I will post this without comment so that you can judge for yourself as to whether DNC Chairman Tim Kaine’s outreach to the LGBT community has adequately addressed the frustrations out there and is now listening…or not.
Throughout Pride Month, we asked for feedback about what the Democratic Party can do to promote equality. More than 5,000 members of the LGBT community and allies responded. We delivered those responses to Gov. Tim Kaine — the chairman of the Democratic National Committee — and now, he’s filmed a video to answer some of the questions we received. Check it out and share it with your friends.
A poll is below the fold.

So far under my fb post of this…I am getting a lot of …'he said nothin' to me.' Anyway he isn't the one we need to hear from…. and we don't need to hear anymore… WE NEED ACTION. The CHANGE, that we were promised.
You want my support? Then STOP DISMISSING MY LEGAL MARRIAGE!
Get rid of DOMA. Now. Not next year, not next election cycle, not some unspecified time in the future, right fucking now.
Unless and until that happens, you can twist in the wind, asshole.
Does anyone take the Dems seriously anymore?I mean really, these people lie as easily as breathing. You can tell when they’re getting serious because then you get actual answers to your questions.
Tim Kaine telling us ENDA is a priority for the Dems and they are working hard to pass it is about as credible as the GOP saying they’re trying to help the poor and middle class:
It sounds nice, but anyone paying attention knows it’s utter bullshit.
Better luck next time, Dems. This does nothing but further convince me that the Party is just as full of it as ever.
Who cares what Tim Kaine says? What does it matter what Tim Kaine says? Our feedback, our questions, should be directed at Mr. Obama. It’s always better to deal with the ventriloquist than the dummy.
Our voices matter. This guy’s, not so much.
The Big 3 Still Left Unattended by Congress and the PresidentDOMA and DADT still stare us in the eye and ENDA is left undone. Mr. Kaine has said nothing new; just the same promises still left unfulfilled.
Like the hopeful fool I sometimes am, I entered the link at the end of his spiel: http://www.lgbt.democrats.org. The site does not exist!
Oh, BTW I did do an “lgbt democrats” Google search. It took me to the Democratic Party webpage. When I clicked the link “Join the LGBT Leadership Council” it was a front for soliciting donations. The lowest donation amount offered as a selection is $250.00! Are they nuts?!
I won’t give them a dime until they start keeping their promises.
SSDD from the Dems…
The need…to ask for “feedback” and compile a response in a video, would be obviated by actual progress on the issues.
A sale-job is not necessary when you actually deliver what you promise.
Deliver or get out of the way.
I refuse to even look at itOne sentence should be all that is necessary:
It can’t take 3:33 to say that, so I’ll presume that the clip is a load of doubletalk designed to get us to bend over and march into the oblivion of DC nothingness.
My ears are closed until DADT and DOMA repeal and the passage of ENDA, UAFA, and the other 10 pieces of legislation that should have been passed this year. The GAYTM is still closed Tim.
Who is he kidding?Obama has reiterated that he opposes marriage equality and his administration is actively defending legal challenges that could overturn DOMA. Discharges under DADT are unabated. Remind me again; what are the Democrats are doing for me?
Tit for tatI will officially give Mr. Kaine and the DNC exactly the same level of support they’re giving me.
In other words:
I love you guys and I support you! Really, REALLY I do! Way to go with everything, guys!
And I swear, I will get around to voting for you, donating money, and volunteering time and effort on your behalf ANY DAY NOW.
Thanks, guys!
Who…is “we?”
I propose the Tim Kaine award…for the nelliest DNC chairman ever!
My answer to the DNC is exactly their answer to us (see below)‹^› ‹(•¿•)› ‹^›
YupTalk is as cheap, and I don’t have the time to waste listening to more excuses. Therefore, I will not even watch the video.
Videos like this are a waste of the democratic party’s money. And I’m not going to waste my money just so they can manufacture more excuses later on.
I’m a pay as I go democrat. If the party is doing right, I’ll support it. If not, I won’t.
didn’t make me open my wallet
‘Till they repeal DADT, I’ll tell the Dems “DCFC”.
“DCFC” means “Don’t Call For Cash”.
All yack, No shack…AgainNice try, but I’m not buying whatever it is you’re selling. Words just won’t cut it. Not again. Not this time. Not ever.
Check back with me when Lt. Dan Choi is reinstated along with every other LGBT service member discharged under DADT during our “fierce advocates” command.
Check back with me when ENDA and DOMA is repealed.
Then — and ONLY then — will I consider voting for a Dem again and maybe, just maybe giving money to the cause.
Kaine is USELESSI’ve hated him leading the DNC from day ONE.
He has ZERO concern for or credibility with LGBTs.
Virginia is for HATERS…happened while he was governor…nuff said.
