Yeah, we can talk about how Newt went ballistic and blamed the media for asking about his wandering pee-pee and alleged open marriage request of wife #2, or how Rick Santorum finally located his #clownballs and pummeled Romney and Newt mercilessly in a desperate attempt to remain relevant, but it was Mittens, poor little Mittens, who stunk up the joint at the CNN Debate held in Charleston, SC Thursday night.
No wonder the GOP is looking for the anyone-but-Romney candidate (and there’s no electable alternative in the Clown Car) — he is a train wreck of vulnerabilities at this point, and his religion offending the fundies is the least of his problems.
1. He had no coherent answer about why he has not released his taxes (past or present). And that’s in spite of ample warning that this was going to come up. His basic defense was that he’ll do it in April (maybe), and that anyone harping on it is just jealous that he’s successful (he blamed Dems when it is his own partymates going after him). You know it’s bad when the fire-breathing South Carolina audience booed his @ss.
2. The epic #FAIL at trying to portray himself as a regular guy. This is Mittens’ second go-round at running for president, and he (or his handlers) haven’t found a way for him to not look like a filthy rich corporate raider who doesn’t have a clue about how most Americans live. It’s particularly acute because there are so many people who are long-term unemployed, have lost their homes — and these were part of the middle class that probably voted GOP in the past. But alas, Romney continues to step in a flaming hot steaming pile of cow dung over and over, and even “improving” on his performance. Tonight’s classic is full of win.
He said that “only he has lived on the ‘Real Streets’ of America.”
What. The. F? Take a look at the mean, real streets of MittensWorld.
It’s like, why bother trying to make the “I’m just like you” case? Repeatedly? Offensively.
Oh, and his new spin when this comes up is that it’s about envy or jealousy because he is successful, thus confirming his massive wealth, hidden in offshore accounts, makes him not like 99% of us. #FAIL. His crew has to come up with something better than “oh, you’re starting that old ‘class warfare’ meme!” when food banks can’t meet the demand, and yes, as Mittens has said, the foreclosures should just run their course.
And that’s why there’s panic about Mittens…and the rise of Newt “open marriage” Gingrich. What a clown car:

That clip of Gingrich highlights a double standard in American politics. A republican (the party of “family values”) can cheat on multiple spouses and it’s okay, just listen to the cheering. But if a democrat did the same their campaign would take a major hit and possibly be dead. What’s particularly heinous in this case is Gingrich was cheating at the same time he was chastising President Clinton. Mr Gingrich, the question was not “despicable”, your behavior was.
Richie Rich.
A republican (the party of “family values”) can cheat on multiple spouses and it’s okay, just listen to the cheering.
For Republicans, words speak louder than actions.
Is the current heat about wealth mostly b/c of the times and unemployment? Mitt’s cluelessness? We have certainly seen other wealthy candidates, JFK, Kerry, Rockef….but this is a new level of ridicule and “you don’t get it.” What other factors?
Mitt intends to relese only his 2011 return, which will be scrubbed. His investment income is taxable at 15%, but he should be paying the higher rate on any speaker fees, and should also be paying self-employment tax on that income.
What will this idiot say next? “I’ve got skin in the game (taxes), but my skin is just worth more per ounce than the skin of ordinary Americans.”
But, if Gringrich should ever lie under oath, he’ll be just like Clinton.
Yet unlike Edwards Gingrich married his paramour. Shouldn’t you be applauding Gingrich’s womanizing and subsequent rehabilitation?
Well actually, his skin is worth considerably more than most. I’m guessing he pays more dollars in taxes than anyone here, by a large margin.
I couldn’t see, but did the Mittster have diamonds on the soles of his shoes? For traction while he’s walking on those streets of gold in the “real streets of America”.
So refreshing for you to always have an opposing or minority point of view. What fun for you….
Willard is merely repeating the theme of Acres of Diamonds, a classic of the “Gospel of Wealth” genre.
One nation under God, so why did he move millions to the Caymans? To cheat God?
