A Facebook buddy of mine brought this video to my attention.
The video is homophobia under the guise of “being scientific” in reasoning why gays and lesbians are not deserving of marriage. To summarize, it says gays and lesbians are not worthy to be allowed to legally married because we are too concentrated on promiscuity and are therefore consistently disease-afflicted.
Watch if you want but here are the major problems with it:
The statistics are cited in it are irrelevant because none of the gays mentioned are married.
Also, many of the statistics are highly outdated, some coming from the 1970s. The most recent statistic seems to come from 2001.
And a major problem with this video: much of the research is taken from statistics about gay men afflicted with AIDS/HIV. This means that a huge segment of gays (those who don't AIDS) and lesbian are omitted.
The video is cherry picking at its worse and is the equivalent of racists using FBI crime statistics to denigrate African-Americans.
Now some have reported this video but I say let's not just do that just yet. The underhanded use of statistics is a tactic employed by a myriad of religious right groups and spokespeople.
Instead of allowing our anger or need to ridicule ignorance to rule, let's study and remember.
Chinese general Sun Tzu said in his book, The Art of War:
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
And if anyone thinks that the cause for lgbt equality isn't a war, they need to think again.

Meh, bad argument, badly executed and badly received. And it comes to pass… that like I have harped on, the same sex marriage debate and anti-GLBT rights movement is raising its ugly head for what it really is… the start of a movement to erode the civil rights for all minorities.
Yes, mentioning interracial marriage and Loving vs. Virginia to me speaks towards their goals of abolishing all civil rights for minorities. This shouts ‘veiled racism’ to me.
You don’t have to mention that legal battle at all when you’re talking to same sex marriage. If anything it proves that the institution of marriage CAN change to include NEW meanings.
Attacking divorce? Nonsensical. If anything, same sex marriage is actually stronger than traditional marriage right now. How many SSM couples are struggling to obtain a divorce and are being denied by their states ignorance?
And what, pray tell does marriage and divorce have to do with CDC health statistics from the 70′s?
It’s not comparing apples to oranges, its comparing apples to left handed penguins who belong to the Wig party and saying that it causes a global shortage of pastel colored tartans used by golf pro caddies on Tuesdays.
If that was someone’s class assignment I’d give them a solid F+. (Hey, they had a clean visual presentation with good use of ‘fade’. Over used yeah…Hey it’s an F for a reason.)
Since Lesbians have the lowest rate of STD’sI assume that these people will support our getting married, but will make straight people wait til they clean up their act?
For what it’s worth,flagged it.
Lies and more lies. I remember that they targeted Haitian men in regards to HIV/AIDS in the early ’80s only to be proven wrong again. More heteros are promiscuous than GLBT. Look at the number children born out of wedlock. Look at the number of STDs that have been icreasing. You don’t here much about it in mainstream media but it’s out there.

I agree – they’ve lumped everyone together. Now, I have nothing whatsoever against responsible consensual promiscuity. Can be lots of fun.
But when people pull out these kinds of “arguments” I always ask if they are willing to base all straight marriage rights, or all straight people’s civil rights on the behavior of the straight people on vacation at Spring Break, or on the streets at Mardi Gras, or the behavior history of the average prison population – public drunkenness, promiscuity, violence. Does that mean all straight people behave that way, and that all those who ever do are that way all the time?
Then why base all the arguments for gay rights on the (historical) behavior of a few? Sure, maybe someone who hung out only in gay bathhouses in San Francisco in 1972 might not have been a great parent – but the people who want to get married, on average, sure don’t behave that way, any more that your average straight folks do.
Ditto!flagged it! It looks like it has already been taken down once since it is title “the revised version” just under the video. Why not do it again.
