Oh. My. God. Sum of Change took its cameras to Glenn Beck’s rally on Saturday and interviewed some of the political geniuses. This first clip is a couple from Ohio, and the ignorance is astonishing. The conversation about privatizing Social Security alone is hilarious. The man doesn’t know WTF he’s talking about.
Dave From Florida wants to get back to values. Particularly deal with the people who “don’t want to work for a living.” My favorite line – apparently comparing the unemployed and/or those on welfare to animals: “They believe that they should be fed and clothed like they were in a zoo for their whole life…probably about 40% of the population obviously, that are on government programs other than the disabled or people that cannot work.
More below the fold.Oh, and the whole “evil Mosque” debate made its way to Beck’s rally and this ignoramus spouts bigoted BS but a woman interrupts to shut the boob down before he embarrasses himself more, but she starts talking about baseball players sleeping around as an example of why the country is going to hell in a handbasket.

Never Underestimate The Power Of Stupid People In Large Groups.
Its called free speech PamBeck is a toad. A pus ridden smelly hate baiting toad. But it is his freedom to gather and speech to say wat he must. We must remember that and look at what this really means.
I have no doubt in my mind Repugs will take back the House in November and God help us the Senate. We need to focus our energy on makin this a bad foretelling and not a reality. I just read on Gay Americablog that someone actually believes the GOP is more accepting of gays. Permit me to sound off, just becos closeted homos who have more or less terrorised our community finally feel safe enuf after they have lost power to come out does not and i mean does NOT mean the GOP gives a flyin shit about gays. Dems are a joke right now for sure. But lemme gtee u as soon as GOP gets back into power we r all screwed
Where do people get the ideathat freedom of speech includes freedom from being criticized?
Do these people ever really pay for anything in real life? As much as they go on and on about big government and their taxes, one wonders if they didn’t flinch when Beck encouraged them to pay the CHURCH 10% of their income. Apparently they don’t mind taxation when it comes from a church which can banish them at a moment’s notice.
They also don’t seem to mind paying corporations, banks, and insurance companies double-digit rate increases for services every year without any accountability. And they don’t seem to mind being taxed by companies who are allowed sole control over the terms of a credit contract and their arbitary right to hike interest rates at will.
Apparently they believe there should be private companies making ever increasing profits for not providing health care coverage, even though there is little evidence to indicate such companies REDUCE their rates once their profit margin hits a certain level. So essentially, they don’t want to pay taxes to a government which allows them a vote, a voice and a say, but they are more than happy to have their wallet picked by companies who can dictate terms of enslavement. And forget about the companies being regulated by the free market – once one figures out a new convenience fee for wealth creation, the rest jump right on board – and consumers have few real choices.
This all boils down to this (at least to me):
A. Government, which allows people to participate, should be starved except for defense, and the gays still can’t openly serve.
B. Pay 10% taxes to your Church (but we’ll call them a tithe) because the Church conservatives recognize dictates the morality and decides who is really in need (well, unless you are someone the Church doesn’t like).
C. Poor people are lazy. Rich people work all the time. Everyone could be rich and fleece everyone else if they’d just work all the time.
D. Unions are evil, because companies have always provided wonderful wages and benefits to employees out of good character.
E. We cannot progress beyond our straight, white, male landowner forefathers’ limited visions of governing 13 loosely connected colonies/states. Therefore, the Constitution must be interpreted as if it is 1790 at all times. It is merely coincidence that this would likely favor straight, white male landowners.
F. We want all Americans to have a chance. Except the gays, cuz our personally selected “religious” beliefs dictate that the gays only help pay for conservatives to enjoy a privileged lifestyle, but must remain shunned second-class citizens with fewer rights than child sex offenders and spousal abusers.
G. Everyone must go to church or you cannot possess the moral character to be a good citizen. The churches must be approved by conservatives who may decide to scapegoat your faith at any moment (should there be an economic calamity and they need something to blame). Conservative churches are in charge of defining what is “moral” what is “Christian” and what is “good character” for everyone, and that should be forced into laws.