And he did it while God was distracted watching Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Sneaky, no?
Romney lived on the real streets of America. Right. Park Avenue!
Just because someone pays more in taxes doesn’t make it right. What is right is a progressive tax where the richer pay more as a percentage of their income. Why? Because a) they can afford it since all that extra income is not needed to keep them or their children (or children’s children) in the money for the rest of their lives, and b) because any society that wants to have more people moving out of poverty and providing good, needed services has to have a progressive tax or it stagnates (morally and economically) and falls apart. You end up with a ruling elite no different from medieval royalty who feel they have the right to everything and you that aren’t royalty have the right to nothing. You can disagree with that but you’d be dead wrong.
Another point is that the moral worth of a person is not based on how much money they have or make (especially when they inherited much of it). Again, such ideas are the same as royalty used to maintain their immoral power. They ruled with the authority of God, supposedly, but really just maintained it through massive illegally obtained wealth and the practice of might makes right. It is more difficult for the rich to get into heaven than it is for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle.
For you to suggest such, and you did, means your own morals are questionable at best or just plain bad, troll.
A little known fact about Romney is that he was the inspiration for N.W.A.’s hit song “Straight Outta Compton”.
Again and again and again…. Of course there were all the blowjobs on the side from friends wive’s and others but that’s not sex /s. Let’s not forget the family values hypocrisy while lecturing Clinton and keeping his own picadillos in the closet. Such an amazing hypocrite–perfect for the Chritianistas to identify with as they are all raging hypocrites hiding behind the robes of Christ to confuse the soft in the head. Of course the real deal of Newt is he was so obnoxious as House Leader that his own caucus in the House kicked him out of the speakership then he was fined for some violations of House rules, as I recall.
What an assclown from the clown car. Is there no one to give the oligarch’s smooth talking toady at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave a run for his money?
Appears to be: NO. My Magic 8 Ball Sez: get used to 4 more crapulous years with lying Barry pretending to be “in charge.”
Recidivism is common, and Gingrich has display much recidivism.
Can you prove he’s reformed? The lovely Callista will never be tossed to the curb for another beautiful 30 year old?
Behind every fortune lies a great crime.
Yeah: let’s defend GingRICH’s massive cheating on numerous wives because somehow GingRICH “attoned” for his sins, so it’s all good. Doug Coe’s “Family” of “christiany” types can now be duly directed to vote for GingRICH bc Jeebus sez it’s ok, but don’t forget to continue yer raging & tirading about Monica giving Clinton blow jobs because that’s *different.* Got it? Sky Jeebus don’t like Monica giving Clinton blow jobs, but Sky Jeebus heartily approves of Calista giving GingRICH blow jobs for six years while he was married to Wife #2.
Got it??
Oh, and lest I forget: I am an abject SERF who has not paid as much money in taxes as either GingRICH or Willard, so therefore I should bow and scrape before them in awe of how much better they are than horrid miserable despicable moi (who clearly is a lazy slacker who doesn’t work hard enough yadda yadda blah blah blah).
Did I get enough of Dittoheaded Limpballs talking points in there???
True, unlike Newtie, Edwards could not rise to the level of a sociopthic Narcissist like Newt and divorce his wife while she was recovering from cancer (still in the hospital), to marry his current fling. That was the first one. The second seemed to not be on board with the whole “open marriage” thing that the family Values party seems to practice with such abondon while telling everyone else its evil. So, Newt dumped her uncooperative ass. Yeah, Newts a real poster boy for Repuglican “Family Values”. Good to see who your heros are, shootie.
In strict terms most every candidate is wealthy. But one thing the Kennedys, Rockefellers and even the Kerrys (Heinzes) pounded home was their commitment to the common good. Yes, yes, yes, I know that Rockefellers have a legacy of robber-baroning etc., and certainly Joe Kennedy was no saint. But at the same time, John D. Rockefeller was almost singlehandedly responsible for the creation of many of America’s great National Parks. And the later Kennedys managed to frame their political ambitions as “public service.” Romney seems entirely unable to do that. As a result, there is lots of focus on his wealth. Is he doing anything with it besides accumulating it for his offspring?
