Racism in the GOP? Nah… just class from the state of Fred Phelps and the personal email of Rep. Mike O’Neal, via Pat Cunningham of the Rockford Register Star:
Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal, from the city of Hutchison, sent an email before Christmas that compared the president’s wife to the Dr. Seuss character The Grinch, with a tagline asking: “Twins separated at birth?”
“I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing Mrs. YoMama a wonderful, long Hawaii Christmas vacation — at our expense, of course,” the forward read.
But wait, there’s more…
In another of O’Neal’s emails, he referenced Psalm 109 from the Old Testament, which reads in part:
May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes.
May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.
May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children.
O’Neal wrote: “At last — I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president! Look it up — it is word for word! Let us all bow our heads and pray. Brothers and Sisters, can I get an AMEN? AMEN!!!!!!”
I wonder if he has any black friends he intends to pull out of his @ss to defend his comments?
FYI – demographics of O’Neal’s district (104th) – White: 19,958; Black: 243.

This is unacceptable. I don’t care how mad the GOP got about the things we said about W and his Xanax Queen and her gowns made from the Green Room draperies, this is outrageous racism and must not stand.
Ahh, that good ol’ pray for their death thing in the “Cry for Vengeance” Psalm.
It’s how they roll.
That sort of thing would get you arrested over here, thankfully. Across the pond, it gets you elected.
Racist, classist, xenophobic, homophobic, Islamophobic, misogynistic–the GOP has something for everyone…
Disgusting. I guess we know what’s the matter with Kansas. (I will look forward to hearing that the rest of the legislature ethics this jackass out post haste! — but I won’t hold my breath.)
I detest racists but I want them out in public screaming about how they hate blacks. I believe it turns people off with the exception of their fellow racists. This is better than sneaking around and burning crosses – it shows their faces for the whole world to see.
That is so cruel and repugnant….I hope he gets censured in every way possible…Yet their stinking racism be revealed…..
Absolute disgrace.
now, this is what ndaa was created to suppress.
i trust that the men in black will be arriving to whisk him away to gitmo within hours.
Censured? I hope that he ends up losing his seat.
Naked bigotry, undisguised wishing of harm to the sitting US president… It’s crazy how far they’ve gone off the rails and yet nobody in the traditional media so much as bleats about it.
The media should of course talk about this but what I want is for Democrats to stand up against this sort of thing. If they allow this to be said about THEIR president, there is no hope for them. Remove them from office as fast as possible.
That too….just mightly disappoved….As said above, let this garbage stuff see the light of day….sickening.
As a resident of Kansas, I wouldn’t bet on that.
The Klan was very big in Kansas between the world wars. While the white hoods went away, much of the racism did not.
What a bunch of whiners. Cain had more than a few racist things said about him. Heck, Bush had a book written about his assassination. As for Moochelle, she apparently likes spending large amounts of taxpayer money. Secret parties and all. That’s not a recipe for respect.
Selective outrage just highlights hypocrisy on the left. As always, IOKIYAD.
I swear it appears that you are defending racist, offensive remarks. Why would you want to defend or align yourself with such poison? As the saying goes, You tell me with whom you go, and I will tell you who you are….Implication clear. Did you bring your sheet?
Let us know when you find Michelle Obama praying for a political opponents death. Thanks.
stupid repiglican bullshit.
look in a mirror, shootyourdickoff242.
Racism and death threats are unethical, immoral and unacceptable. Please note that Mike O’ Neal is up for re-election in 2012. Tweeted.
Is that you, Dick Cheney?
Is the Republican Party really a political party, or does it reflect a mental state?
The Republican Party is not a shared ideology, it is a shared psychosis.
You make some pretty serious claims but fail to provide any evidence. Also not a recipe for respect.
Wow look at the bowling ball in a suit. Hatred isn’t learned in Republican circles, it’s
INBRED into them.
Not sure which is worse. A racist white Republican, or a black corporatist sellout ‘Democrat’ President. In the end, no real difference.
Dick’s first, but not only, mistake is the stupid assumption that everyone here is a Democrat and this is a case of two-party sour grapes.
Yep, conservatives are so two dimensional.
That’s sad. It still amazes me in this day and age that someone could or would judge someone on the basis of skin color. There are so many other reasons to like or dislike people.
It’s equally sad that this politician(and others) is cravenly using the fact that people have so little self esteem and so much fear of those that might look, act or feel differently to score political points.
If you have a stick that’s shitty from one end to the other, which end is preferable to grab? Yeah…
As disgusting as they are,
Don’t feed the trolls! On edit: just, “inappropriate” her/him
It’s not a matter of “whining”, it’s a matter of calling someone out when they behave poorly.
Burke’s in his Thoughts on the Cause of Present Discontents (1770): “When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”
You might recognize Edmund Burke as someone considered the father of modern conservatism.
well I have to say this guy needs help and should really rethink what he said and really think that what he said will get more play then the rommney win in iowa.
Oh, they try to sneak around and hide it and then get all pissy when we see through their efforts to hide it. For instance, the “Pray for Obama: Psalm 109″ trick, which has been around a while — it started appearing on the bumperstickers of wingnuts a few months after his inauguration. They figure that no commie atheist liberal ever reads the Bible, see. Little do they know.
Remember how during Bush years the establishment press every so often would dredge up for public shaming (and probably to distract from some other issues) some obscure nutbar, preferably a leftie nutbar, who had wished physical harm of some sort upon the Bushies when he was ranting away in his blog that nobody read until the press found him and shined a million-watt spotlight on him? It would be splashed all over the evening TV news and drive-time radio and anywhere else the average American would be likely to see it. Yet the whole “Pray for Obama” wish for his death movement hasn’t been given anywhere near that sort of coverage.
Hey, guys, how about this:
Keep track of the next place shooter242 shows up in FDL to do his driveby trolling. When he does — and he will, he can’t stay away — ask him why he never bothered to respond to requests for proof of his assertions.
Well played, sir! Save that comment for the next time the troll appears, then confront him with it. He’s a standard driveby troll — he’s not here to have a dialogue, only to disrupt any dialogue.
Damn. Sounds like where I grew up (and left years ago).
Yikes! I wonder if the Bible says anything about karma.
United we stand, divided we fall!
Amen.
I bet he runs around proclaim that he is a Right-To-Lifer.
Ask and ye shall recieve….