It’s simple really, I won’t even watch the message, why?……Because I am no longer interested in what these people say. They say a lot of things. They promise things. But very little of anything ever changes. We were told some things, like DADT would end, DOMA would end, and ENDA would pass. There is NO DISCERNIBLE ACTION on ANY ONE of those fronts. The President holds segregationist views when it comes to marriage equality, or; more accurately separate but equal marriage, creating a permanent second-class citizenry of us.
I AM DONE LISTENING TO THEM TALK.
I AM DONE WORKING FOR THEM.
I AM DONE GIVING THEM MONEY.
And lastly, and understand the power of this:
I AM DONE VOTING FOR THEM.
What will win me back? The simple concept of EQUALITY guaranteed me by the Constitution and barred to me by heterosexuals.
Zounds“I promise you, we’re going to do everything in our power to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.”
The only logical interpretation of this is that ‘we’, whomever ‘we’ are, have no power whatsoever. If Democratic Senators voted for ENDA there would be enough votes to get it through a cloture vote in the Senate. It is the Democratic Party who is stopping the passage of ENDA, not the Republicans, at this point.
(And it would pass the House if it passed the Senate)
Don’t ask don’t giveThere already is a campaign in progress called Don’t ask Don’t Give. As long as they discriminate against gays in the military, then they are not giving money or time to the DNC.

Use they POWER that WE gave to you!We, the people, GAVE YOU your office.
We gave you our money, our time, our hopes and dreams.
This is what we see from our end.
You are giving failed and utterly corrupt companies but loads of cash, but you are not using the position of office or your majority to pass equality.
All we see is bread crumbs – little things to try to pacify us. Just DO IT.
You can NEVER going to have this opportunity again dems, at least not in this generation. Maybe if you actually changed something for the better like removing the DOMA or DADT – hell even the ENDA would be easy – then we know you are serious and we will work for you and with you.
You’re better than the GOP, but you could also be so much better.
Yet Another Example…Of what David Frum supposedly said, that “Republicans fear their base and the Democrats hate their base.”
He Scared Me Even More that I already was!He used the video to tout how he was responsbile for providing Virginia LGBT state employees protections while he was governor. Those protections were so WEAK that Governor McDonnell immediately reversed them when he came into office.
We want permanent change, not policy memos and proclamations that are gone with the stroke of a conservative pen.
But they like us.We’d have more leverage if we had a “Tea Party” sized faction on the left.
We need more LGBTs to run in Democratic primaries…even if they’re incumbents. Forget allies.
No way I’d vote Republican to spite the Democrats. So, I think we need some other threat.
I used to support the Green Party. I’ll go further left before I go right.
His rhetoric says it all–listen carefully“steps to promote”
“beginning to address”
These are weaselly constructions. What’s happened isn’t insignificant, but why should, for instance, Federal workers have it better off than the rest of us? Why such baby steps? And the steps aren’t what we were promised.
His prologue also did not acknowledge the anger. It’s not frustration. I’m frustrated if I have to reboot my computer. I’m frustrated if my dogs won’t stop barking. I’m frustrated if I have a bad workout at the gym. I’m frustrated if I screwed up my DVR and didn’t record the show I intended to.
I’m not frustrated about the lack of hard progress, I’m angry, disappointed, and disgusted. I think Obama is turning into Clinton. Promise, surface dazzle (at times), but no follow-through, and weak at the core.
The very choice of the word “frustrated” by Kaine (or his writers), the way it’s balanced with “some of you/some of you” as if we’re split down the middle, all show they don’t get it.
Maybe they will when they don’t get our votes?
What I would love to see, Pam and Blenders, is somebody do a 1000-person poll of the LGBT community to sound it on what people are really feeling.
Fortunately…here at work the video is blocked from my computer. I can only imagine what wasn’t said. The mere fact the DNC had to ask what they can do to promote equality is telling enough. Haven’t they been listening; haven’t they been paying attention up to this point? Have they just been taking our money because we are easy marks without expectations? Do they think we are idiots? We don’t need the DNC acting like the Target Corporation. The GayTM is closed and will remain so until the DNC gets some balls and acts on ENDA, DOMA and DADT.
I’ll drag out my old Navy saying again here…“Looks like sh**, smells like sh**, gotta be chocolate, right?”
The Dems need to stop feeding us sh** and trying to tell us its chocolate. Dems had historic numbers of members in Congress, had a president in theri party, and they couldn’t deliver on the low hanging fruit of repealing DADT, and the incredibly important ENDA.
Seriously, if congress doesn’t pass ENDA this year, and doesn’t irepeal DADT this year, then no congressperson or senator currently serving in office will ever get a political donation from me — Not until action on DADT and ENDA is completed.