H. Controlling the bodies of women and the aspirations of the uppity gays is a conservative’s right, because they are protecting God. In that case, government can be as big as necessary to prosecute them. Men have no restrictions.
I. All schools must have formal prayer sessions, because conservatives cannot pray or practice their religious beliefs without a captive audience. Only conservative “Christians” can proselytize or offer forced public prayers.
SheepI have not seen that many ignorant white people since I left Ohio (Thank goodness and one reason for leaving.) They are all pumped up to Take back America, Honor, and Values but can’t site one fact or instance that needs changed. They all sound like parrots. “Take back America” from who?
The comment made by the older gentleman about fewer people going to college was classic misinformation. Maryland has reported that in the last 2 years there has been a 50% increase in enrollment across the state. Most of the people that are returning to school have lost jobs and are retraining themselves. A good % of them are on grants from the government. My wife being one of those. Yes Obama is spending more on the Pell Grant and in a few short years there will be a huge increase of trained and informed people ready to work.
We are no longer and industrial nation thanks to Bush policies. The high school educated adult who has worked in the factories are now on welfare, flipping burgers, or going back to school. The newly educated adult will be entering the work force in service industries.
My home town in Ohio died when the factories shut down or moved. The lines for food and assistance are huge and not very nice. A fight broke out in the early morning line at the HEAP office several days ago. (HEAP- Gas and electric assistance program.) Only the smart and motivated ones are returning to school with the help of the government.
The people in attendance, I am assuming, have a job and can afford to spend it on traveling to the event. They don’t have a clue what it is like having to ask for help or be cold and hungry.
Bush took away jobs from hard working families and Obama is retraining the workforce to return educated and ready for the new jobs that ARE here and coming. That is how you restore honor and dignity to the people and country. Not a bunch of clueless sheep that will follow the likes of Beck and Palin.
Huzzah!!>stands and applauds<
“Where do people get the idea that freedom of speech includes freedom from being criticized?”Alice Dreger sez so, so it must be true.
OhioOur state is slowly getting better, Lincoln… but when you have the congressman from Wall Street running for governor, and the architect of Shrub’s economic disaster running for senate (both of whom has tons of cash to spend on misleading attack ads!), things are looking bleak.
Both are blaming Democrats for the economic woes, but it was their policies which caused the economy to tank and jobs to leave Ohio!
You may have left the Buckeye State, Lincoln, but please help out the Dems keep Ohio blue!
Should we cut all government spending? How about Homeland Security?
What did you expect? “Marry my daughter”?You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West.
You know…
Morons.
Because only hard right-wing Christianist ignoramouses have a right to free speechThe Constitution applies only to them, doncha know, and only at their convenience.
The snotfrom your upraised urban elitist nose is dripping onto your shirt.
Andonly the parts they agree with, as they interpret them.
Much the same way they handle their holy book.
All I can say isFabulous!! Spot on Kevin.
Whoa…Ignorance and stupidity aren’t solely rural phenomena. Proof? We need look no further than your own comment.
You may not consider yourself to be made of “common clay”, but you’re sounding just as moronic as the worst we have to offer out here in the Midwest…
On a cautionary note…Yes, the degree of self-imposed ignorance is astonishing –but ridiculing and belittling them does nothing except allow them to take on the “martyr to the cause” mantle. They wear our scorn like a badge of honor… and they’re having that “victimhood” stoked into political energy.
CBS estimated the crowd to be ~87,000 people — I know, less than the 100K Beck said — but they did get coverage… and it’s going to be flogged in the MSM (especially outside the beltway) until the next anti-gay republican is caught with a rentboy.
OUR March on Washington easily had twice the number of people, but got little coverage outside the gay press.
Let’s not forget that:
they have been handed the microphone
the media won’t call BS — but try for false-equivalencies, and
the Democrats in Congress and this President would rather back down than confront this crap head-on
Until that’s addressed, it’s going to be a long road ahead.
Umm…The Blazing Saddles reference made me giggle, but I think it’s way too easy for the reader to interpret it as your actual opinion. (Unless, of course, the Blazing Saddles quote actually DOES reflect your actual opinion, in which case see Rae and Megan’s posts.)
