There’s no way that GOP primary voters will allow him to ride to the finish line in the Clown Car.
Former Utah governor and current presidential candidate Jon Huntsman said on Tuesday that as president he would respect the decision of states that legalized same-sex marriage and not seek to override those laws with a federal ban.Speaking to reporters on the day of his campaign launch, Huntsman was asked specifically about the growing likelihood of a same-sex marriage bill being passed in New York. Would he seek to overrule Empire State lawmakers should he end up in the Oval Office?
“I would respect the state’s decision on that,” he replied.

What about other states rights decisions?Would he support, say, a state that decriminalized the use recreational use of marijuana? Or a state that effectively made it a criminal offense to be in public while appearing non-European? What if the state voted to refuse recognition of Mormon marriage? Or chose to ignore the 13th Amendment and reimplemented slavery?

Civil rights and freedom sure doesn’t mean too much to those people, do they? It’s more like children trying to find out how they can get their own way because they think that the universe revolves around them. Unfortunately some people never learn that that’s not the case.

The dude is toastIgnoring the whole issue of ‘states rights’ and failure to comply with equal protection and full faith & credit provisions, not announcing he’s in favor of a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage is yet another kiss of death in today’s GOP.
My point isThat claiming to “respect a state’s laws” on equal marriage does not mean he is an ally.
It’s depressing…… To see an actual moderate (sounding, at least, especially compared to the rest of the clown brigade) GOP candidate and have everyone’s first thought be “He’ll never get through the primaries.”
It’s even more depressing that I think everyone’s right on this.
Don’t be too sad, loveThe old men in Salt Lake City wouldn’t let him keep sounding so moderate if he actually got elected. They’ve been dreaming of a mormon in the White House since Joseph Smith tried for it in 1844.
Which raises the interesting question… As to whether his newfound moderate stance is genuine, or just an attempt to beat Obama by playing to the LGBT minorities that are feeling thrown under the bus by Obama’s failure to come through with everything he promised them in his 2008 campaign.
After all, the GOP has a pretty long history of pandering to (or trying to pander to) minorities around election time just long enough to get into power and then completely ignoring them at best. Granted, it backfired on them spectacularly when the religious right didn’t go away quietly and started taking over the party from within, but…

I was referring to your comments (facetious, I know) about legalizing slavery and suchlike. If these dimbulbs were actually capable of thinking, they’d have thought of that stuff already.
Dont be surprised…if he gets the nomination, and if he does, don’t be surprised if many, many gays vote for him.