I’m am not going to subsidize my nation’s political oppressors with political donations, and I’m holding them all accountable for their congress’s failures.
Willyed: You are so rightI have personally been an activist for over 30 years. The Obama Administration is no better than the Clinton, Reagan, Bush or W Administrations when it comes to our civil rights. They have passed ONE piece of legislation, Hate Crimes, which was already on track to becoming law BEFORE they came into office. SO, THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING.
too much talkheard all of that before…. We were duped by the president into believeing he would stand and fight for us. A lot of what he spoke of can be taken back by the next administation and if it is a Republican undoubtedly will be.My MARRIAGE MATTERS get on with repeal of DOMA, MY FAMILY MATTERS, Get on with giving it the protections it deserves under the law in the United States…. MY CHILDREN MATTER, Get on with giving them what heterosexual families enjoy and do it NOW…..
The corporate lobbyists take them seriouslyAnd will, as long as they remain in power.
As my sig used to say“I support President Obama, but only to the extent that he supports me.”
And that is how it will remain, for him and for the Democratic Party as a whole.
Exactly. Let’s ask Mr. ‘gawd’s in the mix’ what he thinks.
Insult to injuryIt’s horrible enough that the Democrats won’t do jack for our community. Why do they have to keep insulting us by trying to convince us that they are?
I remember Bill Clinton’s stump speech for gay audiences in the ’92 campaign. ”I have a vision for America,” he told us repeatedly, “and you are a part of it.” Sadly, we didn’t realize that our part was under the bus. But from then till now, every single promise the Democrats have made to us has been a bald-faced lie. It’s incredible, but to judge from this video, they still haven’t realized that we’re on to their game. No votes, no cash, no nothing.
Nearly ninety years ago, H.L. Mencken nailed it:
That’s as true today as it was then. And it applies to Democrats every bit as much as to Republicans (if not more so).
We would be better off with Michael Steeleas DNC chairman. At least with Steele there would be some entertainment value.
I played the above clip. Maybe there is something wrong with my computer as it all came out as “Blah blah blah blah blah”.
Gee, Mr. Kaine, that’s mighty straight of you.
But we all play a partAfter all, when the bus gets stuck in the mud, it’s important to have something to throw under the wheels, for traction.
Stop being so ungrateful.
Rather appropriate given that……Rahm Emmanuel has done a bang up job in motivating the Republicans and deflating Democrats in his position as Chairman of the RNC. In fact, Rahm my be the most effective chairman the RNC has had since Lee Atwater.
Made me think of Charlie Brown’s teacher …but when I found this clip, there was an unexpected and very telling layer of metaphor. (first 50 secs or so)
Hollywood Reporter covers tonight’s LA fundraiserhttp://www.hollywoodreporter.c…
There’s a good article in today’s Hollywood Reporter. Front page. Names names. Covers complaints and hopes unfulfilled. Who will be there and who won’t. Where (was in public area of Beverly Hiltonl last year, but this year at John Wells’ house). Said the last years entry fee (donation) was $15,200 apiece last year!? GLBT issues are highlighted in the article particularly non-repeal of DADT and Obama’s “don’t support Prop 8 but don’t support ss marriage” either stance.
Check it out.
I didn’t even bother with viewing the Kaine vid. Like Paul in SF, I suspect there’s something wrong with my computer: blah blah blah…
don’t ask don’t give is bigger than DADT……those of us that have signed the pledge have promised not to donate until DADT and DOMA are repealed and ENDA is enacted…THEN, we’ll talk.
Go fuck yourself, Tim.
Gender inclusive ENDA now, or no more money and I stay home this November!
Me either….Yes, LA could be 'interesting' for him again.
POWER to the little people….That's what his game is all about. (and I mean small)
I didn’t bother to watch. And I don’t feel bad. I have no interest in what they say.
I am interested in what they do. Thus far, not much. The only message I want to hear is “ENDA is out of committee, the vote date is X, call your reps to tell them to vote for passage.”
Rinse and repeat for UAFA, DOMA repeal, a half-dozen other bills.
They’ve become like the boyfriend that keeps standing you up and always has a really good excuse. So what?
More, “We support you. We need your help?” It’s not a good time for me to hear that again. Wake me when the bills are close to passing and you need help with THAT.
Give to Kucinich!He suppports us-completely
He wanted to impeach Bush
He wanted to impeach Cheney
He wanted to end the wars
aNnd Rahm hates him and Gibbs just used him to mock all of us…..so I say, given that the DNC desparately wants him out of his seat, that we give extravagently to Congressman Kucinich and keep a moral, principled voice in Congress and at the same time demonstrate what we ARE willing to do with our money
It will make Obama angry
It will give Rahm apoplexy
And it will keep a friend of ours in Congress
