After the debacle in Hawaii, folks were waiting for the video of it. Joe Jervis of JMG uploaded it to Vimeo for your gut-wrenching, throw-your-shoe-at-the-monitor kind of deal:
Bigotry Wins: Hawaii Gov. Lingle Vetoes Civil Unions from Joe Jervis on Vimeo.
Feel free to post updates or news about what’s happening as a result of Lingle’s bigotry.

I don’t like flyingmuch. I have been to HI twice. But no more.
I’m going to quote Miss Julia from Designing WomenGovernor Lingle did her best to put her baloney in a pretty little package – it wasn’t her religious beliefs, honest! It wasn’t her political ambitions, honest! It’s because the people should decide, honest! And so, I think Julia Sugarbaker said it best…
“You know…growing up in the rural part of Georgia, I’ve been around compost all my life. I’ve seen it loaded onto wagons and tilled and hoed and spread across fields far and wide, but until today – I must say – I’ve never seen it tied up and gift wrapped in quite so neat and tidy and pretty a package. Congratulations. You’re a very clever girl. But it’s still compost. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll leave you to dig your way out.”
BlechShe is a wretched, disgusting woman. I’m sorry, law aren’t supposed to be passed a small group of elected individuals??? If the collective wisdom of the people aren’t happy with a law, they have the right to vote out their representative and vote in someone who will repeal a law they find unfair. Why is it that when we are talking about people’s lives, that it is okay for everyone to chime in??
Catholics not following the governor’s request eitherCatholic Culture magazine is celebrating as is the Hawaii Catholic Conference:
When are we FINALLY going to exact a price from the Churches who oppress us?
And from Bishop Silva:
FRC “not reacting:”
Maybe it’s time for hunger strikesRight on the lawns of those who so casually command others to oppress us.
More Bishop Silva: “Polygamy”
Bonfires on the lawnsBarricades in their driveways
Looking like the aggressorIs just something they’d eat up to say that it’s really the victims who are oppressing someone.
I think that showing clearly that they’re making people suffer, all these excuses aside, wouldn’t play so well with a lot of their own flock, though.
They remind me of myself when I’m cooking spaghetti. Getting noodles out of the pot to see if they will stick.
Ronan, it isn’t workingWe need to exact a price in terms of nuisance and disruption for their oppression of us. When they are tired of paying that price, we will win
hunger strikes? No, something else is needed. Like protesting on Sundays. Doing kiss-ins as they and their children come out of the church.
They don’t want their children to learn about “the gay”? Too bad.
(Of course, laws pertaining to protests should be complied with.)
What’ll cost themthe most is not ‘proving there’s a reason to freak out,’ but rather to go before their ‘flock’ and show that the ‘moral leadership’ of the clergy is nothing but whitewaashed hate and talking nice around hurting people while denying that’s what they’re doing.
Acting ‘shocking’ has its place, but isn’t really hitting the preachers where it costs them.
Well…I dunno, these guys thrive on acting like people they hurt are really ‘attacking’ them, but they don’t have a lot of credibility on ‘sexual morality’ these days: that’s part of why they want to stoke hate of gay people, cause it’s someone else to blame for their crimes than themselves.
I think some peaceful vigils that say on no uncertain terms that they are hurting people, most especially non-Catholics that they have no say over, could put them on the defensive.
And Catholics with gay family members should refuse making contributions to or through churches that hurt them and their families.
They can abstract it all they want, but they are using the government to hurt people who have done them no harm. I say that clear demonstrations of that are their worst nightmare. It’s hard to theologize around that, even for them, when it’s before their faces.
good luckreaching their congregants. just two days ago, Pam posted the video clip from the documentary on Christianists and evolution. if you think showing them how it hurts us is going to help us, please do. i don’t see it happening. but i do sincerely wish you good luck.
PS I also don’t see how hunger strikes would do that. especially for those of us who need to go to work or school…
That sums it up perfectly. Disgusting.
Why would I listen……to a self-hating dyke rationalize her gay-bashing?
I’ll miss visiting Hawaii.