A miracle has just occured!I just read sillyme and idea in the same thread! Wow, Jesus will be back any day now.
How, exactly, is it “elitist” to recognize an moron when you see one?You think people whose IQs run to three digits are an elite??? You just revealed a lot more about yourself than you could have possibly intended to.
Holy stupidity batman!I think I’m going to cuddle up in the fetal position while taking a cold shower until I feel numb.
This crap makes me sick. I mean truly to know that there are that many sheeple out there that don’t have a clue because their brains have been turned to mush by this sociopath.
Gotta love all the generic, non desrcipt explanations – but hell they are full of talking points! They just can’t talk much about them.
Seriously watching this stuff is worse than watching NOM rallies.
Please see linkhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt00…
Please see linkhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt00…
Ah.A movie buff I am not…
…
No… they BOUGHT the microphones…and the sheeple. Please read F RICH's piece on the BILLIONAIRES that Bankroll the TEA PARTY…calling on Jane Mayer's New Yorker article that has laid open their (oil Family) funding and support of DOWN WITH GOVERNMENT causes since before their father sat on board of JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY.http://tinyrul.com/28cwodr Major problems is:
Racism. Pure and simple. Listen to what the couple from Ohio is actually saying. They are against welfare. They are angry because “23 year old women with four kids stay on welfare.” They are angry that Grandma’s Medicare gets charged full price but poor people get part of the cost of their ambulance rides written off (as uncollectable because they have no health insurance but never mind the details….)
Cut education? No, no, no! Cut defense? Gasp!
It all comes down to racism. It’s the same problem we’ve had in this country for over 100 years. Ignorant lazy white people are convinced that brown people are taking all their money, so they are unwilling to share a dime. “If I have to share it with shiftless black people/illegals then I’m going to keep it all for me me me!!!!!”
They are tools of the corporations and the 1% of the population who are actually stealing us ALL blind.
It makes me furious. Yes, I am white. And I feel like telling these fucking racist white idiots from Ohio to take the blinders off and listen to the Christ they claim to follow and confront the racism, the bigotry, that is driving their lives.
I saw Blazing Saddlesin 1974 when it first came out. It was ok. Not worth seeing again, certainly not worth memorizing. But in the future, when you’re quoting movie scripts, you might want to actually include quotation marks so that people don’t assume the words you’re writing are your own.
That said, since you retorted to my reply without referencing the movie, it is elitist to infer that rural folk are by definition morons.
Your reference to three-digit IQ’s is disconnected to the exchange.
And it’s “a moron”, not “an moron”, Sparky.
The reason that they act this way is because they are racist. They are unwilling to share with brown people. That’s it. Pure and simple. I’m white and I’ve heard it all my life. These people will give everything they have to the corporations and white authority figures but not a dime to help everyone, because helping “everyone” is code in their lizard brains for “shiftless brown people and illegals.”
It’s the reason that we have such lousy public services in the U.S. while the rest of the industrial world is decades ahead of us in guaranteeing access to health care, education, child care, public transportation, etc. We don’t like public services in the U.S. That would mean that we have to share with “those people.”
It makes me so angry I want to throw up. On them.
this is free speech too sillymemy subject line pretty much says it all
some of the images I made about Beck/Palin rally and Rev. Sharpton rallyPalin and Beck never looked SMALLER than when they attempted to stand in Lincoln’s and Dr. King’s shoes
http://img.villagephotos.com/p…
http://img.villagephotos.com/p…
btw the briiliant phrase Koch Suckers was from a HuffPo member nicknamed JesusHuseinChrist
and
Rev. Al Sharpton made mincemeat of Beck.
“They had the MALL
We Have The MESSAGE
we can dream….ANYWHERE”
http://img.villagephotos.com/p…
and
http://img.villagephotos.com/p…
The miracle on the mall happened at Beck/Palin I Have A SchemeThe Creator turned Beck into a PILLAR OF BORING.
I had to chuckle at every audience shot there would be one or two people YAWNING.
It’s Beck’s own hype that did him in, comparing this big hot mess to the Moon Landing, the first flight, MLK, Disney, and Rosa Parks.
what he delivered was a cruddy sequel to Rain Man.
