Servicemembers United isn’t having any of it with this survey. It’s calling it a waste of tax payer dollars. SU has set up SurveyRefund.org.
Sign the PetitionThe Department of Defense just paid the research firm Westat the outrageous sum of $4.4 million to design and administer an email-based survey about the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law. While its development was shrouded in secrecy for weeks, leaked copies of the final version recently began circulating. To everyone’s surprise, the survey, which went out to 400,000 service members, turned out to be laced with bias, inaccuracies, and derogatory assumptions and insinuations about gay and lesbian Americans. Demand that Westat and the Pentagon repay the American Taxpayer for this outrageous waste of $4.4 million!
Refund our $4.4 million for that biased survey!

While they’re at it,they ought to demand that every dollar that was given to the Obama campaign by American citizens wanting Hope and Change be refunded. But of course we know it won’t happen. As with clergymen, with politicians it’s all give-and-take: we give and they take.
So, doing the math, that’s somewhere in the range of 3¢ per taxpayer, give or take a cent? Even symbolically, that’s a very small percent of the military budget. May I humbly suggest demanding they increase their diversity training (or whatever positive area) budget by $4.4 million instead?
Wait, doesn’t the US military exist to waste money?I mean, $40,000 hammers, $380,000 toilet seats, a couple million for bomber planes that haven’t been needed since the Korean conflict, hundreds of millions for a “missile defense shield” that has always been more science fiction than Star Wars…. What’t the problem here?
For all the hype That proceded this survey, after I read it I keep asking the question. Why are they so concerned about the survey or the results? Its a non-survey that is so watered down that its near useless.
It was supposed to ask Gay and Lesbian servicemembers questions but it doesn’t.
It does ask servicemembers to possibly out Gay and Lesbian service members.
Lets face it, in a command of 300 people and 20 answer that they work with someone who’s Gay. And those 20 belong to one squad or shop of 22 people and out of those 22 people 2 answer that they are not married you have a 50% chance of figuring out who is Gay.
And no, it is NOT anonymous, using your CAAC card stamps you ID all over the survey. They will be able to use it to back track people thru negitive space.
pocket change we can believe inBrought to you by OWH. It means what it sounds like.
sometimes there are true Pentagon wastes of moneyTake, e.g., the M247 Sgt. York AA system.

I guess I’ll be the first to say…signed the petition!
Believe it or not, an agency of the Department of Defense ALREADY teaches equal opportunity for gays….
…that is, for gays among the 700,000 CIVILIANS who work for the Department of Defense.
The Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute is the mother ship of the DOD’s huge EO program. They can’t apply their training to the military, of course, but federal policy protects civilian employees of the DOD as well as other government agencies, so sexual orientation is included in their training of managers there along with race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and political affiliation.
Equally ironic is that they have developed such a great reputation that other countries send people from their militaries to train at DEOMI’s campus at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida…including countries that DON’T ban gay servicemembers such as Great Britain, Canada, and South Africa. I think we can all imagine what their first question on the first day of class is.
And, assuming the BEST intentions of the survey, it’s a great question why they didn’t use their own on-staff human resources experts at DEOMI rather farming it out at MUCH greater cost to Westat which has been milking the DOD of millions of taxpayer dollars for at least 25 years.
OBVIOUS ANSWERS: somebody knows somebody at/is related to someone at/gets kickbacks from Westat and it’s always easier to get mercenaries to kill, Truth included, than one’s own troops.
PetitionMe 2.
Hopefully, this angle will be one that helps FINALLY engage nongay Americans….
…and MSM more in the issue. Maybe, just MAYBE, this will be the proverbial last straw that breaks the back of Gates’ naked [to those really paying attention] obstructionist games.
Me three.I want my money back!
The principal function of the US government is channeling money into corporations. The principal mechanism by which they do it is the Defense Department budget. That’s why we’re always at war with somebody-or-other; and that’s why the government expends so much time and energy fabricating excuses for those wars.
“We are at war with Eurasia…… because Lockheed-Martin and Haliburton require that we always be at war with Eurasia.”
Mr. Orwell, you almost nailed it.
