Sometimes, it doesn't take much to demonstrate just how nasty and hateful some members of the religious right choose to be.
All you have to do is just give them free reign to talk.
Take for example the recent overturning of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The American Family Association's phony news service, One News Now published the following piece:
Fighting back against sodomized military
A national defense analyst and Pentagon advisor says the new Congress can take a number of actions to blunt the impact of the new law that allows homosexuals to openly display their lifestyle in the U.S. military.
Many pro-military pundits said they were sickened and angered last week when President Barack Obama ended 235 years of wholesome tradition by signing the bill that will effectively sodomize the U.S. military. One of those specialists is Lt. Col. Bob Maginnis (USA-Ret.), who was part of the military working group that helped craft the 1993 homosexual service ban that the lame-duck Congress and President Obama have now overturned.
“You have a very corrupt regime running the country,” he laments. But he expects there to be a backlash when the 112th Congress replaces the lame-duck body that was repudiated by the American people last month.
Where does one start with this one?
Sodomized military? So according to the AFA, the overturning of Don't Ask, Don't Tell means that automatically the American Armed Forces is facing an “epidemic” of butt-sex?
Also, while the article claims that many “pro-military pundits” (which is a bizarre description. Just who are these “pro-military pundits” and does that mean there are “anti-military pundits”) who oppose the overturning of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, it only quotes one person, Maginnis. And while Maginnis may be a former military person, he isn't exactly a legitimate source of information.
He just happens to be with the Family Research Council (another religious right group) as the “Senior Fellow for National Security.” Before being quoted by this article, he said in another article that “America is no better than Sodom and Gomorrah” for allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military.
It's important to remember that the Southern Poverty Law Center has declared both the AFA and FRC as anti-gay hate groups due to their need to demonize and dehumanize the lgbt community. Granted both organizations claim they are being unfairly victimized for “upholding” Christian values.
And they may have a point . . . only if causing a panic about anal sex is a “Christian value.”

“America is no better than Sodom and Gomorrah” Indeed we are not. But as is typical of mythologians, they distort and project their sins onto those they demonize and persecute. Hiding the truth in plain sight is easy when most people suffer under some blend of ignorance and hypnosis.

I know I’m preaching to the choir but in the face of the never ending blizzard of the “Big Lie”, it’s good to take a moment to hold up that which we know to be true.
We need to brace for a lot more of this rotDespite the headlines (and despite what a lot of gay Pollyannas keep insisting) DADT has not been repealed yet, and won’t be until Obama, Gates and the Pentagon are good and ready. Until that happens–and probably for a long time thereafter–the right wing will keep waving every red flag they can find. And of course even when (if?) repeal is a done deal and all their efforts in the courts have failed, they still won’t stop. Repeated court rulings endorsing a woman’s right to choose have not stopped them from screaming about “abortion on demand.” It’s wildly unlikely they’ll let up on this either.
Don’t know if they are coming or goingThese are the same folks who are always complaining about us “jamming our lifestyle down their throat”, right. Sounds to me like they are spending too much time perusing Porno Pete’s bookshelves.
Will someone please tell themthat being openly gay doesn’t mean screwing in public? Chances are extremely good that our gay servicemembers, even the openly gay ones, will be far more discreet about their sexual activities and interests than their straight counterparts.
So TrueI spent eight years in the Navy, six of them on submarines. The one thing an outside observer would notice if they could see a sub underway would be the massive amount of pictures of naked women from Playboy to Hustler and worst. Some were rather gross. I doubt that even if a ship had 10 openly gay men they they would plaster the Engineroom with pictures of naked men, even if they had a large collection. I agree that straight men have a tendency of openly discussing their sexual exploits, or their sexual fantasies. I doubt gay men would even want to top that, risking harassment if they did.

An observationI’ve been watching the brilliant six-hour documentary on the battle over desegregation, Eyes On the Prize.
Every time I read something spew from the sewers coming from these hate groups, they’re no different that the White Citizens’ Councils, and the Klan who fought against equality.
So let’s call a spade a spade, and label these bastards who spew this tripe for what the are: segregationists. Any governor, mayor, or county commissioner who opposes equality a modern-day equivalent of the racists who opposed integrated schools, military, marriage rights, etcetera.
For the record and for AFA’s edification,they and their hateful fundamentalist ancestors are the one’s who sodomized the military over 150 years ago, in accordance with their own buybull:

The Poor MilitaryHow is it that the American armed forces are so remarkably fragile?
That other nations militaries coped just fine, but America’s will collapse into hedonistic depravity.
How is it that the AFA and their ilk can have such disrespect for the soldiers and officers of the country for which they serve; who fight to protect (ostensibly) the rights the AFA enjoy each and every day?
I am daily amazed at the great hubris and remarkable ignorance (and dishonesty) shown by these people of the other nations of the world of which the United States is a part.
Other countries have integrated gays and lesbians just fine.
Other countries have endorsed and passed into law, the allowance of same-sex marriage just fine.
Again, what IS it about the United States that is SO unstable, that entering the adult world would destroy it?
It’s juvinile, childish, immature, petulant, and obnoxious.
Rather than playing at being parents, they should all be sent to their rooms for a substantial time out, and made to do some serious research using proper research methods.

I would remind “Light Colonel” Maginnis, respectfully(I rank him, btw) that the Congress was hardly repudiated as the Democrats retained the Senate under circumstances that ought to have generated a complete reactionary sweep.
