Where’s our President’s video?
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton delivers a message to the LGBT community that “Tomorrow Will Be Better,” at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., October 19, 2010.
I am very curiousAs First Lady, Senator and then Secretary of State, what, if anything, has the Clinton said or done with regards to DADT and DOMA?
Call me a cynical old curmudgeon, but all I see here are the same old crocodile tears that is all we have ever gotten.
Oh, oh…The Clintonistas are gonna get you, lol.
They have been out in all their glory since this hit the blogs earlier this evening.
They’re every bit as much tools as the Obots.
Fabulous vieo here by Hillary.
Oh, the video is great, no argument from meI question whether there is any steak under all that sizzle. Words are very cheap, as the Democrats keep proving over and over and over again.
Words are cheap and yetsome people can’t utter them. The contrast is telling.
Excellent vieoThis is a much needed video that has a powerful message for our lgbt youth. And that’s the only thing which concerns me. Y’all folks are more skeptical than the audience at Showtime at the Apollo – and that is a GOOD thing.
Thanks Hillary! Why are some of you commenters so cynical about a friend of the LGBT community? One of the first things Hillary did after taking office as Secretary of State was to provide all the same-sex domestic partner benefits for State Department employees that she was allowed to by law.
UHhuhShe is still against gay marriage, but for the lesser and unequal status of “civil unions”
Master is letting us sit in the room, but not at the table, and apparently we should be satisfied.
No sale, sister. Not till we have everything.
at least ACT like you careyes, some people cant even bother with the mere WORDS.
At least Hilary can ACT like she cares!
All or nothing?
How mature!
Is your mind reading act available for rental for parties, etc.?
My Aunt Pitty Pat has a church social coming up and she needs an entertainer since the Balloon Clown enhaled when he should have exhaled.
who said you should be satisfied?but it is sad that people can’t drop the politics for 5 minutes and appreciate the message she’s sent out to kids who may be feeling alone.
I approve. Some may argue that she is only shedding crocodile tears, but I think overall it’s a positive message because she’s still helping to spread awareness about GLBT issues. If I had to take it as a negative, I’d say she was just being snarky and sticking the issue in the face of the Farce Advocate.
Regardless, I know A LOT of gays that like her, and anything that energizes the issue and motivates people to reach out to youth even more is a positive for me.
Well, it depends. It’s one thing to stake out an all-or-nothing political position. It’s another thing to expect that anyone who insists on getting credit as an ally should actually support full equality. In terms of what it takes before I’ll endorse someone in those terms, “all” is still a low enough standard that I don’t think it’s unreasonable.
VP?I’m seriously expecting her as the VP candidate in 2012. Biden has said he has no interest in being the President.
I think the message, as far as it goes, is genuine. I think she is absolutely opposed to bullying and job discrimination. She doesn’t mention marriage, and in context, shouldn’t have.
But even if this is purely positioning herself for her political future, it is telling that she felt the need to do so. If it isn’t, and is her genuine feeling, then it is telling that she felt free to do so.
This is a good thing.
I do, however, agree. Where is the President’s video? How much “political capital” does it take to come out against bullying and assaults on children, for God’s sake?
We had a cop and a homeowner to the White House for beer over an (insupportable and inappropriate) scuffle about a perceived break-in. But nothing about kids all over the country being assaulted and driven to suicide?
“Words are cheap and yet”they’re so powerful, and when they come from well-known and respected faces, they have an influence on the culture at large.
Thanks, Hillary!
I find it very oddthat she declares “openly gay men and women can now serve” as though it’s a done deal. We all know her boss is fighting tooth and nail to continue firing gay soldiers.
It seems like that’s definitely setting the table for some awkward moments soon, if they get their stay. Drawing attention to the hollowness of that statement.
Not sure she’s “gone rogue” as Aravois says, but she’s definitely off preferred messaging. Which would be “Dear Leader is working hard!” or “_____” (silence).
I have to agree with your statementas my Senator Hillary never signed on to UAFA. Nor did she in 6 years put her tremendous political weight behind ENDA. She had six years to introduce a DADT or DOMA repeal bill into the Senate, and she did not. The DADT bill was left by Democratic leaders until the 11th hour, leaving little time to built support and sponsors.
Those are actions. I want to make clear: I like and respect her as a person, and believe she’s sincere.
But she hasn’t distinguished herself as a leader in action. I’m a little bemused why people think she’s a great leader to our community. She has little actual achievements to show for it. Her successor, Kirsten Gillibrand has done more for us in a year than HRC did in all her time in DC.
Please, this is an entirely political video. Her messages are more than mixed. The pawprints of Democrat Party poltitics are all over this – she’s running for office and the Clintonistas are circling the WH cawing Hiiiaaaarrrrie, Hiiiaaaarrrrie.
Shes sends out the opposite message with her pigheaded opposition to same sex marriage. The truth is that her opposition as well as that of Der Papenfuehrer, Obama, Palin, McCain and other right wingers sends a clear and very dangerous message of encouragement to bigots and thugs.
Perhaps in spite of that someone might be helped by this video, unless they know her history.
I don’t think the Clintonistas are all that scary. Discredited, yes. Influential, no.
She is talking about Foreign Service Officers…of which I am one. LGBT Foreign Service Officers could not serve openly before 1992 because being gay was cause to have your security clearance revoked. Now we serve VERY openly. My wife and I are what the Department refers to as a “tandem couple,” that is, a married couple where both are employees of the Department. And as such, they work to keep us posted together.
Actually, you are wrongThis idea for this video came from GLIFAA (Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies). Within days of us suggesting it to her, she had the video shot and released. And she is not new to caring about this issue. In her speech on June 22 for LGBT Pride, she said, “So I think that each and every one of you not only professionally, particularly from State and USAID in every bureau and every embassy and every part of our government, have to do what you can to create that safe space, but also personally to really look for those who might need a helping hand, particularly young people, particularly teenagers who still, today, have such a difficult time and who still, in numbers far beyond what should ever happen, take their own lives rather than live that life. So I would ask you to please think of ways you can be there for everyone who is making this journey to defend not only human rights globally, but to truly defend themselves and their rights. The struggle for equality is never, ever finished. And it is rarely easy, despite how self-evident it should be.”
Actually, I’m right and you’re wrong. It’s a campaign video by your employer, a pigheaded and bigoted opponent of same sex marriage.
The reality is that her dangerous message is that we don’t deserve to be treated like other citizens. That’s a green light for bigots and thugs and promotes harassment, violence and the awful fear and despair of those young people who destroyed themselves rather than put up with it. But she wants our votes so she has to pretend to be ‘fierce’ like Obama.
That’s the fact whether you or GLIFAA (Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies) had something to do with it or not.
In addition to her rampant homohating H. Clinton relentlessly panders to the most bigoted christers.
She and her State Department are co-conspirators and accomplices of the White House/Pentagon crimes of wasting the lives of American service members and muslim civilians in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2003, in the run up to Bushes illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq she shamefully repeated the contemptible lies of Bill Clinton (and Bush) about the existence of WMDs and the nonexistent Iraqi nuclear threat. H. Clinton is as bad as Obama, Palin, B. Clinton and the Bushes when it comes to bigotry and support for illegal American wars of aggression to steal oil and other resources.
Ultra GrowthI love Mrs. Clinton but she’s got to do something with those bags under her eyes. Poor thing probably doesn’t sleep much. I do hope she returns as Secretary of State for President Obama’s second term.
