During yesterday’s LGBT Leadership Town Hall (a fantastic, near-transcript here), many listeners found out that the largest group dedicated to the DADT repeal fight, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, was not invited to a critical strategy meeting in February after it had challenged the President’s foot-dragging by holding a protest rally and written very public criticism of handling of repeal. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Jim “The Fixer” Messina, whose been assigned to deal with LGBT matters, has been the gatekeeper of access.
So it was beyond belief and good fortune today, as I visited the offices of SLDN and went lunch with Communications Director Trevor Thomas and Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis to discuss about the organization’s efforts to make repeal actually happen in 2010, that I was privy to an impromptu strategy session with the man himself, Jim Messina. And that, in a nutshell, is what this administration thinks of us.
This is why we need GetEqualRobin wouldn’t have said “oh, hey, good to see you.” She would have proudly made a scene right there on the sidewalk, asking him (rather loudly) why the Obama administration has been backtracking on DADT repeal for months. Being polite sure as heck hasn’t gotten us anywhere.
meanwhile, dateline: fantasy island(TPM) The AFA thinks we’re running the military — along with Muslim fundamentalists.

The Onion couldn’t make this up.
Oh EXCELLENT… yep there is the proof… HRC sold us out AGAIN!
Go get’em GETEQUAL….and please join in anyone who truly does want DADT repealed, and full CIVIL RIGHTS for ALL.
Screw Em All. Starting on Pennsylvania Av.Now tell me again why I’m so much better off with a Democratic majority in the Congress and a Democratic President?
Is it because the Congress will do something about DADT, ENDA, or DOMA? Is it because the President’s DOJ will refuse to defend DOMA and DADT, or at least will refuse to use insulting Republican memes like incest and pedophilia and two wars? Is it because they will include benefits to me and my family in their health reform (sic) law?
Tell me again why I should vote Democratic. Or vote at all.
Screw ‘em all.
Well, there is that little thing we call the Supreme Court…
Im with yaIm not giving money, I’m not giving my time, I’m not canvassing, stuffing envelopes, phone banking, or anything else until this situation is a reality: DADT and DOMA repealed, ENDA enacted. Im done here. Next stop Lisbon.
But, but see Here is the INSIDE SCOOP….http://tinyurl.com/34shkoxGay Activitst v The Whitehouse The Inside Story.Well, do you believe it?
…got link from AnnaMarie Cox tweet.
I lost my ear trumpet.I couldn’t hear. What did Mr. Messina say?
hilariousdid he have to take a shower after brushing shoulders with the uppity gays?
I believe it was “alright, take care”AKA, The “brush off”.
Even I Even I could hear the subtext. Thanks. :)
That damage control piece made me barfGee, for an “inside story” he sure missed a lot of relevant fact, like SLDN’s being locked out of the talks.
It’s almost as though it’s propaganda, not actual real reporting.

Consider the content; consider the source.
FIRST THE CONTENT:
The Atlantic’s incurable ObamaRahmbot, Marc Ambinder, seems to assert that just because one theorizes there is a conspiracy to stall/kill repeal in the White House that there can’t be one. Huh?
How is a coordinated plan by members of the administration [Obama, Messina, Gates] to work against [stall, slow walk, obstruct] something gays very much want [repeal] different from “a conspiracy in the White House against gays” except to those fools who still naively believe that Gates presented his stall-a-repeal-vote plan to Congress without the knowledge and permission of his boss, the President.
As for whether Messina and/or Obama are personally “homophobic.” WHO THE F CARES??? As Forrest Gump might say, “Homophobic is as homophobic DOES.”
Let’s contrast Ambinder’s assertion that Messina’s “not while two wars are going on” excuse for stalling is just echoing the President’s official position with what Obama said at the HRC dinner last October, echoing what he’d often said during the election campaign:
ADD TO THAT WHAT HE TOLD LGBTS at the White House last June:
TEN MONTHS LATER, it’s obvious Obama got his definition of “urgency” from the same unique dictionary that he got definitions of “equality” and “imperative” [as in "Equality is a moral imperative."], “compromise” and “equal” [as in "I will never compromise on my commitment to equal rights for all LGBT Americans." and civil unions vs. marriage], “leadership” [as in "Join with me, and I will provide that leadership."], “fierce,” “support,” “end,” and “fight.” I’d guess who gave that dictionary to him but I wouldn’t want to be accused of being a conspiracy theorist.
Most have forgotten the amazing irony [now] in something Pentagon shill Geoff Morell added last May when he was telling the truth about nothing being seriously started yet toward repeal [before he was forced to correct himself, read: LIE two days later and say they had started]:
Ah, we wonder what Geoffy is thinking now?
AS FOR CONSIDERING THE SOURCE:
What’s mindboggling is that he’s an equal opportunity apologist. Here’s brilliant gay civil rights attorney, author, & Salon columnist Glenn Greenwald last August on one of Ambinder’s previous follies, in this case after the revelation, as many suspected, that the Bush Reich had, indeed, used phony terror alerts to manipulate the public. Ambinder had accused those who’d made such charges of being driven by “gut hatred” of Bush. Greenwald could just as easily be writing about Ambinder’s defense today of Obama, Inc./Messina:
“The reason journalists such as Ambinder saw no such evidence wasn’t because it didn’t exist. It existed in abundance; you had to suffer from some form of moral, intellectual or emotional blindness not to see it. It’s because they didn’t want to see it, because — as Ambinder said — they trusted the Bush administration as good and decent people who might err but would never do anything truly dishonest. It’s because only loser Leftist ideologues distrusted Bush officials and the overriding goal of establishment journalists is to prove that they are not like them, that they’re much more serious and responsible and thus would never attribute bad motives to government leaders such as those who ran the Bush administration. [Ambinder believes] that journalists can and should vest the pronouncements of political leaders with faith and trust rather than skepticism.”
So Ambinder’s a reckless apologist for Bush AND Obama?????? Does somebody have a “Daddy complex”?
White House ‘Fixer’ Jim MessinaHours after Max Baucus slipped out the back door of Room 216 in the Hart Senate Office Building — in the middle of his committee’s health-care deliberations on Sept. 25 — he pulled up a seat at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas next to Jim Messina, the White House’s political fixer for the reform effort.

Maybe I should send Obama a letter –A nice, big dictionary with a note suggesting that he look up the words “fierce” and “advocate”.
Good Lord, Michaelthose essays…:)
