crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters
From my online buddy Jeremy Hooper comes a key to who the National Organization for Marriage is associating with in its game plan to get gay marriage banned in Minnesota.
On the heels of last night's vote to get gay marriage on the 2012 ballot comes the announcing of a webpage done by NOM in coalition with the Minnesota Family Council:
But when looking at the Minnesota Family Council's webpage, one gets the impression that that organization's stance against gay marriage is less to do with “preserving marriage,” but rather adhering to the monstrous stereotypes which lgbts have had to endure for years.
The following inaccurate statistics connecting the lgbt community with bestiality, pedophilia, urine, and feces come from Answers to Gay Rights Arguments, which is included Minnesota Family Council's webpage:
That's right. NOM is partnering with an organization which pushes discredited Paul Cameronesque lies about the lgbt community. And just so you know, the organization does cite Paul Cameron's group – the Family Research Institute – specifically in the section of its webpage called Gay Rights:
You will remember, of course, that the Family Research Institute has been called a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for pushing ugly propaganda against the lgbt community.
The irony of the entire thing is that one of the main complaints/talking points of NOM is that it has been unfairly labeled as a bigoted organization for its stance against gay marriage.
The question here is how can NOM continue to voice this complaint/talking point if it does not disavow the anti-gay lies of its coalition partner?
And we all know that NOM will not disavow these lies.
Folks wishing to donate in order to defeat these lies can go here.

This is a winnable fightAs Mayor Rybak said yesterday, “Be the Minnesota we want to see.” We’re not going to win this one by sinking to their level, but by fighting the best fight we can, and bringing as many friends and allies into the fight as we can.
We know how they operate. But we can win this one. We started this one with control of the narrative, and that’s huge.
And yes, the 32nd state is the 32nd state to consider an anti-marriage amendment. But we are going to be the FIRST state to reject one.
Ten CommandmentsWould anyone care to remind these “Christians” that, according to their Ten Commandments, God has an opinion about bearing false witness against one’s neighbors?
Because we know for a factStraight people never, ever engage in bestiality, pedophilia and other “nasty stuff” like oral and anal sex.
Oh, wait….
It would be a complete waste of time.Jesus, Moses, the Ten Commandments, etc. are their property, in the same way the J.K. Rowling owns harry Potter. They would never for a moment concede that anyone else knows their damn “Good Book” better than they do, or that it is subject to any interpretation other than theirs. You’d get further trying to explain to pigs that they shouldn’t wallow in shit.
That would presuppose that they consider gay people to be their neighbors. And that they are willing to acknowledge that they are lying. After all, authorities they trust more than pesky things like facts have told them all this. And the Internet says so, too.
Missing link.I hold no beefs with the main article, with its claiming that only gays and lesbians engage in such behavior is laughable. Not to mention the terms gay and lesbian don’t exist in the world of pedophilia. Sure, there is a preference with such offenders but there is no such thing as a gay or lesbian pedophile. However, the gay domestic violence finally measured article cited seems to not exist on the the Family Research Institute’s website. 404 error. Which is too bad since there are many, many scholarly articles about the same subject stating that gay and lesbian domestic violence meets or exceeds that of heterosexual couples. I’d of loved to see the undoubtedly inflated numbers.
Something I’ve never seen an answer forRe: point 7 on their little hit list: for years and years the fundie ‘phobes have pushed this tired, false meme that civil rights protections only extend to groups with in-born traits such as race. I have NEVER, not ONCE heard these lying bastards be able to answer the religion question. Contrary to the beliefs of certain monotheistic fundies, religion is generally a chosen trait–no one’s “born” a Christian, for instance, and it’s about “behavior” as much as they believe queerness is. Yet none of them would argue religion shouldn’t be a protected class (well, unless it’s one that’s not theirs, but bear with me here).
Behavioral traits are also protected through various parts of Title VII (ie: pregnancy status, and associating with people who have in-born traits, such as interracial marriage, etc). It’s a complete crock of shit, and it’s also part of why I get so annoyed with how a huge chunk of the mainstream gay rights argument hinges on “gay isn’t a choice!” It’s letting the bastards set the terms of the dialogue based on a blatant lie, not to mention ignoring sexual fluidity, and being totally inadequate when it comes to making the case for gender expression protections, which are just as important.
Ah, but you see…“Religion” per se is not what is protected, as far as they are concerned: only the One True Snake Oil® is protected, and all other competing brands must be suppressed.
That is to say, religion is not a protected class while the Truth® is. Big difference.
Not to mention…that they will use the very same book to point out that lying in the name of a good, noble, and righteous cause is absolutely allowable.
Oh, and pigs only wallow in shit because people don’t bother to clean up the places they confine them to.
Which strikes me as interesting, given the group we’re talking about — from my perspective, wallowing in shit is exactly what they are doing, and we are trying to teach them they shouldn’t.
Pigs are smarter, if’n ya ask me.
