Thanks to last weekend’s “Values Voters” Summit, I am learning that I am not an ordinary gay American.
Apparently I am Darth Vader.
So far the speakers of the supposed Christian rally have said that gays are evil. We are out to destroy America. We are threats to public health.
And we are very, very very unhappy.
Don’t worry. By next week they will attempt to temper their rhetoric by lying about someone who was supposedly discriminated against for furthering the belief that gays are evil, out to destroy America, and public health threats.
Only these charlatans will claim that said fake martyr is being “persecuted” for expressing his/her Christian faith.
This conference is nothing unusual for the gay community. We have come to expect this kind of rhetoric from these folks, so at this point, I find the homophobia only slightly annoying.
But it’s not just the gay bashing that I find annoying; it’s the constant strain of doomsayer rhetoric for which gays are the cause:
“America is at it’s decline.” “We are heading towards the abyss.” “God is going to turn away from us.”
Isn’t that what these losers said last year and the year before that and the year before that?
At what point do we get the simple fact that these folks are not interested in the salvation or preservation of America, but rather the salvation of their status and the preservation of their bank accounts?
They don’t offer solutions and they don’t give hope.
These so-called Christians push lies. They peddle in fear and deceptive talking points all done under the shadow of a supposedly approving deity. Never mind that junk about benevolence and integrity. The God these “Values Voters” serve is a cross between J. R. Ewing from Dallas and Alexis Carrington Colby from Dynasty. Power and the spreading of lies to increase that power rule the day.
They seem to think that Christianity is a capitalist design and that the chapters in the Bible where Jesus told the rich man to sell all of his possessions and follow Him and where Jesus drove the moneylenders out of the Temple were later added via a liberal conspiracy.
In the world of these “Values Voters,” Jesus actually said “pick up your cross and follow me and I will give you a nice car, a nice house, 2.5 kids and a Republican in the White House every four years.” And somehow the empty jargonistic theory of “American exceptionalism” – a bland version of the Master Race theory but still nonetheless nauseating in its audacity – can be reconciled with Jesus’s decree to show love and humility. Or even worse, it’s rationalized so much that gullible folks will think that the empty jargonistic theory of “American exceptionalism” is exactly what Jesus was talking about when he said show love and humility.
Seems to me that if God hasn’t let loose with a huge thunderbolt on America for allowing these characters to soil His (Her) good name, then maybe this country has nothing to worry about when it comes to His judgement.
But that’s not necessarily a good thing. I have a feeling that we will be hearing the same messages of doom from this cast of characters next year, which would prove that maybe God has a strange sense of humor.
SPLC’s report on anti-gay hate groups needs wider audience. Provide it.

Indeed.
Or perhaps Mammon crossed with the spirit of televangelist Tammy Faye Baker.
What we know of the historical Jesus’ was that he lived a model heterosexual lifestyle, there certainly can be no doubt about his sexual orientation. His admonition was clear ‘come follow me’.
Was this after the big debate about the ” Final Muslim Solution” and the Necessary attendant murder, rape and pillage’?
Of course these people don’t believe in science (at least when it does not benefit them – see more later).
But I saw a while back a story about the Genome project that took a sizable crowd and was able to show the various lines of where the demarcations in the history of man broke off. Some lines went to India, then China, while others went to India then to Europe, etc. But they all started in Africa. This was a thorough study. So we all have some Black and Indian blood. So actually the “white race” is a minority!
One black man from NY found out that his gene was burried deep, for his line/ancestory was born in Europe. He of course like everyone else was linked way back to Africa (the burried gene).
As for my comment at the top. Science is not important to the “Right” until it suits them. For example, they state that a fetus begins at “conception”. Without science how do you know this and what is conception? Is it when the first two cells split? If that is true, then are those women who have “sadly” miscarriages are they to be considered ‘abortionists’? And if they are purely Biblical scholars, then should they be sacrificing lamb and goats and stoning more people? Or, should they follow the teachings of John and share part of their spoils with those in need?
Of course these people don’t believe in science
Sheesh, they haven’t even read the book their religion is ostensibly about, much less a science text.
Save some hate for the Bible-thumping dude in the White House who says he prays daily, he hasn’t exactly advocated for gay marriage throughout the land.
Over 450 species engage in homosexual acts but only one engages in homophobia. Which is unnatural?
Gotta love the right, what with its phony Christians (people who call themselves Christians, though they are not – f*cking haters) and its phony grassroots movement (groups that say they are grassroots, though they are not).
Good point.
The one species that engages in homophobia, along with pride, guilt, self-consciousness and many other human conditions makes us different from the “natural” bugs and worms.
Republican fascist warmongering fools bashing gays? This is not news. This is everyday life for them.
Humans also make computers.
Only 2.5 children? A good values voter conservative ought to sire at least twice that number.

Or perhaps General Curtis Le May and Anita Bryant.
Don’t knock Tammy Faye. When she left Jim she became pro-gay, IIRC.
These wankers are the biggest threat to monogamy since the Mormons. Preserve monogamy for all humans, not just these silly people!
And yet – did not John call himself (oddly in the 3rd person…) “The Disciple that Jesus Loved”? Could that have been “code”? Quick! Someone find Dan Brown.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is the progressive equivalent
of Scientology. He’s the United Way of human rights.
take, take, take, live in the lap of luxury and hold a press conference, raise more money, start another campaign.
Perpetual fund raising and misallocated spending.
Morris Dees has been reputed to be a spousal abuser.
You should find better organizations to promote.
@EarthquakeWeather
You are correct. Tammy turned herself around with respect to gay rights post Jim Baker. She became so vocal in her support of gay rights in fact that they held a memorial service for her in a suburb of Atlanta after her death. The loons from Westboro Baptist Church even drove in from under their rock in Topeka to hold a protest at the memorial service.
You need to find some other place to peddle your trash, Zorro. It’s interesting that ever since SPLC called out anti-gay hate groups, someone like yourself comes on the boards and makes all of these charges about the group. That new one about Dees being an alleged spousal abuser is trashy. BTW a lot of these claims comes from racists sites angry at SPLC for calling them out. Concern troll maybe or a wannabe trouble maker.
SPLC calls ‘em as they see ‘em; using quotes and published material to back their findings; unlike, say , the AFA or the FRC who specialise in bigoted fiction that whould do Julius Streicher proud.