While I think that any idiot could just read the words, maybe Romney can’t say them because he truly doesn’t think that anyone but the wealthy should have anything. jesus, few men were more wealthy than W, but even he was able to come off as somthing of a commoner. Was it just the accent?
The Rockefellers and Kennedys at least understood that if you were going to make millions on the backs of others or thorugh inheritances, at least balance the karmic scales a bit by paying it forward. It seems that the Republican wealthy of today don’t get that. Maybe its because they fear losing the “mean & heartless” wing that now controls the party. I dont think Mitt sees himself in Messianic terms like W. And I dont think he believes the eliminationist rhetoric. I just think he sees his job as a CEO to keep the major shareholders happy. And in his mind the only major shareholders are the wealthy. If its possible, I think he’s just ignorant of stuff beyond boardrooms, as opposed to scornful like so many GOPers of today.
GingRICH has already been scanning the crowds for Wife #4, and it’s nearly inevitable that he’ll turf out Calista for a much younger trophy wife arm candy sometime in the near future.
An old horndog like GingRICH is hardly going give up his ways at this point, esp with “constituents” who’ll go along with it bc GingRICH claims to be a “Republican.” And as we all well know: IOKYAR.
blah blah blah
How many rehabilitations does one get? Newt did the same thing to 2 wives. I guess rehabs and redemption are only acceptable if you are a Repub
The only time Mittens ever saw The Real Streets Of America was when he was doing his mandatory Mormon proselytizing work.
Contrast that with another guy who was born to wealth, Mark Dayton:
Oh, and yes, the far-right freakshow known as the Minnesota Republican blogging contingent tried to claim that “no records existed” to prove he did this (which is why when you Google “mark dayton schools” the first page is filled with their smears as they link to each other in order to baffle Google), but when the NYC school system sent one of them his records, even the one who started the smear had to admit that he did indeed teach 9th-grade science in New York City during one of the toughest times to do so.
I am pretty disgusted with what John Edwards did for many reasons, but I certainly don’t dance around on the head of a pin trying to parse out why – somehow now – Edwards is *displaying* some kind of moral superiority, despite his cheating on his wife.
Yet you do make a point. For all that Edwards did, he did not abandon Elizabeth to rush off with Wife #2. Not much, but something. My understanding is that Edwards may be marrying the mother of the child they had together. But of course, “conservatives” will find something very wrong & morally reprehensible about that, whilst still tying themselves into knots “justifying” Gingrich’s behavior as being morally “superior.”
ptoui!!
Callista is smart enough to keep demanding all that Tiffany jewelry. Newt’s first 2 wives were left with nothing. In the case of his first marriage, he didn’t pay his child support and his wife had to rely on the church to help out and I believe she was on that awful government aid. The man is beyond contemptible.
With the rich republicans i think it is a clown FUV rather than a clownTown car.
Well, we know that lying under oath isn’t THAT big a deal if you are Republican. Scooter Libby’s conviction was panned throughout the Con media as “so what. so he lied to a Grand Jury.”
And I don’t really see where The Newtered One has rehabbed. He is a serial cheater. If he’s not cheating on Stepford Wife, it’s only because he’s now completely repugnant.
I’m guessing he’s raped more people from a monetary viewpoint than anyone here either.
Quite the contrarian, a disciple of rush.
I believe he did that proselytizing in France .
Callista seems to have Newt on a short leash. I doubt that he is allowed to go to the restroom alone. She’s not going to give him any opportunity to scout for wife #4.
Also new in Mittens’ “jealousy” arsenal: move to North Korea!
I agree, the man is beyond contempt. BUT, Callista, now there’s a woman who “learns from the mistakes of others”. She’s got HER share of the marital assets in gold and diamonds. She ain’t no dummy.
