It's a story that you have probably already heard about but it bears repeating.
It seems that the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy is creating a bit of a conundrum in the McCain house.
Cindy McCain, the woman who would have been First Lady if her husband, Sen. John McCain, had won the 2008 presidential election, recently took part in an ad campaign from the NOH8 campaign, group formed in response to Proposition 8, the California ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage. The ad included other celebrities explaining why there is a problem with lgbt youth suicide, listing the ways in which society has told these youth that they are second class citizens:
Mrs. McCain says in the ad, which features her alongside celebrities such as Denise Richards and Gene Simmons. “They can't serve our country openly.”
After other speakers suggest that laws which limit the rights of gay Americans reinforce that derogatory treatment of them is acceptable, Cindy McCain asks rhetorically, “Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens — why shouldn't they?”
It was admirable for all of these celebrities, McCain included to do this ad. But the problem is that her husband, John McCain, has been very vocal in efforts to filibuster legislation that would end DADT.
During the last repeal effort, John McCain defended the policy, even at the point of snapping at reporter who challenged him about the military's history of distorting the policy to seek out and dismiss lgbt troops. This happened in September:
As far as I know, no one has asked the McCains about their very public opposite stances to DADT.
But wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall of at least one of their houses when the issue comes up between the two?

John McCain is in lock step with Conservatives on this issue, andwhile Cindy Mccain did speak on this issue, she still profits literally from her husbands efforts on behalf of those who campaign, And Vote, against us.
Dropping by with her makeup man, and saying a few words on camera (for this millionaire), whilst her husband uses his position of high power to perpetuate real opression against us, is still not nearly enough at all for a person in her position to do, IMHGO.
McCain has confirmed his position in History.
I can’t help but wonderif the McCains marriage isn’t more or less done with. Didn’t he call her a cunt in front of a bunch people one time, or was that just a rumor? I can’t imagine that she really has that much to do with him. They have 8 houses, after all…he could be living in one while she lives in another.
nor does she need himafter all the money in he family is hers, not his.
So what’s Cindy McCain to do exactly?Mrs. McCain is not an elected official, for one, her husband is.
And their disagreement over this issue is very, very public now which many folks in political families just don’t do.
Surprised you didn’t get this linked. CINDY MC CAINspeaks out against DADT and the bullying that causes Gay suicides.

She says ….. “Our Political and Religious Leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future..”….. ‘they can’t serve out country openly’…re teaching bullies its okay
she says: ‘Our Government treats LGBT like second-class citizens, why shouldn’t they?”. . . Are you listening President Obama???
Sorry, know the video is above..I just watched andwanted to tracnscibe at least Cindy's part for the hearing impaired. Note: I do believe full transcript should be posted to: Especially with attributions.. I myself do not recognize these people…so I won't try. But someone here does.
Navarro’s statWhile I totally applaud Dave Navarro’s participation on this video (he’s been very outspoken about trans and gay issues in past) the stat they told him to say is incorrect. In fact 1/2 of trans youth have attempted suicide and 1/3 of G & L youth have done the same (the the video he states 1/4 of trans youth have). Maybe it seems like a minor point, but minimizing the suicide numbers when it comes to trans youth does them no favors. NoH8 needs to be more careful with their facts.
*sigh* marriages fail for far, far less. Seriously, she should just toss his ass for a younger model.
now you see it, now you don’tReports surfacing that she retracted it, reportedly. I still would like to see verification, either or both the original communiqué and the tweet (twit?) could be bogus, who knows?

a bit hard to retract a videobut if the tweet is authentic, it just underscores the moral terpitude of DADT supporters.
Is Cindy McCain becoming a tortured “diva”before our very eyes because of that tweet?
Yeah, there’s Aravosis’ anger (which is a bit over the top) but I am also reading comments about CM being “ike turnered” and comments saying she needs to leave that man and folks pointing out that she’s the one with the money…etc.
Hate to agree with the particular towleroad commenter who brought it up but…
“ike turnered”was my first impression too.
