Dana Rudolph over at Mombian uncovered a gem of PR homophobia over at CBS. In a press release about a talk show about “topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of mothers” that actress and lesbian mom Sara Gilbert is participating in this fall, her family is closeted!
That’s right, all of her co-hosts — Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, and Marissa Jaret Winokur — have descriptions about partners/spouses and family members in the PR, but look at what they say about Gilbert:
Julie Chen . . . lives in New York and Los Angeles with her husband, Leslie Moonves, with whom she has a son and 3 stepchildren.Holly Robinson Peete . . . and her husband of 15 years are the proud parents of four children. They currently reside in Los Angeles.
Sharon Osbourne . . . lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Ozzy Osbourne. They have three children.
Leah Remini . . . lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Angelo Pagan, and daughter and three stepsons.
Marissa Jaret Winokur . . . and her husband, comedy writer Judah Miller, reside in Los Angles [sic] with their son Zev.
Sara Gilbert . . . lives in Los Angeles with her family.
In a separate entry on the CBS News site her family is mentioned, as opposed to the release above, which is the one sent out widely to media across the country. Dana muses about the discrepancy.
CBS News’ Web site just ran a post about the show, and said, “Gilbert is a lesbian mom, raising two children with partner Allison Adler.”I still think it’s worrisome that the main press release about the show hid the fact that Gilbert has a same-sex partner. This might reflect some interdepartmental differences in approach at CBS, perhaps-CBS Entertainment, which ran the press release, vs. CBS News? Just a guess.

Outed the wrong star, methinks
This isn’t a surprise…Hollywood is one of the most homophobic places in the world. They ‘tolerate’ us. That’s it.
In the interest of fact-checking…Sometimes these “blips” are provided by the hosts themselves. So it might be that Sara provide that blip in the interest of protecting her family privacy.
Doesn’t seem likely, but it probably should be checked before assuming that CBS did the editing.
And if CBS did consolidate the full fledged release to that homophobic reference… disgusting, simply disgusting…
Hopefully not…What? Gilbert is going to be on a show that CBS promotes “a talk show about “topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of mothers”. How in the heck would she expect or want to “protect hr family privacy” when the show include “contemporary issues” ie. gay and lesbian families?
I’m going with CBS closeting Gilbert and her family. This is all getting tiresome, the invisibility stuff.
No, it’s Sarahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S…

major yummies in some cases, and then we toss in scientology for fun!
It could still use some fixing:Julie Chen, heterosexual, . . . lives in New York and Los Angeles with her straight husband, Leslie Moonves, with whom she has a son and 3 stepchildren.
Holly Robinson Peete, straight, . . . and her heterosexual husband of 15 years are the proud heterosexual parents of four children. They currently reside in Los Angeles.
Sharon Osbourne, non-gay, . . . lives in Los Angeles with her straight husband, Ozzy Osbourne. They have three children.
Leah Remini, heterosexual, . . . lives in Los Angeles with her heterosexual husband, Angelo Pagan, and daughter and three stepsons.
Marissa Jaret Winokur, straight, . . . and her non-gay husband, comedy writer Judah Miller, reside in Los Angles [sic] with their son Zev.
Sara Gilbert . . . lives in Los Angeles with her family.
There: Now, emphasizing that “Gilbert is a lesbian mom …” fits.
meh, they shoulda just gone with…“Sara Gilbert lives in Los Angles with her wife Allison and their two children.”
Oh wait, they’re not married… they should come here to CT and get married then that blurb would be right.. sigh
Sara Gilbert is the Executive Producer for that showWouldn’t she have had some input on the press release?
What I’m *really* curious about….Is this new show going to be broadcast in high definition? With Julie Chen as a co-host, I doubt it.
With the networks? No. Take for instance, it was the WB/Studios USA that forced Rob Tapert to get rid of the so-called lesbian subtext between Xena and Gabrielle on Xena. I do think Mr. Tapert had something to do with that, but according to him, it was the network that forced him to do it. So, no-executive producers have SOME clout, but not much compared to the entity actually broadcasting the show, in this case CBS.
Besides, it sounds like The View for mothers.
I’m aware of thatThe post originally said Melissa, I was pointing it out, and it was corrected.
ah, sorry.My bad.
Who’s surprised by anything CBS does anymore? They closeted the Otalia storyline on “Guiding Light.” Why not closet Sara Gilbert?
I wish Melissa were part of our family…She’s a hottie.