Yup, Romney made the streets of Paris meaner than they would have been without him there. As evidence, I put forth the manner in which he treated the 99%er question yesterday and the way that he treated his dog. At least Obama is nice to his dog and he is respectful to people he meets on the street, no matter how big of an asshat they appear to be (Joe the Plumber comes to mind).
Both Mitt and Newt have taken some pretty devastating “body blows” this week. I suppose that Saturday will tell a lot about the people of SC. One has to admit, they have a pretty big task deciding here just who is the least worst candidate.
I predict that Romney defeats Gingrich by 2% points amd I lock-in that answer.
Edwards could have VERY LIKELY been president except for the “Rielle Hunter” incident. Oh well.
[stereotype alert]
To the voters there, Mitt is the slick Yankee who talks you out of your money. Newt is affable southerner who sleeps with your wife, but that’s her fault, not Newt’s, and you can beat her for it later. [/stereotype]
Newt gets it by an eyelash.
“Yankee carpetbagger” versus “next door neighbor who bangs your wife”……I admit, it’s a tough one to call. See ya’ here on Monday.
Don’t try to parse it–you know that you are parsing the subject. You also know that the point is he pays a lower PERCENTAGE than most of us on this list, while making gobs more money. Why do you want to be like that, anyway? Are you paid to do it? I don’t think that you are stupid, but I could be proven wrong about that. So what is it? What is your motive? Why are your comments so inane and pointless? Really, I want to know what motivates you.
Pam said,
“…he (or his handlers) haven’t found a way for him to not look like a filthy rich corporate raider who doesn’t have a clue about how most Americans live.”
What makes you think he cares about how average Americans live or how he is portrayed to the American people?
He only needs to be attractive to the PTB…
I am still hoping for a landslide for Stephen Colbert, er, Herman Cain. Jeesh, I bought the popcorn already.
The question about the open marriage is absolutely pertinate.
It relates directly to his credibility and character.
Both of which he has none.
“affable”??? Have they changed the definition of that while I wasn’t looking?
In my dreams, I get to cast a vote for Colbert.
Srsly, I mean, has the man lied to *Congress*? If not, no problemo.
I used to think “diamonds on the soles of her shoes” (Paul Simon song) referred to wealth. It does not (which I only learned after taking a cross country trip by train). It refers to being able to change the direction of your path whenever you choose.
Williard will “win” just like he did in Iowa.
The money boyz would never have permitted Edwards to “win,” no matter what.
I’m sure Rielle Hunter was somehow masterminded to be in Edwards’ “path.” And I’m sure the PTB jumped for joy when she ended up pregnant.
I hold Edwards 100% responsible for what he did, but I think it was a set up.
Edwards’ current trial for so-called campaign contribution violations is yet another deliberate blow against Edwards, bc the 1% absolutely want him *silenced* and put on “ice.”
It’s too bad, but I doubt that Edwards would’ve “won,” no matter what. Just like how Al Gore “lost” in 2000, if you get my drift….
Too bad I don’t watch TV, I’m starting to think the Repubs would have a hit show on their hands if they were only willing to have weekly debates.
I keep thinking Ron Paul is going to benefit from the crazy, but somehow I suspect this will be Newt’s day in the sun, and Mittens takes a big hit for being an obvious rich white guy that destroyed good American jobs and hides his wealth offshore so he can cheat on his taxes.
I am not trying to defend Edwards as much as contrast the absolute disingenuous asshattery of Shoorter246 when he tries to conflate Newt with Edwards. Edwards is the story of a man who came from a modest background and worked his way up, accomplishing some good along the way, then falling down. Whether as a trial lawyer against CORPORATIONS on behalf of wronged PEOPLE, or as a congressman, and even Presidential Candidate in 2007 who cause Barry-0 to re-craft his lying more to the left when Edwards pushed the “two-Americas” theme.
Newt, by contrast, well, he has still not crawled out of the ooze he was spawned within. I find nothing redeeming about the man. He was shit, he is shit, he will always be shit. Entertaining shit, but shit nevertheless.
