UPDATE: Adam Bink over at the NOM Tour Tracker, let me know that their interview with me is up. (I took a break from hopping between the NOMers and our peeps), surf over for its coverage.
I will have much more later, including some incredible blather from the mouth of Brian Brown, who was sweating like a pig out near the Capital Building, surrounded by, as JMG has said, TENS (as in about 45) supporters. We had about 200 on our side, as you’ll see in the slide show. It looked like the journalists and cops together outnumbered the NOMers.
The table with neat stacks of one-man, one-woman T-Shirts was left unmonitored a good bit of the time because there were customers buying the crap. Guess it’s back onto the bus to try hawking them in another city.
On the video he was into the whole victimhood thing, spouting how the people standing peacefully on the other side of the street were “shouting him down” and impinging on his free speech rights. You’ll also see video later of a local yokel bigot hysterical over same-sex marriage destroying society.

And as we’ve seen at all of the other NOM rallies, there are eerily similar seniors showing up with lawn chairs, mesmerized by the “action.”

I will have some real tales ones to share, including my work colleague Robyn’s reaction to seeing Brown for the first time, and our encounter with a fundie from The Ruth Institute, who made the mistake of thinking both of us were straight marriage savers when she starting pitching her BS. It was hilarious.

“Marrigee is a rite, not a right.” Okaaaaaaayyyy.
Oh hot DAMN!I was so hoping that you could get lots of photos and such- great job, Pam! Can’t wait to read the follow ups…
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, PAM!!!!!
Luv your sign, too!
Actions speaking louder than words
at 2005 Equality Forum.
Getting Ready for DC Protest this SundayIt’s the last stop on the NOM hate tour, and I’ve just signed up for the GetEqual counter-protest in Freedom Plaza. I have a great idea for a sign (where does one get that giant posterboard stuff, especially if I can’t shop at Target?!) and can’t wait to see the string of FAILed NOM rallies come to its pathetic conclusion.
I’ll bet y’all had some fun at your counter-protest Pam – I’m sure you had more fun than the NOM zombies did
See you in DC!You can find stuff to make posters with at Staples.
Yay Pam!!Wish I could have been there. Been stuck here in Winston Salem all day searching for news updates. Can’t wait for the pics and stories!
Go Pam!I love you, Pam. Your sign is awesome, and I can’t wait to hear about the Ruth Institute person mistaking you for being on her side!
Here’s some details. Here’s the facebook link for the event: http://www.facebook.com/#!/eve…
Also, as someone who’s more affiliated with GetEQUAL, I want to say that Equality Across America and Full Equality Now are also sponsors. Without them, this huge task would be very difficult to pull off. I’m sure I’m forgetting someone else, as well, so my apologies in advance. :)
Pics
I took a wide view of NOM’s protest. At the height of the protest I counted around 40-something ppl on their side.
I counted around 200 people on our side. I think I was up to about 194 when I got to Pam and she pointed out a few people I had missed which brought us up to 200 or just over.
I was happy to see the Equality NC presence, with their executive director there no less. Someone from the NC Democratic Party was their too. She had a clipboard to sign up for more info, and she chatted about some local races, and of course Elaine Marshall for Senate (an equality supporter on UAFA, DOMA repeal, ENDA, DADT repeal)
My old sign, it has suffered through heavy rain, heat, wind, 3 or 4 protests and rallies, a candle light vigil, and now this. Glad its held up so well. Glad I got it lamented too. That last picture I stole from Pam’s photobucket. I saw I was in the background of several shots, but this one had my husband with me, so I liked it.
Pam, please help with News Channel 14The local News Channel 14 coverage here in Raleigh is using the term “homosexual marriage” when reporting this issue. They even went as far as to use the term “homosexuals” instead of LGBT or “gays & lesbians” when not including the term marriage.
I’ve written them an email asking them to please stop as it is offensive. I suggested they check whatever “style guide” they use for professional reporting where they will find that the acceptable terminology for discussing this issue is either “marriage equality” or “same sex marriage”.
I also pointed out to them that the anti equality proponents continue to use the term “homosexual” because it belittles members of the LGBT community by reducing them to nothing more than sexual beings.
Pam, I’m asking you to contact them as well. I’m sure you could express yourself on this issue much better than I was able to. And, if they hear from more than just me, it may have a greater impact.
They tend to run the same “features” over and over again and I’m hoping to convince them to change their terminology on this reporting before it runs on air again.
Counts
And that even counts the folks they brought along (not really “supporters”), not to mention that many of the ones standing over there were likely just lunchtime people passing through the Capitol grounds who would stop to listen to whatever group might be speaking there on a given day. Hardly “supporters”.
Meanwhile, we had all the cars driving past (some several times) and honking and waving.
NO customers
I think you mean “there were NO customers buying the crap!” Tee hee!
Good griefDoes their small gathering even count as a rally? Lol. Looking forward to Washington!

Funny the folks so adamant for one man one womanAre so repulsive and ugly….on their BEST day couldn’t attract EITHER one man or one woman.
We will be at the DC counter protest too!!
Thanks TimTim, thanks for the heads-up; I did exactly as you mention and got a response from Channel 14 acknowledging that they should not use the word “homosexual” in such a context and that they will note it for the future. Let’s see if they do.
I too sent in a messageb/c of this heads up
