be called out. The KKK members have personal views. How different is State Senator Stacey Campfield?
This guy hates gays, so he goes to a restaurant called “Bistro at the Bijou”? For Brunch? On Gay Street? He’s a regular? I don’t get it.
He’s only got a problem with gays when they want respect. He doesn’t have a problem with us as long as we’re cutting his hair, washing his poodle or cooking his eggs benedict.
Can’t he just un-nail himself from his cross long enough to go somewhere else? That’s what he expects you guys to do for a lot of things. What an ass clown.
He’s a family-values Republican, who stresses anti-gay legislation as his main issue, and you wonder why he patronizes gay-owned establishments?
Cruising, obv.
