I have no idea whether the Rotting Cryptkeeper of Westboro Baptist “Church” will show up to defile the celebration of the life of Elizabeth Edwards, but no doubt Shirley Phelps-Roper will bring her self-styled hate along with the spawn of Fred to Raleigh on Saturday. (News & Observer):
Westboro Baptist Church, a group with a history of staging protests at funerals and issuing anti-gay statements, is planning to picket the Saturday funeral of Elizabeth Edwards.The group said it will picket outside Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh from 12:15 until 1 p.m. when the funeral is scheduled to begin.
The purported reason for the Westboro Klan’s selection of the Edwards funeral, according to its web site (no, I’m not linking), which says “GOD HATES ELIZABETH EDWARDS!” claims she allegedly “spent her life in defiance and disobedience to God” and “Flee her example.”
Instead of focusing on those haters, watch what local residents had to say about the passing of Elizabeth Edwards…
There is a Facebook page up, Protect Elizabeth Edwards funeral from Westboro Church. “Let’s create a human buffer between Elizabeth Edwards and the Westboro church.”

I have an idea…When next someone in the Phelps Klan dies, every non-Phelpsian in the country should march on the funeral.
I’m sure that the surviving cryptkeepers won’t ‘get it’, but America needs a major catharsis.
I already have the signs printedI have every intention of demonstrating at their funerals, with amplified megaphone and plenty of “GOD HATES PHELPS” and “FRED IN HELL, BURNING IN EVERLASTING TORMENT, HALLELUYA!”

We’ll see what happens when the time comes. Hopefully it will be more of a party/celebration thing than a protest. They bring the hate to everything, but in this case (and I never said anything like this about anyone before) the world will be a better place without him in it. Why not celebrate that?

While Elizabeth Edwards’ family has my sympathyeveryone outside of them that’s whining about this can go tie themselves to a lightning rod. How many of them could be bothered to raise an eyebrow all the times this kind of BS happened at our funerals?

Or, more deliciously, we could have a same-sex kiss-in in front of the church when old Fred kicks off. Heck, I’ll bet even doing that at Mrs Edwards’ funeral this weekend would be drive the WBC away from that event (although it would be pretty classless on our part towards a woman who deserves respect).