Did anyone get the name of the lesbian who spoke at Sharpton rally?I read the name as she spoke briefly, they cut many speeches real short. I would like to know her name.
The young Howard University representative was good too.
Okay, Quiz Kid, here we go:I have never in any way whatever referenced Blazing Saddles or any other movie in this thread. Nor have I quoted from it or any other movie script. Your infantile sniping makes no sense whatsoever.
Do you really have nothing to do than comb posts picking out typos and pretending that they’re anything more than that? But since you want to go that route, and since it’s something you’ve obviously not learned: Film titles should be italicized. This is rudimentary, grade-school grammar. Sorry it’s beyond your grasp. Your defense of morons seems more and more comprehensible.
This is in reply to the person called “Rae,” above.
No such thing as free speech for bigotsBarf. Yet again a liberal defends the rights of bigots. Why are liberals so devoted to the abstract idea of “rights” but so unwilling to actually do anything about them in real life?
Lefties, progressives and other thinking people: Stop defending the rights of bigots, and by extension homophobia and gay bashing, by hiding behind the cliche of “free speech.” There is no free speech for bigots. When bigots “speak freely,” WE END UP DEAD. The First Amendment says the government can’t obstruct speech. As citizens, as communities, as progressives, as lefties, we are OBLIGATED to stop hate speech.
If bigots speak and the first thing out of your mouth is a defense of their speech, YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE. You should go have a beer with Obama and “talk” about racism.
What happens when we don’t speak up and speak out against racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry? Well, let’s see what has happened in this country regarding the Tea Party since Obama has taken office. No criticisms, no condemnations, hell Biden doesn’t even think they’re racist! This should be deeply disturbing to anyone who opposes racism. When our side is silent, their side grows. They went from marginalized fringe group to marginalized fringe group with massive media coverage with a national rally. But to keep things in context: 87,000 redneck bigots marched today. 250,000 queers marched last October. Despite the media’s masturbatory coverage of the Tea Party, WE are still the majority. Unfortunately, we don’t have a president on our side.
Just to ease your troubled soulI wasn’t saying the people in the clips weren’t morons. When I watched the clips I found the stupidity downright painful to watch.
As for the rest of it, Popebuck1 caught where I was coming from, and clarified the original intent so I now know roughly where Popebuck1 was coming from, and it’s all good on that score.
I still don’t quite grasp where your snark came from but frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.
That means you’ll shut up and leave people alone, right?Good.
I suppose your crack calling me Sparky wasn’t snark, huh? Oh, I get it, you meant that to be a compliment. Right.
And since you still haven’t explained what I asked you originally (what “elite” does it make you part of to have a normal IQ?), I assume you don’t have an answer. So your promised silence will be that much more appropriate.
You win!The Internet is yours, sir, between that last comment and your pictures. Thanks for the LOL!
Where did the snark come from? you ask.Gee, maybe, just maybe, it came from this:
You think that might be where it started? Do ya, huh?
thanks Mena
>grinz<One of my all-time favorite comedy films… Blazing Saddles!
Not True“No such thing as free speech for bigots”
That is simply not true. What is true, though, is that “free speech” does not equal “freedom from criticism,” as is mentioned above by RainbowPhoenix. Bigots can say whatever they want (free speech), but they are not immune to any of the consequences of that free expression, including criticism, boycotts, etc.
Now, what was the point you were trying to make?
RE: The snot… and the sanctimony is dripping off of you into puddles at your feet. Watch where you step! It may be slippery!
Oh, please!“… ridiculing and belittling them does nothing except allow them to take on the ‘martyr to the cause’ mantle.”
Stupid ideas deserve to be ridiculed. It’s how you get rid of stupid ideas! And they will try to turn themselves into martyrs no matter what we do. It’s part of their MO.
What do you suggest we do in the face of unbelievable stupidity? If mockery and ridicule is out, what do you want to see instead?
Try this:
There are ways to confront that can’t be spun into their persona of victimhood and their characterization of critics as “godless, liberal, elitists”… You merely have to look at what Olson & Boies did in the courtroom to see how.