And just to round out the hypocrisy fest, here’s a site with dozens, if not hundreds of protesters and death threats toward Bush, that nobody ever saw. Scroll down for the pictures.

As always, IOKIYAD
Let’s start with your first link
I know you like to call the media liberal but a media analyst is not anywhere near the same as a public servant.
Second link
Was actually the only example you gave that was comparable. I condemn the kentucky governor too. It’s okay to not like a political opponent. It’s distasteful to joke about their demise.
Third link
What does a WH party have to do with anything?
Fourth link
I’d cross that site off of my list of reliable sources. He’s incorrect. People were arrested for protesting Bush.

(These folks were wearing t shirts and were later vindicated.)

It took me less than 5 minutes to find those links by the way. So zombietime guy must have had his brain eaten.
Where is FireDogLake and what have you done with it? I swear I was reading a comment thread here from the AZ Repulsive (“Republic”) online. Shitter242 needs some therapy.
Now how many people were apologists after those statements were made, like yourself?
These are supposed to be community leaders. When they behave like barbarians it normalizes it, and signals the bigots that they can put on their sheets, or take their guns and beer to the border for target practice.
Here’s another. It’s not racism, it’s just tacky and hateful.
Look at this slouch’s picture.
In order for Michele Obama to measure up to Nancy Reagan’s “Just say No” anti drug campaign,
She would have to arrange to have kids fed twinkies behind our backs.
Just like Nancy’s husbands Administration oversaw the CIA introduce crack cocaine into black neighborhoods, and ship it in by the planeload. That was a “serious” project, for sure. I don’t even remember what Bush the younger’s wife did, besides commission Christmas tree ornaments.
I just finished this at wiki on Virgil Pecks controversial statement.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgil_Peck,_Jr.#Controversies
This is related because the Speaker, the subject of this diary- Mike O’Neal – excused him.
Oh, he’s a longtime driveby troll who’s finally discovered the existence of PHB. As you can see, he hates being made to defend, much less prove, the stuff he spews.
Good catch!
So why, if Herman Cain was nothing more than the GOP’s token black male candidate, was he penalized for his alleged extramarital peccadillos while Newt Gingrich, who committed adultery against at least two of his three wives (he was boinking Wife-#2-To-Be Marianne while Wife #1 Jackie was in her hospital bed, and getting freaky with Wife-#3-To-Be Callista when Marianne developed MS) got a free pass? Gee, it’s almost as if the GOP was looking for a reason not to have to let Cain advance very far, eh?
It’s no wonder that black political commentators are comparing the harsh treatment Cain got from white Republicans to that received by former RNC Chair Michael Steele. (Steele was officially bounced for having the temerity to spend lots of money in an election year, but what likely was the biggest factor for Republican leaders and their corporate sponsors was his debunking the carefully-nurtured lie that the GOP’s use of the corporate-bigot “Southern Strategy” alliance ended when Nixon left office.)
Really? Why am I not surprised. It’s bad enough that the Republicans can’t disagree in a civil manner, but now they have to take the Bible out of context and pray for ill will to happen to the President and call the First Lady out of her name? There are more things that divide us in this country than unite us. Still, in 2012, we haven’t gotten to the point that we can be the “United States of America”. If there is anyone that thinks that racism isn’t alive and well, please think again.
The thing that is bothersome more than any thing else that has happened recently is the talking points Gingrich started some time ago- denigrating your opponent; that has really gotten out of hand.
I was listening to a nun talk about research done about the rise of Hitler.
It started eerily similar.
The local Germans kept looking to their leaders for the appropriate response to what was being said and done. And since it was condoned, they went along with it.
And wow, did the hatred death snowball.
We really need to keep up the pressure to bring back civility and respect.
It is often very hard to keep a civil tongue when one hears filth being espoused!
This be Kansas, as in “What’s Wrong with It”

We worked our little tails off to get Jack Mace elected but still lost nearly 2 to 1.
