This one is mind-blowing, with a hat tip to Blender Sebastian.
I thought you might be interested in a blog posting by Christian Broadcasting Network war correspondent Chuck Holton, in which he tells Pat Robertson’s viewers why the military should keep DADT and why “homosexuals, by their own choices, disqualify themselves from military service” — and that “for the pentagon to be even considering allowing them to serve openly only shows an appalling lack of common sense on the part of our elected leaders and military brass”.
It’s no lie. Pat’s correspondent seems strangely preoccupied with a “gay subculture” that he seems to know a lot about that I’m unaware of. From his “Boots on the Ground” report…read and pick this shite apart.
1. The military is, by necessity, an environment where members are encouraged to be strong and healthy. The military strongly discourages smoking these days, because anything that hurts a soldier’s health ultimately makes him a liability to his unit. The homosexual lifestyle has been proven to lower a man’s life expectancy by as much as 20 years – why would we encourage this, then?
2. The Gay subculture is one of the most violent subcultures out there. Government studies show gays are 20 times more likely to be abusive or abused in their personal relationships. This reflects an inherent emotional instability that is not conducive to good order or discipline.
3. Giving Blood: US FDA regulations exclude “men who have had sex with another man even once since 1977″ from giving blood at blood banks. In combat, any one of your buddies might be called upon to donate their blood to keep you alive if you get wounded. Gays should never donate blood. End of story.
4. Suicide: The military is already having problems with troop suicides these days. Gays commit suicide, or attempt it, six times more often than heterosexuals. Is this the kind of American we want to entrust with a weapon?
Bottom line: Homosexuals, by their own choices, disqualify themselves from military service. For the pentagon to be even considering allowing them to serve openly only shows an appalling lack of common sense on the part of our elected leaders and military brass.

Let’s see:1) Lie, although we’re down to a 20-year shorter life expectancy from the 30 it used to be when they told me that I would definitely die at the age of 42 (T-4 months, I guess, since I turn 43 in December).
2) No idea, although one of my 3 longterm (over 2 years) relationships was definitely unhealthy–never got attacked or anything, and he was more messed up when he was drinking. That’s strictly anecdotal, though
3) ”We won’t allow you to donate blood, and then we’ll blame you for not being able to donate blood.” It’s a shade of the, “We won’t recognize your longterm relationships and then blame you for not having longterm relationships.” The ending is also a statement that is never supported. Why shouldn’t “gays” (I assume the correspondent is referring only to men) donate blood ever? Oh, yeah, we just state it and it should be taken without evidence. That didn’t fly over too well at the Prop 8 trial, either.
4) ”We’re going to mentally torment you and then act surprised that you commit suicide.” How very Christ-like.
Bottom line: Let’s claim an inherent trait is a choice, without evidence, and then punish people based on that claim.
If they’re going to keep making up sh*t……can they at least be entertaining?

Same arguments disqualify Blacks?Let’s see,
1. African-Americans have been documented as having shorter lifespans and suffering from much higher rates of diabetes and heart disease than the general population – at least some of that is due to their “lifestyle,” mainly diet and food choices.
2.African-Americans, particularly men, are far more likely to be the victims of violence, most often by other African-Aerican men.
3. Something like half of all HIV infections are African-Americans, so we certainly wouldn’t want any “dirty” blood (all racist puns intended) on the battlefield.
I guess African-Americans can only be in the military because of their lower suicide rates?

But of course, that’s where this is headed; there’s never been all that much of a difference between racist and homophobic arguments from the religious right, to be honest.

Hmmm….Gay people are violent, so we can’t let them in the military? Huh? Seems like we could just have a shorter basic training and then go straight into the Special Forces?
As far as life expectancy, how’s that one work? I mean, I know the bad science methodology that created the statistic and that it’s total BS, but so what?
The average American military person enters the service at 18, and very, very, very few stay past the 30 year full retirement point. So, also granting that you would separate anyone medically unable to do their job, that 20 years we supposedly lose would all come after separation or retirement. Meaning that having us drop dead young would save the taxpayers money on retirement pay and benefits. So LGBT servicemembers are a boon to society in these cash-strapped times!
Blood donation isn’t an issue. Servicemembers are tested regularly. Bzzt.
Suicide? Really? The reason gay KIDS commit suicide is because they are harassed for being gay or terrified of coming out. That’s more of a reason for letting LGBT servicemembers serve openly rather than excluding us – less fear and harassment.

You made many errors in this piece.
For one, you cited a 1997 study but omitted that in 2001 those same researchers complained about how their work was being distorted to push the false idea that gays have a short lifespan – http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/…
Furthermore, you cite a Netherlands study without giving more details. Dr. Sandfort, who conducted the study, said more work needs to be done and that he was not aware his conclusions was indicative of the gay community in other countries.
On your claim about “the gay subculture,” you take a 12 page study – published 10 years ago – which talked about violence against women and made a poor singular statement which encompassed all gays and lesbians. The way you do this is no different than racists using the study to make the same judgment about African-Americans.
I know you probably won’t approve this so I am making a copy of what I have written for posterity.

These statements from Mr. correspondent are the craziest I’ve heard in a long time.
I would say the military in and of itself, lowers the average ageof those participating in it. If one looks at the ages of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, it looks to me to be about 24 years old.
This jerks assumption is from Camenker’s junk science and has no validity.
