The right wing handles the use of the race card in such a vapid and preposterous manner that it indicates just how they view blacks they promote to high-profile status — figureheads and tokens that the right has no problem burning if the House Negroes themselves dare discuss racism within the GOP.

This Herman Cain story has moved so far into the absurd and offensive that it makes you wonder how the man could take leave of his senses at this level — did the Godfather’s Pizza magnate really think this sexual harassment hot mess wouldn’t come back to bite him in the ass? The latest in the Clown Car saga is that Cain’s wife plans to stand by her man now that one of the women accusing the presidential candidate of harassing her (and received a year’s pay as a settlement) wants to go public.
Sorry, I forgot about the enormous egos of some of these pols — they are so used to getting strokes and deference (think John Edwards and boatloads of Republican sexual hypocrites) that they think they can get away with just about anything and there’s always someone who will clean up their messes and keep their piehole shut.
That’s why it’s offensive to see Herman Cain try to do a Clarence Thomas and claim that his status as a black conservative is what caused this “smear” of his character, even as the man changes his story about what he knew and when he knew it on the hour. (The Daily Beast/Michelle Goldberg):
Suddenly, the right sees the “institutional racism” that Coulter disparaged everywhere. “Look at how quickly what is known as the mainstream media goes for the ugliest racial stereotypes they can to attack a black conservative,” Limbaugh said on Monday. “I Declare Politico’s Attack On Herman Cain Racist,” blared a headline on RightWingNews.com. On Fox and Friends Tuesday morning, guest host Peter Johnson Jr. alluded to Clarence Thomas, saying, “[M]aybe this is a high-tech lynching that Politico engaged in.”
This is an absurd charge. Herman Cain is currently leading the Republican polls. If he wants to be treated as a serious candidate—something that’s not entirely clear, given his lack of a campaign staff in Iowa and New Hampshire—he’s going to be subjected to serious scrutiny. When a major presidential candidate has been accused of sexual harassment, and when his accusers have received financial settlements as a result of their complaints, that’s news. Indeed, that’s so obvious it seems absurd to have to write it. Just imagine, after all, how much decorousness we could expect from Fox if such a scandal were discovered in Obama’s past…It’s not really surprising that the right, usually so dismissive of prejudice against African-Americans, has been so quick to cry racism. The modern conservative movement emerged in large part in opposition to the civil rights revolution.
Yeah, it’s not hard to imagine the reaction of the right if Obama was in that situation. Cain is fair game. And the last time I checked, a person’s race doesn’t have anything to do with a man’s professional behavior (or lack thereof) around female employees.
And Ann Coulter. I hate to waste bandwidth on this woman, but once she tossed out “our blacks are so much better than their blacks” I had to say something.
Coulter agreed that the Cain story is a “high-tech lynching,” adding that “it’s coming from the exact same people who used to do the lynching with ropes, now they do it with a word processor.”
She continued that liberals are “too dense” to see the “many wonderful qualities” about Herman Cain, because “all they see is a conservative black man.”
“That’s why our blacks are so much better than their blacks,” Coulter said. “To become a black Republican you don’t just roll into it. You’re not going with the flow. You have fought against probably your family members, probably your neighbors, you have thought everything out and that’s why we have very impressive blacks in our party.”
First of all, I’d love to know how many black friends she has (not just some tools she rubs shoulders with at conservative galas) – friends of the heart-to-heart variety. Usually when anyone shoots bullsh*t out of their mouths like the above statement, it’s pretty clear the only black “friends” she has are of the self-loathing kind.
Does Herman Cain fit into Coulter’s category of one of her better blacks? I’m sure Thomas Sowell’s on that list. After all, he recently made the preposterous claim that Cain was essentially more authentically black than Barack Obama:
“My gosh, he is certainly one of us far more so than Barack Obama. Raised in Hawaii and going to a private school, an expensive private school.”
After all, Cain came to the same race-aroused conclusion:
Ticking off ways he could compete with Obama, Boortz says that Cain would be able to talk about the black experience in America.
Cain’s response: “[Obama's] never been a part of the black experience in America.”
The bold and pathetic use of the race card in these instances only serves to underscore how illogical and grotesque the right is when it handles the issue.
The bottom line is that the conservative movement can only go so far in embracing black conservatives because the socially conservative base has proven it will turn on a dime when the House Negro shows a spine. Look at the racial hellfire directed at Cain when he dared to challenge Rick Perry’s honesty about the “N*ggerhead” debacle.
The black conservative is still the lawn jockey in that movement. An ornament, a decoration for show. Look at the ridiculous term of Michael Steele as head of the RNC. That was a #FAIL a minute.
I wish it weren’t that way, quite frankly. The conservative movement is still in the grips of the religious right, the teabaggers and outlandish bigots, nativists and racists and apparently sees them all as useful idiots because they can rally and get out the vote. It’s a lot harder to sever those relationships than to actually court blacks, Latinos and people of color from a conservative perspective.
So Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh et. al. can continue to pretend in public that they know more about the black experience (whatever that means), and pull out their tokens who have proven they are willing to subject themselves to public humiliation. After all, the “good blacks” are unable to publicly question color-aroused statements like Coulter’s if they want to stay in the good graces of the conservative fold.

