This is rich…all of the crazies are jumping in. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who had his 15 minutes of fame for publicly burning the Quran, is running for President.
If you want to bypass the video and get to the meat of his seven-point platform, here it is (from his press release):
Our campaign promises or agenda:
1. Stop overspending immediately. We are now overspending by 4 billion dollars a day.
2. Balance the budget. If this is not done, then we will experience a total collapse of our economy and way of life.
3. Reduce military spending. All military on foreign soil should be brought back immediately and all future involvement of military on foreign soil should not be engaged until our country has become economically strong again. The security of our nation must be reexamined and our military spending must be cut by several billion dollars.
4. Deport all illegals. We must immediately begin the deportation of the 20 million illegal aliens living in our country. This would be an operation similar to what Eisenhower did to provide jobs for the soldiers who were coming home after the war.
5. Also saving us 400 billion dollars per year.
6. Reduce corporate taxes.
Our corporate taxes are the highest in the world. Corporate taxes must be reduced immediately in order to encourage people to start new businesses and existing corporations to expand, thus producing the jobs that are needed.
7. Reduce bureaucracy. We must reexamine the bureaucracy of our government and businesses. We are dying and drowning in bureaucracy, rules and regulations. Companies must be held accountable for the consumer’s protection, but the over-control and overkill that we have is destroying our companies.
I’m not sure how sentence fragment #5 qualifies as an agenda item. Perhaps Pastor Jones can enlighten us about the details.

Let’s see…
1) Reduce spending (i.e. cut Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid/etc… by more than 90% (alternatively, cut them by about 60%, but remove all discretionary spending) but only a few percent off the military).
2) Spend more (to make a forced displacement of 7% of the population). Presumably this means even less on social programs.
3) Reduce the government’s income (which, since “overspending” is an issue, means cutting spending even more.
4) Reduce regulation of the free market – which will mean more bailouts, increasing costs, which means even less on social programs.
Yeah… here’s another person who will never get my vote. I’m not certain that this is theoretically feasible in any macoreconomic model. That much of a reduction in spending (which appears to be well over 1.4 trillion per year from his numbers) would result in drastic reduction in income (since a lot of our income – roughly 860 billion last year – is for those same programs) as well as a depression.

And that’s ignoring the horrific Civil Rights abuses that would occur with attempting to forcibly displace 7% of our population. Or, from the picture that’s given with this agenda, his Muslim-bashing which would likely go along with it.
Well now that Thaddeus McCotter has dropped out of the race, he’s got a real chance…and a book to sell, apparently. Learned that trick from Newt I suppose.
The only “up” side I can see is a return to the days of muttonchops.
