The same old garbage, recycled for fundie fright consumption by Joseph Farah’s “news” machine:
Poll’s tiny subset thinks this should be part of ‘marriage’
But 70% majority states preference for one-man, one-woman definition
A new WND/Wenzel Poll indicates that an overwhelming 70 percent of Americans want marriage limited to one man and one woman, but a subset, tiny though it may be, already is endorsing polygamy and bestiality.
The prospect that relationships abhorred both biblically and traditionally will be sanctioned already has been forecast by one of the California Supreme Court justices in 2008 who dissented from the majority opinion that “found” in the state constitution a provision for same-sex “marriage.”
…”While 92 percent of Republicans believe only in a one man-one woman marriage, just 52 percent of Democrats agreed,” he reported. “Among Democrats, 44 percent said they believed a marriage could be any two people, regardless of gender.
…It was among those categories that the polygamous or polyamorous relationships – even bestiality – started appearing.
Among Democrats, 2.2 percent said “marriage” should be “many people-any gender.” One-half of one percent of independents agreed. And a definition of marriage that would be “not limited to humans alone” was supported by 0.2 percent of Democrats and the same percentage of Independents.

PollThe numbers are way off compared to other polls. In fact, the results vary widely from state to state. It’s closer to 50-50.
You take a poll of sh*theads, what are you gonna get but sh*t?
Good griefThe 0.2 percent of Democrats and independents who responded “not limited to humans alone) is more than 13 times less than the reported margin of error in that poll.
And…As are the polygamy results, for that matter. And “marriage should be scrapped.” So if anything, that poll DISPROVES the ridiculous slippery slope argument.
By 3.5 to 1, more Republicans than Democrats believe “marriage should be scrapped.”Hey, I’m just doing the math. .2% of Dems believe this, and .7% of GOPers. How did they let this get through their data correction machine? Well, unlikely it is statistically significant.
The braniacs didn’t get their column headings right. Last column is an “Average” not a “Total.”
Love the spin …
Because they tracked this question in a previous scientific poll, and there has been an increase reported in these categories? I get it … this is the vanguard assault against traditional marriage, started by teh gayz. Look out, Amurika, BOO! Hurry, DONATE NOW™.
And is it such a shock that the polygamous set and farm animal lovers identify as Dem or Independent rather than aligning with repressive, conformist, fear-based Republicans? And when asking “not limited to humans alone,” did Farah differentiate between critter copulators and the people who wanted to partner with our alien overlords when they arrive on spaceships? C’mon, if Na’vi Jack rang my doorbell, I’d be all over that.
Meanwhile, back in reality, I wonder if even Farah’s readers aren’t suspicious of his “poll.”
Let’s poll Mormon Teabaggersand see what those numbers look like
Consider the sourceThis poll was conducted by Wenzel Strategies, which is obviously a highly conservatively biased organization. Just take a look at the front page of their web site: http://wenzelstrategies.com/ . Some snippets from the featured articles on their front page:
“OBAMA, CONGRESS HIT NEW JOB LOWS AS ELECTION LOOMS”
“The slide continues. A new Wenzel Strategies telephone survey of voters nationwide shows just 37% give President Obama positive marks for the job he is doing as leader of the nation.”
“…the country would be better off if a Republican-led Congress were elected in November to counter the agenda of the Obama administration.”
“The Obama administration passed two mileposts in the latest Wenzel Strategies polling that show it is speeding down the highway – but in the wrong direction.”
“…it is now time to seriously consider repeal of the 17th Amendment…”
For a public polling agency who should at maintain some pretence of impartiality, they make no attempt to hide their naked conservative agenda. As Mark Twain said, “There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.” Well, Wenzel Strategies has mastered the art of the damn lying statistic.
Did it sayanywhere how many people were polled? Skewing can easily occur with a small sample.
Or even where the question is askedWere the “Republicans” polled as they were walking out of church? They could do the same for Democrats to make sure that the one man/one woman result would be over 50%. Alternatively, they could poll Democrats at Burning Man to try to up their extreme alternative relationship numbers.
.02% “marrage not limited to humans alone”I can explain that easy.
A non-furry person marrying a person that happens to be a furry.
Some of the Furs I’ve met are pretty hard core into the fandom.
Vital data left outHere’s the ringer – how many people polled were Dems, GOP, and indy?
When it comes to averages you have to take this number in to effect, unless they polled and equal number of Dems, GOP, and Indy and then ASSUMED the general populous was equally full of those numbers this study can not be counted as valid.
They are weighting Independents the same as the Group of Dems and GOP as if the nation is divided equally in three groups – which I highly doubt is the actual case.
I fired up the old neurons, pulled out some scratch paper, and crunched the numbers. Based on the top two statistics on their list and the relative sizes of the responses to the total statistic, and after wasting about a page and a half of otherwise useful paper, I came to this conclusion. I can’t tell you the total numbers, but I calculate the relative numbers this way. The respondants to the poll were:
37.2% Republicans
39.5% Democrats
23.3% Independents
Marriage pollThey forgot the category of people married to mythological beings that live on a cloud.
I hate to dignify this with a response, but . . . I don’t see “bestiality” on here. The phrase “Not Limited to Humans Alone” could just as easily mean that your two cats could get married to each other. With an ever growing number of people considering their pets family, treating them as such, and even leaving money to them in wills, it’s not a stretch that some people think the pets they personify should be allowed to marry other pets of the same species.