Can we bring out the lapdog for his photo op? Good boy. Back to your corner now.
Coulter put so much effort into making her soundbite catchy and memorable, she forgot the basic stuff: like, not soiling yerself in public.
Conservatives always pull this we-are better-than-those-liberals bullshit. They claim that conservative women are generally more attractive than liberal women, they claim that gay conservatives are more macho than liberal gays, they claim that male conservatives are the embodiment of “real men”. Now they have moved on to black conservatives.
It is a confidence issue on their part
This sounds like 12 year old boys – mine’s bigger than yours. This would be just plain silly if we were not talking about the highest office in the land. And that makes it scary. And I’m sick of the race card thing.
That part is definitely true. Conservative female shills are chosen for their looks. Other lil wimmin (think Hillary) are chosen bc they are smart enough to obey orders.
You just know that Spermy Hermie would love to have Sarah as his
materunning mate. And given what came out in the recent book about her appetites I’m sure that she would love to give it a twirl.Coulter’s blatantly false accusation: “it’s coming from the exact same people who used to do the lynching with ropes, now they do it with a word processor.”
Southern conservative white men were mostly the ones doing the lynching, dumbshit. As Ms. Spaulding pointed out, “The modern conservative movement emerged in large part in opposition to the civil rights revolution.” …and the cons’ supporters are still fighting dirty to keep minorities down.
Including Coulter may be relevant or necessary, but somehow feels like scraping the bottom of the barrel…the less time/print given to her the better, imho….along with Ingraham, T. Bruce, et al….Actually, I guess I really think she is irrelevant…just one more nut who doesn’t merit quoting….
It would appear that there is big money on Cain, starting with the Koch-head brothers. It seems the big money is in love with the 999 plan, that would give them a huge tax decrease. I don’t imagine that 9% sales tax on “everything” includes: stocks, bonds, land, commercial property, commoditities futures, mutual funds, etc., all the things that rich people “buy” with their money.
I think the big money has concluded that Romney will cause the bible-thumper dummies to stay home, and Perry is just too crazy, even for Republicans, so they’ve doubled down on Cain. Expect all the usual fascist mouthpieces to defend this guy, he looks like he’s received the big cash and blessing from our new co-emperors, Charles and David Koch.
Herman Cain. n. syn. Barack Obama.
What’s the difference? They both want to take everything from me and mine in order to line their own and their corporate masters’ profits. At least Cain really IS a corporate master. I guess that makes him more honest, anyway.
I always doubted the seriousness of the country music industry for the same reason, is there any of the female country singers that are not knockouts?
Rock/Pop may be under represented by women, but the ones that make it don’t necessarily make it on their looks.
Our black is better than your black. How sickening and just plain stupid! Oh yeah, we’ve come a long way baby. NOT!!
The silly thing about it is that I have no doubt the revelations about Cain came from one of the GOP candidate’s oppo research teams, probably Romney’s, and was meant to take Cain down a few pegs, but ended blowing up in their face.
there’s always someone who will… keep their piehole shut.
When the stakes get large, nobody keeps their piehole shut.
Gotta make up for their tinkie winkies somehow…
Coulter is, as usual, being an idiot. I can name exactly three black Republicans: Cain, Michael Steele, and Clarence Thomas–all of whom are scandal-ridden hacks. Of course, we can say the same for a huge number of white Republicans, so Cain probably feels right at home.
Patsy Cline was IMO not a knock out but man what a voice.
Exactly, the implication being that they own blacks (“OUR blacks… “). they can’t even see this bullshit.
Kilgour — Cain has been a Koch-sucker for *years* beginning with his stint as head briber for the American Restaurant Assn.
DrPuma — You can add another UT, Ken Blackwell, who as Ohio’s Secretary of State and head of Ohio’s Bush campaign, pulled a Katheryn Harris. He forced the state to buy a limited number of Diebold touch-screen voting machines, “conveniently” failing to disclose the fact he held Diebold stock.
To make a long story short, Blackwell left the office in a literal mess and it took Jennifer Brunner almost a year to put the office back on a professional level.
had the very same thought (re: Patsy Cline) that’s talent and not merely a pretty face.
but I’m not well-educated on what has-or-will happened/be happening in the country-music scene. my listening tastes are much too far-ranging eclectic and obscure
If you idiots COULD put race aside, but being the liberals you are I am sure that is impossible…..let’s hear your take on, oh gee, Ted Kennedy, William J. Clinton, John Edwards, or heck, how about your beloved JFK? Just to name a few.
Hypocrisy within the Democrat/Progressive/Liberal camp is rampant.
But, of course, you will, each and every one of you give those dirty Democrats a pass – I mean, heck, they are Democrats, right? You are all morons.
whoa so everyone to the left of Obama (the most conservative democratic Prez since…Woodrow Wilson?) is ALL of the following:
Democrat
progressive
liberal
…simultaneously and at the same time?
every non-conservative thinks every Democrat president was godlike?
hey, the world i live in gets more than black&white.
It’s great to see that Tucker Carlson’s wee vanity publication, The Daily Caller, has found a story that fits so well in the wheelhouse of their newest cub reporter. Tucker sent Ginni Thomas to interview Herman Cain.
I wonder if she called Anita Hill afterwards.
Name-calling isn’t permitted here.
