Thank god this man was caught. What a vile, hateful crime. Another trans “erasure.”
A 29-year-old Manhattan man who met a transgender Queens woman in an online chat room was tracked down in Las Vegas and charged with her killing.According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Rasheen Everett of Manhattan allegedly strangled the victim in her Glendale apartment and then pouring bleach all over the victim’s body.
Everett is charged him with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
District Attorney Brown said that, according to the criminal charges, Everett went the apartment of the victim, Amanda Gonzalez Andujar, 29, in Glendale, Queens, at 8:50 a.m., on March 27.
Witnesses heard screams and banging that were consistent with a struggle. Cell phone activity is how Everett was caught in Vegas; cell records also tied him to Andujar.

Wait for it…..…..3……2……1……the “trans-panic” defense…….or even the “gay-panic” defense. It’s worked nearly every time.
Pray For JusticeGlad the waste of DNA was caught. Now lets pray that Amanda gets justice.
TypicalNice of good ol’ NJ to be a little lurid when he used the word “transsexual”…
As to SD’d speculation regarding the “trans-panic” defense, I highly doubt it’ll be even allowed, SD — this is NYC, after all! There’s a huge trans community there, and you can bet all eyes will be on this trial.
How ironic in that the commercial shown before the clip was a “Virginia is for lovers” ad!
Good thing we have a federal hate crimes lawBecause New York State doesn’t include gender identity/expression in it’s nondiscrimination and hate crimes statutes. Killing Ms Gonzalez Andujar is not a hate crime under New York State law.
When I called Sen. Duane’s office some weeks ago I was told that the budget mess is keeping GENDA (Gender Expression Non Discrimination Act) on the back burner. Most likely, once the budget is settled some other “more important” issue will appear, just as it has since 2002 when gender variant people were shoved under the bus while GLB people got protections. In addition to nondiscrimination, GENDA would add trans people to the protection of New York’s hate crime law.
It’s possible this will be considered a hate crime under New York City law, but that’s cold comfort for all of the trans people who live in the rest of the state who are still waiting, still without, basic civil rights protections.
I hope you are right!I honestly do hope you are right. I’m not going to hold my breath if you don’t mind.
