“Uncle Pat” pulls out his freshly laundered and pressed Klan sheet and puts it on to write his latest column stoking white fear. Jaw-dropping stuff at Clown Hall.
For though the black community remains solidly behind Obama and the white majority is shrinking toward minority status by 2042 or 2050, depending on which Census survey one uses, whites in America still outnumber blacks five to one. And if forced constantly to come down on one side or the other of a racial divide, most folks will wind up with their own.
In past elections, Democrats have raised race — allegations that black churches were being torched in the South, that George W. Bush’s opposition to a hate crimes bill meant he was coldly indifferent to the dragging death of a handicapped black man — to solidify and energize the minority vote. And, today, that vote remains solid behind Obama.
Where the erosion is taking place is in white America, among working- and middle-class folks who voted for Hillary Clinton in the primaries but took a chance with Obama in the fall. Now, every time some new incident erupts, these folks are being tarred.
…As the National Journal’s Ron Brownstein has been reporting, white America is increasingly alienated and distrustful of all our major economic and political power centers — the banks, big corporations, the government.
And, for the first time in our lifetimes, outside the South, white racial consciousness has visibly begun to rise.
This sounds like one of those indirect calls for white uprising, where Uncle Pat can claim plausible deniability by saying he only refers to the white anger out there, but he needs to be called on this bullsh*te.

“White racial consciousness”sounds like the nicest way you could describe a Teabagger. As in, very conscious of the fact that they are white and Obama is black. Uyy. Town Hall, by the way, is one of the looniest websites I’ve ever seen.
The double standard is so stark. Buchanan – unapologetic white racist has a job as a commentator.African American female low-level government employee trying to grapple with the realities of race in the U.S. – kicked to the curb.

I just don’t get it….I am a white guy, but I have no concept of myself as a “White American”. exactly what culture am I supposed to have in common with the likes of Pat?
it is my understanding that there is no single unifying Latin American culture, although there is common ground among Latinos. I believe that there is no single unifying African American culture, although there is a lot of shared tradition and experience among African Americans.
but White culture? I am pretty sure that I don’t eat the same foods at Pat, celebrate the same history or venerate the same historical/cultural heroes as Pat. I know damn well that I don’t worship the same God/dess that Pat claims talks to him directly. I wish that Pat would educate me as to our shared heritage and culture.
on second thought….I wish that Pat would keep his trap shut and his fingers off the keyboard for the rest of his existance on this planet.

Gay political strategist Steve Hildebrand still spends so much time with his head up Obama’s ass he probably has his mail delivered there. But he had the courage to speak the truth about the most immediate reason why we lost marriage equality in California and Maine…by not “naming” bigots as bigots.
“White” America?I don’t think white people (of which I am one) should have any claim of ownership of America. After all, it is all land that was stolen from the natives. If Pat wants to really show a true moral high ground here, I think he should come out in favor of all white people returning to Europe “where they belong.”

So is black America — does he think that people of color have not been touched by the mortgage meltdown, the faltering economy, the offshoring of American jobs, illegal and unnecessary occupation of two foreign countries that syphon trillions of dollars away from vitally necessary social programs?

Umm… some of the worst incidents of racism occured in places like Los Angeles and Chicago. An what about the extreme racism now mandated by law in Arizona, and in municipalites around the country as they try to immitatate that Arizona law?
Buchanan has always been an extremist: he led the Republican “revolution” in the 80s and drove conservative stalwarts like Barry Goldwater out of the Republican Party for not being conservative enough. He, more than anyone, was responsible for yanking the country to the far right. He is ignorant and horribly out of touch.
There are no malidictions I can make that express how much I loathe that man.

And Black America isn’t? Black Americans as a group are aligned with and trustful of banks, big corporations, and the government? And, I’ll add, the cops?
If – if – there is anything to what Robertson is reacting to, it is that more and more white people are waking up to the fact that those big groups don’t particularly give a damn about them as individuals. Something that minority groups have known (as groups) for quite a while now. Maybe white people are shouting about it more right because they think it’s new.
I don’t hear him explicitly claiming that minorities are doing particularly well with those big impersonal power centers, but the implication is that if they are, it is at the expense of white people.
But really, especially with the “white people will be the minority by 2050″ thing it sure sounds as though he’s saying that white people are starting to feel that they are being treated the way black people should be treated (badly) and are pissed and scared.
Never seems to occur to these people that maybe the solution is to just treat everybody well in the first place.
How do you know which loser…at the KKK rally is Buchanan? Just look for the clown shoes poking out from under the robes. This guy is a tea-totalitarian, the most repulsive species of the tea-bagger genus. He’s been doing it for years, and now his congregation is finally coming out of the Klan Kloset.

This has been Buchanan’s personal crusade for as long as I can remember.I’m sure we all remember his tirade last year about how white people–and only white people–built America. Though no one in the media has ever had the guts to say it, not even Rachel Maddow (though she has been tougher on him than any of her colleagues) he is an unreconstructed bigot. If I hear one more of his colleagues babble about what a really nice guy he is, my head will erupt.

inserts the word “white” before “America” and turns the ever-growing disenchantment with his beloved status-quo power structure into a wholly imaginary race war. Pat Buchanan is a demagogue of the vilest kind. Why there hasn’t been a grassroots movement to pressure MSNBC to fire his damn sorry ass is beyond me.
