You’ve got to be f*cking kidding me. Will these goons ever stop? Right Wing Watch (via JMG) has this incredible bullshite from the Family Research Council, which plans to sue to stop DADT repeal:
As for FRC, who will take great pleasure in seeing this lame-duck finally limp out of town, we’ll be spending the next couple of weeks reassessing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” debate. In fact, I’ve already been in conversations with Hill leaders about holding hearings in the New Year, as well as statutory and legislative oversight steps that can be taken to turn back aspects of the repeal and slow down–if not stop–the rest. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and others will be working with FRC to put a strict evaluation process in place. We want to ensure that the Pentagon is monitoring the effect of this radical change on the men and women in harm’s way. One way to do that is demanding specific measurables–like tracking the sexual assaults, dips in recruitment and retention, combat distractions, and more. If there’s the slightest disruption to the military’s mission, you can bet that FRC will be on the Hill, demanding to revisit this repeal.

This is great news.Let these lawsuits soak up their resources and time. They won’t go anywhere.
I love how they always trumpet “the will of the people” when they win a round, but are whiney little gnats when the will of the people (70% in this case) say that discrimination is wrong.
Such hypocrisy deserves nothing but derision and a black hole to suck it into.
StandingGood luck with showing that they even have legal standing to sue.
their biggest fear….is that the threat of GLBT people to society will be exposed as the hoax that it is. what will become of them after that? how will they make their living when people figure out that GLBT people are not the boogeymen that these conservafucks have made them out to be? DADT is only the beginning….with the vast majority of the public behind this repeal, they are running out of ways to make compelling arguments. sure, the litigation won’t go far, but it will keep them employed, at least for the time being.
can’t wait for these hateful, hypocritical a-holes to go the way of the KKK. they’re off to a good start.
Hmmm…It seems to me that,
Is already being done. If I remember correctly, wasn’t there a report just released saying the the number of sexual harassment cases at military academies has increased. Also that the military has refused to release the data on sexual assaults in the military and that the ACLU has sued them to release it.
More hypocrisyThe judges who agree with them about discrimination are not activist judges but the ones who take “with liberty and justice for all” as a guideline are.
No SupriseIs any one really surprised about this? Conservafools will always fight to repeal any civil rights legislation and reverse any progress. All the whining about ‘states rights’ lately just shows they are still fighting to reverse the civil rights victories of the 50′s and 60′s. They will never give up so neither can we.
Um…So they think they have a right to sue over any law they’re unhappy with? First off, who are they going to sue? The White House? Congress? The Pentagon? Dan Choi? Second, what on earth makes them think they have standing? Even if they dig up a few military bigots to front for this suit, they would essentially be arguing for the right of service members to disregard lawful orders they don’t like. The chances that might prevail in a federal court are zero–or less. So, as TrumpetDC says, let them go ahead with this, and let them waste LOTS of their time, money and energy on it.
The only thing that really needs to be investigatedis whether these circus clowns are themselves the actual perverts – with their unending obsession with their projected sexual fantasies and orientations of others.
There is something extremely insecure about groups of people who attempt to victimize themselves by projecting their own imaginations into the lives of others – and then demanding government policy reflect those obsessive projections.
All the FRC and the right wingnuts are doing with this constant crying is starting to point out that perhaps their followers are the ones threatening military unit cohesion. And anyone who cannot protect his peepee in a shower, who cannot defend his country if he imagines there might be a gay person somewhere in his outfit is far too emotionally and mentally disturbed to be serving.
Perhaps we should demand that evangelicals be subjected to the same studies and reports, particularly since there are tons of stories of their attempts to coerce fellow soldiers into joining their flock.
No, you don’t understand that’s for heterosexual assaults — those don’t count because they’re part of the Divine Plan (TM).
TPM reports McCain is not on board with this. His spokesman comment: The law changed.
Mccain will now move on to other obstructionist activities, only complicated by the fact that the Republicans have to govern in the House.
Right!Y’know… those who think they’re GGTW and if they encounter someone who refuses to succumb, they consider them lesbians, and so they have to rape them in order to turn them back to their “natural” heterosexuality!
Yes, I am still pissed at the Farce Advocatefor his lack of spine in demanding accountability on the rise of sexual assaults at the Academies; also, I was told by a diplomat friend that the President wanted START addressed before DADT and DREAM; if there was time later, then maybe….this victory was Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid’sbeacuse of their doing this in opposition to the President’s priority list.
Many thanks, Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi; thank you Mr President for finally joining in and lending support but I am still furious with you over the increase in rapes on your watch, and your lack of action and silence on the subject
Can we put hate groups in Gitmo for suing to weaken our military?Just a thought
If we are going to commit international human rights violations, we might as well do something constructive with it.
Remember…This isn’t the first time this has happened, Maura!
I remember reading in Randy Shiltz’s book Conduct Unbecoming about this purge of “lesbians” in a Marine trainee company, when it turned out the male DI was sexually harassing his charges and accused them of being lesbian when they refused, and were discharged as a result.
Only in politicsCan we go from “lame duck” to “lame brained” in just a couple of weeks.
