Via Pride in Utah, a horrible teen-on-teen hate crime in Indiana at Silver Creek High School.
![]()
Openly gay high school sophmore Rito Osorio was lured into a school bathroom during lunch by a another 16 year old student and was beaten while his attacker yelled homophobic slurs. The attacker has been arrested, and is claiming ‘rumors’ as the reason for his attack.
The rumor? The basher didn’t like the idea that Rito thought the assailant might be gay. The unnamed thug was taken into police custody; officials do not know if the assailant will be allowed back at that high school.

Yes that’s always the underlying reason for gay bashingI wish these fucking idiots would just go to the school counselor and deal with their damn issues.
But…… that would require admitting that they had issues, which is the more fundamental problem.
Another one….…from my home state of Indiana.
Why do I get homesick once in a while?
Well, at least……unlike me he had the balls to speak up about it.
Yeah that’s another hurdle they have to face
I hope that the perp is charged as an adult for assault and battery, and that he is also charged for a hate crime.
Well this sort of thingis just fine with the Repug Indiana legislature I”m sure.
This is one instancein which I could support a “zero tolerance” policy.

The motive for the attack seems to be “gay panic.” I haven’t been able to find additional information. The TV station did add a list of books about bullying.
I’m surprised this didn’t hit Bilerico or any of our local gay news outlets. I’m in Louisville right across the river in Kentucky from Sellersburg-New Albany-Jeffersontown.
Not my Indiana!
Uh… Having proven itself incompetent to protect Osorio from his assailant on school property, the return of the assailant to school in proximity to Osorio would be grounds for a lawsuit against the school corporation itself for child endangerment.
And here, I had just a week ago e-mailed a southern Indiana Contact Dyke from Lesbian Connection magazine to inquire about the environment down south for LGBT people. Guess I know now.
